My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Pinkie Pie

How did you find MLP Forums?: Just a regular Google search, looking for pony sites that were interesting enough. (EQD isn't my cup of tea, really.) I finally decided to give an MLP forum a chance, and this one looked well-developed and friendly.I also figured it might give me an opportunity to make some friends that were into ponies as well. I don't really know of anyone near my area that is a brony, and yet there is a lot that I would love to share with others, yet it is mostly pony-related.

How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: I initially heard about the show from one of my (American) friends that lived near me while I was living in Germany. He watched it with his sisters, and really enjoyed it. I still don't know if he actually knew what Bronies were. I think he just liked it.I never actually saw any episodes then, since they watched it on TV, and, of course, I wasn't over at his house at the time that an episode was airing. But it planted a seed of interest, if only a small one.I still don't remember exactly how, but I stumbled across a reaction video to MLP:FiM. It was from a person who had seen from the third season on, and was going back to watch the other seasons. This actually saved me. I didn't get any spoilers, yet when the first episode was kind of... eh. It wasn't the story that was the problem. It was just some of the execution. Some of the things I could tell were sloppy, like "most powerful magic known to Ponyville," and Twilight's constant "pony" adjective when she was reading about the Mare in the Moon. Of course it is "pony magic." You are all ponies! But the reactor complained about some of the same things, and yet he said the other seasons were better. So I continued watching. I briefly contemplating skipping to the third season, but I didn't, and I am very glad. I pretty much marathoned the whole series until the end of Season 4, when the finale had just gotten out.Having that hiatus after experiencing no delay between any other season was torture.

Currently, I am a fanfiction writer. Not the stereotypical kind, though. Fanfiction tends to have a bad reputation among many groups, but I found that the MLP fanbase has quite a few gems. When I have to explain it to someone who is unaware of that fact, I tend to describe this kind of fanfiction as "stories-that-happen-to-include-copyrighted-content."

Sure, I've written a few poor-quality HiE fics, but mostly due to my inexperience. And narrative-wise, HiE fics are hard to write well. At the start of each one, the writer is forced to create a situation that immediately calls for suspension of disbelief.

Now I tend to prefer stories that are based completely in Equestria, usually with a mostly original cast of characters, with a few show ponies. It gives me a lot more room to be creative.

My current one that I am working on (and the only one worth reading, pretty much - it took me a lot of practice to become good at writing) is this: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/343429/guiding-light

Shameless self-promotion aside, I recently had started to make a language, just for fun. I meant it to be Eqqish (the pony language), and got so far as making an alphabet and a complete set of grammar before I realized that I would have to create a more-than-5,000-word vocabulary. Not fun.

So I converted the alphabet into an English-analog, then decided to make a font with it. I used an online font creator, but it looked a bit blocky, so I used a font editor to fix it (which gave me a really nice introduction to vector graphics). I then spent three hours trying to cram it into my Kindle. Two firmware downgrades and a jailbreak later, I got it on there, and over the next week, I learned how to read in the font. That was fun. And it meant that I could read my favorite fanfics in public without people knowing what I was doing.  :umad:  And it resembled the printed pony language well enough that it was just cool to be able to read. My only regret was that it was rather runic in appearance, and therefore hard to write fast in. So I came up with a cursive script. Interestingly enough, it looks rather a lot like the scribbles that Twilight used in Magical Mystery Cure, and what Cheerilee wrote down on the chalkboard in EQG. I don't have a font for that, though.

When I started my story some time later, I started in my writing journal (I still write down chapters there first). That meant that I could draw diagrams, draft floor plans, draw street maps, etc. That also meant that when I finally put it on FimFiction, I couldn't transfer those drawings. And there was also the issue of a cover image. And I did not want to use Pony Creator again.

Well, a while ago, I had installed an open-source animation program that I had not gotten to learn yet. But it had a great vector art system, and I started to make a picture of the main character (what my avatar is). The end product had over 100 layers, all of them necessary. But I had an image, and it was fun, if tedious, to make.

That still left the problem of the illustrations. Recently, I had gotten a drawing tablet for taking notes for college - no need for paper. So I drew the necessary drawings. But I was interested, and started to draw other characters in the story, that I would post at the end in the Author's Notes. I finally ended up making a frame-by-frame animation, mostly just to see if I could.

And just recently, I worked on (and am about to finish) a pony Shimeji out of my sketches, later in full color. (Kind of like Desktop Ponies, but a lot more interactive with the windows. No, I did not code this. I used a current one I had as a template.)

I also am currently in the Limited Access Release of Legends of Equestria as a bug tester, and as much as I would love to share about this experience, or some funny moments, I have to wait until the game releases to talk about anything.

Well, I hope that was a good enough introduction. I mainly came to this forum for friendship, as well as discussions about ponies. I love to discuss things, and I always respect someone's opinion, even if I disagree on every point. And while I will often argue my side of the issue (unless that issue is just purely opinion), I will accept it if someone decides they are done with the conversation.

Well, if anyone has any questions about me or about something I said that was confusing, please feel free to just ask, and if you have any recommendations for me on what to look for in this forum, please let me know.

Thank you for this wonderful community that I have the opportunity to be a part of!
