It's really nice!

 

The only thing, that catches my attention is lack of colors/details on Twilight's mane. That's a pretty important detail and lack of it makes it look empty.

Besides that, it's a lovely drawing, great work!

Celestia must depart to where Twilight can't go. They're like mother and daughter and I wanted to convey that level of emotion between them by realizing that they love each other very much even to the end.

HOLY SMOKES!!! You are amazing! I love the background but one thing I must point out is Celestia's lack of mane-flowing-ness. You know how her mane does that floating thing. But it is really adorable and sad!

You've figured it out! Congrats.

 

Celestia's powers are gone now since ever since she "stepped" down(that explains why her hair lacks her lustrous flowing form) and that very power was perhaps allocated to Twilight
