Is it a bad thing that I like Principal Cinch, mainly out of pity?

Even though a lot of people dislike her very much, Principal Cinch is one of my favourite characters in the whole franchise, simply because I pity her for being a very formal and old-fashioned lady who had to be sinister and nasty just to win a competition. Another reason why I sometimes appreciate her was that she was sometimes seen as "Sunny Flare's mom/relative" due to their similar hair and skin colours.

It is also because I started to appreciate certain MLP:FiM villains for their generic roles in the show, and in some fanfiction known as "Pooh's Adventures".

Do you consider this a bad thing, in that I'm among the few people who appreciated this despicable character of RRReputation?

I don't think it's a bad thing. Many villainous characters do have a certain amount of charm to them combined with their complex personalities that have a strong appeal towards people. I admire Principal Cinch in my own way where she was a villain who never relied on magic or anything supernatural to get what she wanted. Instead, she relied on intimidation that came with her position as principal of Crystal Prep and knowing that her students would fall in line under any circumstances. Also, she takes reputation seriously to the point of pure obsession.

No, it's not a bad thing.

Can it ever really be a bad thing to like a character that you want to like? For example, while I think that King Sombra is a bland and generic, one note bad guy, others may like him, and I can appreciate that.

Plus, I wouldn't call Cinch despicable. Just ..........passionate.

Granted passionate in all of the wrong ways but passionate nonetheless.

I like her design -- so far, she's the only EQG character to look good with lipstick, IMO.

Celestia, Luna, and Cadance need to lose theirs yesterday, however.

Seconding this. I think the lipstick ruins a lot of character designs in EqG, including the background characters. I've seen them(yes all of them) without the lipstick and they are vastly improved by it's absence.

It's a pity many mistake dislike for a character as they being bad characters. I think it comes to the factor that Principal Cinches can be found in real life, instead of the likes of Nightmare Moon, or Tirek. It's OK to dislike her person-wise, but character-wise? Sure, she might not be the most stand-out of them all, but she isn't terrible either I guess

also oh my god people actually read Pooh's adventures?

Yes. Sometimes they do to check out its poor quality, or because they are among its rare fans.

I am one such fan who looks at its pages for inspiration for fictional stories to write about, because I pity the villains' generic roles.
