Spike hangs out with the Mane Six too much, and yeah even though he does hang out with Big Mac and Discord now, it's pretty much a one-time thing in the show perhaps, and with Thorax living so far away, and the writers aren't doing anything with his relationship with Shining Armor (which is stupid, they should've been close), Spike needs himself someone he can call his "best friend", but not like his relationship with Twilight, a more equal, more brotherly relationship.

If Scorpan has a season arc on the show, him and Spike should definitely be close! What do you think? Should he have a brotherly figure, like as close as Starlight and Trixie are, or Snips and Snails?

After he made his first appearance, I was hoping Thorax could have been this but alas, seems it was not meant to be. Thanks to Dungeons and Discord though, Big Mac could be this sort of thing for Spike, if they expand on it more. Sure, they meet up for one night of the week, but they could branch out and hangout together. Probably not my preferred character for that role though. Honestly not sure who would be best for this.

I don't see that kinda activity happening for Spike.
That would lead to him growing up, which has proven bad in the past.
That and I'm fairly certain the writers would prefer to keep him as obsequious as possible.
Whatever reason they have for this, I can't imagine, but whatever, 'all heil hasbro' and all that noise.

Of course it would lead him growing up! That's the point! He needs to grow up sooner or later, especially if the CMCs are allowed to! It was a good start for him in season 6, so I see it happening soon! They shouldn't waste his character, especially if he's considered a 'main character'. If they do, it'll ruin MLP for me.

Pretty sure Big Mac can fill that role, or Shining Armor, though I'd still prefer him to interact with the mane 6. You say he hangs out with the mane 6 too much, but we only ever see any real interaction with Twilight and Rarity, too often in fact

Yeah that's true, he should interact with other members of the Mane Six too, and Starlight for sure, but I just mean he hangs with them like, the Mane Six do the work, and he's just there to tag along and help out when he gets the chance. I just thought he could use himself a guy friend that fits into the story real well.

I do agree that Spike and Big Mac do get along alot! But does that happen on screen too often? ;)

Hard telling whether Spike getting a big brother figure would work for the show; he's...well, he's a he, and the show's target demographic is 6-to-12-year-old girls, right?  I'm not sure having a relatable boy character is what the show is aiming for.

That's not to say it wouldn't be enjoyable to watch, or that good plots and character development could come out if it, or anything like that---I'm just questioning whether it aligns with the writers' overall goals.

My guess is that Big Mac does fill this role, they just aren't together too much on screen. I picture them getting together at least once a week to talk about hoofball, trade hoofball cards, argue hoofball stats, roleplay, and maybe bake together.

Far as I'm aware he isn't considered a 'main' character because he's not a pony.

But like I said, it proved bad in the past when he 'grew up'.

That's why I was pointing out that developing him as a character isn't a priority for the writers.

It's not about weather it makes the show better/worse for you, it's about selling toys :V

If you look it up though, he is considered a "main character" actually. I know opinions are different throughout the fanbase and developers, but there is proof that alot of the main crew members consider him a main character, not a Mane Six, but a main character. You're right about one thing, brah, MLP is about selling toys! However, there is the Guardians of Harmony franchise that shown the "grown up" Spike, and yes his first time growing up was a bit of a disaster, but there is of course growing up mentally! He has improved so much since season 6 was aired, he's no longer that comedic doormat character with no destiny. He now actually has a destiny, and he's still has that comedic role in the episodes he's just supporting, but he's doing better in his own episodes, and it can be used to sell toys, including his new brotherly figure that could happen! Or maybe his episodes with Ember in the Dragon Lands, or with Thorax.

I really don't care if you don't like Spike, cause that ain't my problem. But he's on the show for a reason, and I know he's receiving his fair share of character development, even if some of you can't see it. He has had good episodes even before season 6, Gauntlet of Fire wasn't his first. He's always there for Twilight, that's his number one priority! But he does have his own life, and I just want to see him have the same potential as every other character, no more, no less. No godlike hero, and no punching bag. Just right in the middle just between the Mane Six and along side the CMCs! Perfect!

Also tl;dr right? XD

Eh, I think you're making a lot of assumptions, just as I did :P
I don't dislike Spike, he's just one more character to me, lol

But saying that he needs to be written one way or another isn't something I think one shouldn't be decided so readily.
Nor with such overbearing passion ^^;

I'm sorry, brah. I just can relate so much to him, so he really means alot to me. I'm sure we got that one character in MLP that really means alot to us, like Derpy for example, or Luna. Spike is mine, and I don't want him to be better than anyone. I just like to see him have potential, have a story arc that has him have a quest to achieve something (besides his crush on Rarity, in all honesty I'd like to see a mutual understanding between them and end the crush, but that's just my opinion; they could get engaged for all I know :P ). Twilight's had her princess arc, the CMCs had her cutie marks, Rainbow with the Wonderbolts, Rarity with her stores, Fluttershy with being a braver pony, and I dunno much about Pinkie and AJ, maybe the writers will think of something for them, I dunno. Spike is a unique character, different from everyone else, cause he's a dragon adopted by ponies, and it would a shame for products and ratings if they didn't have something for him! ;) But whatever happens on the show happens, I don't work for them, I'll respect whatever decisions they make cause it ain't my show, I already got my own. But one can hope!

I want him to grow up mentally not physically , cuz his teenager size is ugly :}. Shinning Armor can be the best candidate, he is Twilight's brother and Twilight is considered Spike's mother/sister, they both like comics too :D.

I think Twilight sees him as an equal. But I see your point. The best character would be Shining Armor. The problem is that he's also married and has a daughter to take care of. Not to mention he's captain of the royal guard. So yeah he's kinda busy. There really aren't any significant male characters who aren't busy most of the time. And I know you wanted a brother for Spike but I think Starlight would be perfect. You said in your original post you wanted someone Spike could be best friends with and be seen as an equal. Spike and Starlight bonded in the season six premier. So Starlight hanging out with him isn't really a stretch. And yes I know you said brother. :) Just look at as the same way with Siterhooves Social. They have a very liberal definition of sister. :D So why can't Starlight be Spikes brother? :D

Well, maybe it would be a good thing but

1) This show's primary demographic is little girls & Spike is treated like an unordered sidedish.

2) There are already WAY too many characters & too few episodes, I can't really see introducing more characters.

So, good idea or not I don't see that happening.

There's ALWAYS gonna be new characters, my friend! However, Scorpan ain't a new character, he's been part of the show since season 4, just not met directly. And he's been a character in the MLP series since G1, and even though this show is targetted for little girls, having a new major guy character that's not a pony, that's Spike arc written all over it, but with Twilight helping out still a bit! But Twilight's already got her princess of friendship duties, and being the teacher to Starlight. You think she's gonna be the one to look after Scorpan with all she already has on her plate?

Besides, Spike hasn't been an "unordered sidedish" last season. That pretty much has changed.
