Do you want to live forever?

Disclaimer: i'm not going to advertise for a live-forever magical mystery cure.

(title could be read as one of those scam-e-mails).

Now this may sound like a common question, but it's with a twist.

To the point: let's say scientists actually finds a way to actually make you live longer, even forever if you wanted, would you do it?
If not, how long would you continue to extend your life?

666 years?
9521 years?

what reason could you have to live for as long as you want?

NB! you can still die, by accident, war, murder, natural disasters, etc.

i for one would love to live until the planet becomes a sun-glazed spicy meatball, mainly because i'm super curious about science and it's advancement in the future.
it could of course be extremely boring in the long run, but it also gives time to try so many things.
king size bucket list anyone?
alright, discuss.

No, I would not like to live forever.

Don't get me wrong, it would be interesting to see everything that will occur in our planet's future, but I think that seeing everyone die, while doing the same thing for THAT long would get depressing after a while. Not to mention, since the world will end one day, wouldn't you have to take your own life?

If I could I would live for around 200 years.

I'd want to. My phobia is dying so I'd wanna live forever... It'd be even better if I could let a loved one live forever as well.

I'd rather have a normal lifespan because I couldn't bare seeing all of my loved ones age and die while I didn't.

No! Hell no!! Being forced to know that you're always the one to say goodbye? To see anything crumble and die before you? No, thanks.
Worst case would be that everything dies and you're forced to wander an desolate wasteland alone and forever.
There are just too many things that will blunt your mind and more or less slowly drive a normal mind insane.

At most, I would live maybe 300 years if I could. I do want to see mankind's future (which is why if possible I would like to live a longer life where I die of natural causes in my sleep), though It would be depressing to see all of these people die (which is why 300 years might be my limit).

forgot to add that if you could still die for some reason, just not by age :)
added that to the original post.

yes, being the only one to say goodbye isn't really tempting, but still, they would die anyway, unless they too extended their life.

Forever. Because can always get new loved ones. Some people theirs die early. There are people who live on despite that, and sure it'd hurt, but life hurts. Not all the time, and thats why living is good, because its not boring.

I am so conflicted on this subjected and I have thought about it numerous times. On one hand, death is the biggest thing that I have fear, bar none. If I didn't have that fear, I would be able to do anything and more than I could ever imagine if my anxiety didn't continue to hold me at bay. On the other hand...well, slowly watching what you know and love go away completely would be torture. Sure, you could make friends near infinitely and have as many children as you please, but those friends and family will go away eventually and if one is immortal, you will stay behind. That is a very depressing outlook on it.

I'd say I am split right down the middle with this idea.

Yes, I would live forever if giving the option. I don't really care about such mundane thing as "seeing those I know die". I am a monster on the inside, perhaps I will disguise myself as a vampire xD

If I could be young and healthy forever, then yes. I would never get bored. There is so much games, books, movies, etc to watch. People would write this stuff faster than you could even read it. I would not want to be poor, though. But if you live long enough, you could build a savings.

Would you like to implant your mind into a robot body, if you could keep all of your consciousness? One down side would be that you would see your friends and family grow old and die.

I would, if only because I'm tired of the "immortality sucks" crowd. Life is awesome! So what would I do?

Well for maybe a few decades or maybe it would take a century, but I would first master every martial art known to man. My martial arts training is something I'm really passionate about and if I had as long as I wanted, I'd spend as long as I needed to become a true master. Perhaps with some time spent before that beating up MMA, BJJ, and "free style" street brawling punks who think the classical styles are inapplicable in a "real fight." (Yeah got a bit of an ax to grind in that category.)

After that, I'd think I'd enlist in the military. It's always been something that's been a consideration at the back of my mind and I did go to a military college. If I had all the time in the world, I'd serve my four years, maybe more. Assuming I don't die in the line of duty, I'd retire, maybe with the promise that I would re-enlist if I felt my country needed me again.

And before anyone says anything, no I'm not trying to sculpt myself into a Highlander-style immortal warrior. I just have my priorities and as many years as I want to fulfill them.

Next I think I'd go into politics. See if my military service could win me some support to join the department of state. My goal in office would be to foster positive opinions of the United States abroad. To show the world why they fell in love with us in the first place is still here and alive. If I could make even a percent of the census poll in three countries go up, I'll consider my work done. Then maybe my service could provide an avenue for a higher office. The Presidency? Maybe but really what I would like to do is turn my efforts back domestic. Make Americans love their country again. It would take time to be sure, but again, that'd be something I'd have plenty of. Whether through an official domestic office or just plain grass roots community building on every national holiday with public readings of history and accounts of great Americans, native born and immigrant. I could spend a few decades doing that honestly.

By then I'll have lived for . . . . VERY rough estimate, maybe a century and a half? I suck at math and I didn't even give an exact number to any of these so don't quote me on that. I do know what I would do last though. The last thing I would do is become a monk, isolate myself for maybe a century, and try to get closer to God.

After all of that, maybe compiling my experiences and meditations into a few books, I'd say that's more than enough done to rest easy.

I'd love to live forever. I have nightmares revolving around both aging and dying constantly to the point where I can't go an entire day without thinking about it. If I were to live forever, I'd live up to about 1,000 years by becoming an automaton.

Well I already have a strong feeling that I'm already going to to live forever like I'm too important to die no matter what. It really it unexplainable but I might like save us from our own greed or invent something that alows us to do anything we want like even populate other universes but still I don't really know at this point. :)
