   That's How Equestria was founded!

    *Sharp inhale*

*Poofs a paper bag into his claw & hyperventilates into it before accidentally inhaling it, choking to death & falling over dead. Minutes later he pops right back up.*

    Hoh-kay now! I'm good! Here's the picture!

Now, I feel his tentacle oughta be bigger then the claw, but I'm fine with that. As a magical being, I can sorta fiddle with proportions quite a fair bit. Something I've noticed while drawing him is that it seems, like, extraordinarily hard to draw a lobster claw. What's your opinion on how the claw oughta go? More knobbly? More segmented? Maybe smaller or larger then the head? Eh.   My original idea was yellow pupils, like the inverse of how Discord's go ( :umad: ), but I do kind of like this too. Think full glowing eyes might be a bit too much? Like, when I think of solid glowing eyes like that I think of the magical Forsaken zombies or Death Knights of Warcraft, something that's held together by magic, which he is of course, but would that make him see a bit too much edgy? Wanted to get opinions on that too before I write it into his Bio. Speaking of which!

Before you read Widdershin's Bio, you might want to gird whatever you use as loins! As... elaborate as he goes, it's kind of a sinch that a lot of detail would go into his page too. Aaaaand also... I think of him as a fourth-wall breaker that's fully cognizant of his being a character that I created, much in the same spirit as Pinkie Pie, Deadpool & Animalman. Buuuut, that can likely be very grating if not... controlled very well, but being uncontrolled is sort of Widdy's shtick!

You can find his Bio page here!   In Widdershin's Page!

Might come back here much later with my other OCs as I have a habit of making things needlessly complicated!

  • 6 months later...

Alrighty then! Since no one seems to have read this thread so far to give me their view on my Draconequusona, I have no choice but to further convolute things... by a whole sixfold!

Now, I'm practicing my drawing with nothing more than pencil & notebook paper as I do no think I have the required technology to do anything more in depth like "drawing by computor." That being said, these are Iphone pics so I did the best I could on visibility! Any tips on pursuing my art, I could certainly use! But moreso than that I'd like some feedback on my character design of the Cephalli Family! As I state in my current signature, I have links to their bios in my About Me page, and hopefully I can come back sometime to edit in links here too. Though they still need a bit of cleaning up there too, but... I digress! But without further ado, in order from eldest to youngest! It's!

The Cephalli Family!

IMG_3770.jpg Blither! The oldest, but effeminate bookworm worrywart!

What I do worry about most with him is that despite being the eldest, I have this fear that he's also the least developed. I mean, you can only go so far to say he's apologetic & a bit of a crybaby. Oh, and you'll likely notice that I just can't seem to draw a second row of legs in straight parallels to the others, well, usually.

Blither is a light blue unicorn with a seafoam-green mane that curls back around over his cheek! As with him and most of the others, I'm kind of on the fence about what to do with their tail styles, so don't hesitate to corner me on a style critique!

Next up!

IMG_3772.jpg   Flit! Secondborn and a lime-green pegasus with a dyed, Neon red mane!

Yeah, haven't bothered to color them in yet, would probably help. I'm still in the practice stages though so I don't want to push my luck too much there & give myself more to "get right."    If you've noticed by now, I wanted a rear-view of his mane to show that its long enough to part in half on his shoulders into fang-like shapes on either side. Yes, that mane style is inspired by Smooth Sailing of Your OC Sucks! Also, want his tail to be like that, almost always perked up so there's little way to tell if he's flying upside-down or right-side-up!   His cutie mark is supposed to be a Magikarp.

  The Third Eldest!:

IMG_3771.jpg  Shortstack!

Short on stature, temper and patience for those who point out his stature, he's got a body built to bully and a face like a fist! Man, you have no idea how hard it is to figure out how to put a crewcut on a stallion. Wanted to draw a frontward pose to show off his bulldog stance, but I have trouble shifting perspective, everything keeps seeming to come out different each time I draw it. Wanted to give him a short, bobbed-like tail, somewhat longer fetlocks an' them teeny lil' fangs too! And yeah, that is a bandaid on his muzzle that he wears only because he thinks it makes him look tougher... and also that its caught in his fur now & will hurt too much to take it off now.

Shortstack is a rust-red stallion with dark (I want to say Coal-Blue... is that Cobalt, then?) blue, short hair. He's also not much bigger than a filly.

An' yeah. There is a bit of a reason why they seem just a little off from what ponies are usually shaped like.

 Next one!

   Fourth & second largest!

IMG_3774.jpg  Monolith! A Saddle Arabian breed of a Black Unicorn!

Because really. We need more black unicorns.

His eyes are yellow to go with the accent color of his cutie mark, but that is another point for me. Most, if not all, of the rest I haven't settled on for eye color either.

Monolith is a lot more square-skulled & horse-like, or at least I was aiming for that. His mane is supposed to be thin, whispy & grey. All the better to blow in the wind without him knowing.  That pose... I was trying for sitting down, but I'm still fussed over just how pony legs go.

IMG_3773.jpg Slimpsy the Coward!

I believe they call that manestyle type a Duckbutt. Ya know, like Fry from Futurama? That long, wibbly, worried muzzle was intentional too!

...I'm noticing that now. I do worried expressions on ponies, like, real good! Lol! Also noticed that I've somehow managed to capture their relative sizes pretty well, I guess.

Another thing with poor Slimpsy here is his wings. For one, I don't think I'm terribly good at doing pegasai wings yet, but for two... his wings are so huge that they both wrap entirely around his torso... which I fear also led me to make his torso even longer than usual... but hey, I was goin' for gangly! He really is more of a sprinter than a flyer!

And finally! The only mare in the family & who's come close to being my favorite out of them! The youngest, but not least!:

IMG_3775.jpg SUNNY FLUSH!!! The Mountain Mare!

Yes, the FlankShot pose was completely necessary. I assure you. Sunny's a right big gal! She has a strong, wide back big enough to carry most any other pony with ease & enough room for them not to worry about sliding off! Been wondering why there aren't any workhorse-frame mares with Big Mac's body type! That, and I wanted to point out her very C-shaped tail that's thicker in the middle and kind of bobbles along behind like her mass of platinum-blond curls. Speaking of her hair!  Those curls frame her face some six points and her overall fur is denser than most. She's got the long fetlocks plus an extra fluffy chest to her that helps cushion her neck-snapping Bear Hugs!

So what do you all think? What do I need to practice in my drawing? (besides getting a computor to do it for me...) There anything I missed in my characters or anything that needs further explaining?

Hmm... need to work on Ambie too...

Your OCs are good.

The drawings... I'd say you need to practice in the legs alot, the legs of ponies are more straight and the hooves are not larger than the size of the legs. Joints are also not that pronounced.

@Radience  Oh aye, I get you. I do see that a bit in ponies, that there's a little bow backwards at a funny angle. Can see that a bit even in the crystal pony you got in your avatar now. Think I am kind of exaggerating that  fair bit after all, in an attempt to get a little bit closer to real horses. I guess that kind of makes point more in the Earth Ponies like Shortstack & Sunny, but not so much in lighter breeds like unicorns & pegasai.  Oh, I do see that now! That the hooves actually are bigger than the leg! I do try to bow them out a bit further to show that there actually is a hard part there instead of being spongy noodles like the show's ponies.

Thank you for pointing that out for me Radie! I'll see what I can do for that!
