Will the movie be like a movie?

When the Winnie the Pooh movie came out in 2011, it didn't seem like a movie to me, just like a hour long episode of The New Adventures. So, will the MLP movie be like a movie or a long episode?

To not speak as dismissively as some, I would say that I hope that the aesthetics can balance the nature of the show with the demands that a full length film brings so that we can end up with a unique and satisfying experience.

Okay these will the move be... topics are getting ridiculous. Will it be like a movie? Really? I am sure it will be a movie and be like a movie...

. Given that one of the main problems that can arrive from taking a TV show and putting it on the big screen is that the movie would feel more like an extended TV episode than a movie, I feel this is a pretty valid concern to have. Luckily the people involved seem like they are trying to avoid that.

This is more a "My Little Pony" movie than a "Friendship is Magic" movie.

Are you afraid it'll be like an over-glorified episode or EG? I doubt it'll be like that, as it seems they are putting heart and soul for this to be worthy to be called "My Little Pony: The Movie"

Yeah, I can definitely see this as a valid concern. I was just recently watching the Hey Arnold Movie, and it despite the show itself being an internet darling, the movie left me feeling really flat, it felt like it had no business being a movie. The story, the music, the animation, the scale. Nothing felt special, nothing felt different, it is the epitome of an extended TV episode(which does make sense...they never intended to make it a movie, but instead a TV special, and judging by the way the movie felt you can tell they didn't care much about it....)

On contrast, Transformers The Movie completely changes the status quo of its show(time skip, several notable characters dying, including the original leader, Optimus Prime, the original villain changing completely, a new cast of heroes), scale is bigger(A planet sized robot that eats other planets for God's sake), animation is noticeably better vs the show, score is much more memorable

This comment doesn't make much since

It's a Friendship is Magic movie...because the movie is based on the Friendship is Magic generation....which is still part of the My Little Pony franchise....

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Poop released in the 70s. That film was made of shorts that had been released previously which is why it had an episodic nature (and because it was based in a book with different stories). 2011 Winnie the Pooh tried to be like that film a bit for nostalgic reasons (the style with the book letters and such was similar too) and due to its book origins. It's not because it was a tv show or something, it's not a similar case to MLP.

Of course since the mane 6 should be traveling to places it can have a episodic feel, but we can't know how the good the film is until we see it. The makers have said they are trying to make it as much a movie and not another episode as possible and even if you don't like Equestria Girls films they do have a more movie like structure and tone so they can do it.

Based on what we've seen, yeah,  I'm betting it'll be very much a movie feel.

Specifically, they'll introduce the mane six in the barest bones manner possible to avoid confusing the new people to the series, and give a very rough text dump of equestria and the world-- celestia, luna and stuff like discord, the elements of harmony, ect, will be left out.

Twilight will be the only one to get any real development in order to conserve on film time-- the other 5 will act in a supporting role and will be very cardboard cut out esque, with only the very barest minimum of their personalities shown and no real development or roles given to them in order to save on Time-- they'll basically be extra large cameos and will function as "one" instead of 5 distinct characters, being a group "character" that will follow Twilight around for her to bounce monologues off of when she's being developed for the audience.

All of this will save and conserve time for them to introduce and develop the new characters, who, being new, will be on "equal footing" (So to speak) for BOTH new people walking into MLP for the first time AND old fans, and they will get the lion's share of time for development as Supporting characters.

Storm king will be completely new and will be completely untied to any prior events or information from the show, and so will be a completely new character who will appeal to both new and old viewers alike. He will probably be a "generic doomsday" villain due to this, with his sole goal being power and conquest, a nice and simple character for new viewers to latch onto.

The mane six will most likely defeat him in a way that's tied to completely and utterly new macguffins introduced as the focus of the plot, as this will avoid having to explain and introduce the EOH to new viewers and will save on screen time for them to devote to the new Celebrity characters.

It's a movie, so a movie it will be like. Aren't all movies a movie?

I think it just depends on the person. The most devoted fan may see it like a movie, one more like an episode, but I guess it's content too. A movie has to have certain content to make it good, so I hope they add a long and detailed, yet good story and just don't go on and on, dragging out the story.

Like Snowflame was saying, Winnie the Pooh is a different case. It's a book from the 1920's, made into a Disney series in the late 1960's, so it's very nostalgic for most generations at this point. MLP has gone through so many evolution changes over time, that it can be adapted for a lot of change. Winnie the Pooh has stayed mostly the same for the lifetime it has seen.

So, I think it'll seem like a movie to me, but it depends on the person, possibly their devotion to the fandom being a factor.

I find it strange how people rely on technicality sometimes, or others choose to accept the current scenario and actually entertain the question.

But the truth is idk. I would guess more like a sponge-bob movie, minus the emphasis on comedy. So faster paced than the normal show, and with some scenarios the normal show wouldn't be able to get around to, otherwise its pretty similar, I guess?

Is it just me, or did the Sony leaks about the movie suggest that originally it was too much like an extended episode of the show and that was probably why they ditched certain aspects of it?

More cinematic than the entire Equestria Girls series, of course.

Id like to believe that since EqG felt more like a 70 minute fanfic episode then what I wanted let alone expected from a theatrical release of MLP. Bigger? Better? Higher Stakes?...no were just colorful humans now.

I admit when I first heard about the "MLP Movie" coming out in 2017 at the time(was 2015) me and my friends thought it was just another EqG spin off but were then confused to why it had no story, trailer and comes out two years later. So Nobody knew what to make of this.

Well, we'll see! There will be ALOT of new characters introduced, and perhaps each new character might have a similar trait to one of the Mane Seven, which would give a little development for each character! Of course Twilight will receive alot of development, but over the course of the movie, amongst the main cast could perform their best traits to help out the new characters, such as Fluttershy showing kindness towards Tempest Shadow to persuade her to talk about her troubled past in order to help her; or Rainbow Dash showing Captain Celaeno what it truly means to be a noble leader to her crew! Yunno, stuff like that!

i understand your feeling since i see the simpson movie just as a long episode.

but i do not fear with this one since the landscapes and drawings will be more detailed from the artworks i've seen. so that artistic upgrade plus famous cameo actors will make it like a big budget movie and not a tv movie/long episode
