spoiler Are Flim and Flam Members of the Apple family?

I added the spoiler tag for those who haven't made it to that episode yet, the very very few of us who haven't.

That being said, I've been wondering this for almost a year now. Don't blow me off just yet, though.

Flim and Flam both have a very similar coat color to the young member of the Apple family, Apple Bloom. Their cutie marks are both apples, and they seem to have some connection to the Apple family by virtue of being played opposite them so often. There's some kind of connection there, it would seem. The connection seems tenuous at best, if only considered based on color palettes and their flimsy connection to the family by way of being their rivals and then snake oil salesmen to Granny Smith.

However, one thing really does have me curious. Considering that the Apple family has a very strong connection to apples in the form of their cutie marks...

They too have nothing but apples as a part of their cutie marks. This seems to be a little bit too strong of a coincidence, even considering their original plan was that machine with the ridiculous name that made apple cider. Such a one-off event doesn't seem to mesh well with their marks being so closely tied to apples.

What if, instead of simply being conponies who originally seemed to have a chip on their shoulder against the Apple family, they are in fact the black sheep of the Apple family, ostracized for their desire for bits over the ethical running of their various failed entrepreneurial enterprises?

I'll admit, however, part of me only wants this to be true to get to see the expression on Applejack's face when she finds out she's related to those two conponies.

However, I think this is a solid idea to think about, and debate about, so please, if you've any additions or contrary opinions, please let me know!

All I personally infer from their cutie marks is that one is an apple with a slice missing and the other is the missing slice. This means that the Flim Flam Bros. do everything together, even if what they're doing is less than noble.

That is a perfectly fair thought on the matter, and possibly what the creators intended. I just want to read more into it because I think this is a fun idea.

I think their cutie marks are just intended to show that they have some connection with making cider.

The first episode they appeared in, they were making cider together, so I think that story writers and/or character designers only intended for them to ever only appear once by giving them a cutie mark that could relate to making cider.

I think it is just an intended design losing its original intentions and therefore has become "just a cutie mark and nothing more to it".

still, it's interesting their cutie marks use an apple for metaphor . I dunno, it's not entirely impossible they are AJ's VERY distant relatives. I mean, Have you ever thought how many people you walk by everyday and not knowing if you share a common ancestor?

These are akin to my own thoughts. I do believe it's entirely possible that they may be a few times removed, perhaps, but that they are at least somewhat kin to the Apple Family.

If Pinkie can somehow be related to the Apples, I don't see why they can't be. Would be cool if they turned out to be members of the family that went in a totally different path than the rest and as a result was very distant from them. Wouldn't work well with their first appearance though.

Boy, I sure hope not.

I know that it's not THAT out of the question since Mrs Cake, an earth pony, gave birth to a Pegasus and a Unicorn, but I really hope the FlimFlam brothers aren't related to the Apple family in any way
