If you could live anywhere in the world and why

So if you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I feel that most people I come across in life all have a desired place to be. Some are actually perfectly happy where they are and others feel like they'd belong better else where. Have you ever felt like you were born into the wrong country? How do you view some other countries of which you perceive to be your perfection on Earth?

The United States of America

People often get very surprised as to just how nice Americans really are. A huge part of America is starting to become non-cash based, as in you simply scan something with you card and it pays for it. Compared to most other countries, the American food appetite is huge, all food compared to other places is bigger.

India

Most people think of India and think about huge overpopulated slum dog millionaire like areas. But India has some magnificent bungalows with BMWs and Mercs parked in the crowded streets. India also has a surprisingly huge variety of vegetarian menu options, even at their mc donalds.

Nigeria

It may not be the most popular destination for travel but it attracts A LOT of businesses from all over. They get a lot of leisure travellers who come for its booming economic benefits and spicy food obsession. The traffic is worse than London and Los Angeles.

I'm fine with Ontario, Canada.  There are such a wide range of places to see and things to do it's great.  I've been to the UK and America but I still don't like them as much as Ontario.  I have also been to all other provinces except for Manitoba and Saskatchewan but I find Ontario to be more interesting overall the the other ones.

Formerly, I would say probably somewhere up in North/Northeast US like Michigan or Maine. But now the USA is going to be run all across the board by nuts, I can't say I'd choose to live in the US right now.

I'd probably say Canada, first. It's closer to the USA so I don't feel like it'd be quite as much of a culture shock as other places. Plus, if I lived in Canada I'd get to experience actual winters and might actually think of Spring as a good thing, instead of a dreadful season. O:

Otherwise I'd choose somewhere in Western Europe. I'd have to do more research before I would choose exactly where. Although England would be my first choice off the top of my head. In reality, I'd rather just go tour Europe than actually live there. I've never given much thought to actually living there.

Wouldn't mind living in Bavaria, the black forest, Germany. Good drinks, great scenery, lots of castles to go look at on the weekends. only downside would be the questionable food. And the company, of course. Bloody Germans not getting my jokes. :D

America might not be too bad either, but they don't have proper drinks or 'real' sports besides shooting, so that might be an issue.

Now that I think about it, might just stay in Britain. Best of both worlds, somewhat. :smug:

I'm happy here in Canada for the most part. I love complaining about politics and the constant seasonal flip flopping between too hot and too cold, but it's not all that bad up here.

I do sometimes think about living in other places though. Alaska I've thought about a fair bit after I visited there a few years ago. The landscape is amazing and I prefer cooler climates, but politics in the US is a bit too scary right now. I thought about Australia, but I fear it might be a bit too expensive; a more likelier choice would be the Netherlands. Not only because of the whole WW2 thing, but from what I've seen, it looks like a lovely place to make a home.

I've always wanted to live in Egypt in order to see the pyramids, Las Vegas because of the slot machines in their casinos, and Japan because of their culture.

Because of current events I can't say America, so I would probably want to live in some other first world country.

I would go with Canada, because it wouldn't be too much of a cultural shock compared to others.

  • 1 month later...

I'm happy here in Canada for the most part... and the constant seasonal flip flopping between too hot and too cold, but it's not all that bad up here.

S-Seriously? Even Canada? Cheesus! How far north do I have to move before I can get a consistent cold temperatures? In Idaho now & the summers that hit past the nineties was still too much for me!

I was raised in the dry bowl of California through Texas & the scorching deserts of Arizona! I'm a Forty Degree Feller! I need me a place that doesn't vary too much between winter & summer! Once it starts creeping past 70 I start getting miserable! I need me a place that's almost always damp or cold & so green you can't beat the forest away from growing into your house!

Oregon I lived in for a while & that was absolutely beautiful, they really knew how to build around nature! Lived in an apartment complex for a while where one corner of it was getting eroded away by the bordering creek, at night you could hear a loon coo & sail down underneath your balconies! I need to live somewhere that has blankets of green & bursting with life. Somewhere you can't ignore how much life flourishes, that has a real connection to its past and ecosystem.  Somewhere like Ireland!

I'm part Irish you know! Ever since my dad brought that up I've been a fair bit entranced by tha' Emerald Isles! Steeped in mysticism & magic of its Celtic roots from disparate, warring tribes that while only loosely connected to each other, nevertheless bravely spat in the eye of any intruders who dare try to conquer or change their ways!

Mind you, if I felt that strongly about each of my heritages, I could keep going for decades! If races were species, I'd be as piecemeal as my Draconequusona! To be honest, I still haven't done enough research to tell the difference between Ireland & Scotland, but nevertheless, I love them both!

That's always been my mental image of Ireland. Bright green plains of waving grass, tall, noble cliffs on an icy, rocky shore, thick & ancient forests where you can practically smell the fairies flitter by, the scent of ocean, green life & magic everywhere you turn reminding you of the mystery & majesty of life....

  ... the hot redheads! Hee-hee!

Or the dense, trackless peat bog marshes of Scotland, strife with ancient tales of shadowy dogs that ambush travellers or whip-O'-wills, the small, homey villages where everyone knows exactly who you are & are just rough enough to stand up for each other. I bet you what, like as what ya don' have ta worry about crime in Scotland! Any purse snatcher ain' gettin' mor'n three steps before some'un suckerpunches 'is lights out! Scots is built a' sturdier stuff!!

Probably somewhere in Canada, but here is where the really boring part of my answer comes in; I have lived in Indiana all my life and I try to take pride in Indiana itself, as difficult as that is nowadays. So I probably would like to live somewhere better in Indiana, like Evansville, Bloomington or even Indianapolis. The tiny town I live in now just doesn't really have anything to offer.

After playing 80 hours of Stardew Valley in just a week and a half, I've come to a realization... the city sucks... and the desert isn't as good as I thought it was.

If I had the money I'd move to a small quiet town where everyone knows each others name, and when the seasons changed you could see a noticeable difference rather than it just get colder, or hotter like where I live. But alas the way things are going I'm gonna be living in the desert for a few more years, probably won't ever leave.

pretty happy where I am right now actually ^^;

i have a house with my BF in my hometown. only two things could make it better though if I was a millionaire;

Get a house in the Lake District, thats not too far from one of the bigger towns, but also has its own secluded area away from the big tourist and hiker routes.

Buy one of the houses I grew up in at the village we used to live in. One of them is a big old manor house, but the land has been sold up and built on, so i guess i'd have lost the wondrous gardens and the other house is next door and was the first one i lived in and was my family's first house my Dad designed. I loved it and the garden was lovely too.

This probably comes from the fact that ive never travelled outside the UK (apart from France but meh France) so I only know my fave places in my own country

I'd love to live somewhere both quiet and scenic, but wouldn't want to be isolated from others. I most strongly desire to live somewhere I could have horses. :orly:

I'm completely content with settling down in my home country. I actually wouldn't mind staying in my current state. Ireland and Canada also seem pretty neat! :)

I would like to live in Japan because of my love for all things otaku and anime related and also because they have awesome technology and products that are difficult and expensive to get shipped internationally
