gaming Fighting Games; Pad or Fightstick?

So, when you play fighting games, which do you prefer to use; a controller or a fightstick? Why?

I have always played fighting games with a controller. Personally, fightsticks have always been difficult for me to use. Last year was the first time I actually tried to play fighting games with a stick. Honestly, I think there are pros and cons to both. I don't think one is superior to the other. It just really comes down to the person's own preference.

Even though I only played 1 Fighting Game, (And that is Super Smash Bros) I would use the Controller.

It's better than fightsticks (even though I don't use fightsticks)

Yeah, I don't think fightsticks would work with Supers Smash Bros. The Gamecube controller is probably the best controller for that game.

With Super Smash Bros., I can play it pretty well using the circle pad on the controller, yet my thumb does ultimately prefer using the d-pad because it's something I've grown up with over the 25+ years of being a gamer.

After playing with the original controllers of each system I finally decided to give in to the hype and started using a fightstick 4 years ago. My opinion...I really like both but for obvious reasons. I really do feel the button layout on a stick is way better than a pad for intermediate to expert play since you DO have access to all buttons at once where you can only press certain ones with one thumb and finger so it saves alot of time and finger movement.

For me the downside of the stick is well...the stick. After years of getting used to a fightstick and being told "oh you'll wish you never used a pad after learning this" I still have trouble with certain movements that were always easy on a pad. Movement on a stick has always been problematic for me and have never gotten it to feel natural even after all this time. My execution on the stick is still acceptable but ive never gotten better than 90% success on getting moves to come out.

So I prefer the pad for the familiar movement but the stick for the access to all action buttons at once. It really does make all the difference.

I prefer to mostly use a controller than a fightstick. I am more used to playing fighting games that require a game controller. I've played a few games that required a fightstick at an arcade, but I could never get accustomed to playing games that way.
