There's no denying that Spike was at his best in season 6! He was pretty good in season 1 and season 2! He was... okay in season 3. He was pretty good in season 4 in episodes that starred him, but not so much in between, and he wasn't so good in season 5. Season 6 Spike! Bingo! That's the one we want for season 7! After being very supportive to Starlight, befriending both a dragon and a changeling and started the alliance between their species and Equestria, and then being a good friend to Discord and his interactions with both him and Big Mac!

Are we going to expect more stuff like this in season 7? I certainly think so! Hey, maybe even better if we're lucky! Do we expect a destiny from him? Are we going to see his origins? Or is he going to be degraded back to the comedic sidekick punching-bag? Pfft! Yeah, like that's gonna happen ever again! XD What do you think? What's going to be his part in season 7? :D

A lot of the same writers are returning, so I don't see why Spike or anyone else would be that different. Seeing Spike in Season 5 is painful compared to Season 6. They finally figured out how to write great Spike episodes (that show his character growth) on a consistent basis.

Hope so, Spike was easily the best handled character of S6 and I hope S7 keeps that trend going

I also hope they put just as much effort they do with the other characters as the other characters as they did him

Oh yeah! Alot of seasons had shown certain characters at their best in my opinion, such as Applejack and Rainbow Dash in season 3, Twilight and the CMCs in season 4, Pinkie and Rarity in season 5, and Fluttershy and Spike in season 6! If we can combine all those into one season, it would probably be the best season!

I found him boring in season 6. He's better when he's just a snarky kid. They to focus more on fixing other characters anyway.

He was snarky in some episodes in season 6! Like A Hearth's Warming Tale, and PPOV, but still at his best! I'm not saying he can't be a snarky, sarcastic kid! He's funny that way in episodes he doesn't star in! Just as long as he's not the one getting beat up or neglected. But in episodes he does star in, he's gotta show his best, while still being himself! But in episodes that doesn't star him, then yeah, snarky, comedic, sarcastic, and voice of the audience! ;)

Snarky Spike works well when he's a supporting character, when he's the main character it just makes him look bad considering how most of his pre s6 episodes portrayed him.

Anyway Im pretty sure early in S6 prodction the writers and producers and everyone had some kind of meeting on Spike and what to do with him, it felt like a very concentrated effort to fix the character up and so I see no reason to expect that to stop.

I think Fluttershy is tied with Spike for that actually, which is funny since Fluttershy used to be my least favorite major character. But the trio of Flutter Brutter, Buckball and Viva Las Pegasus pretty much saved her for me and propelled her up my list a bit.

Rarity and Pinkie were fine as well, pretty standard season for both of them, which usually means pretty good with the occasional meh (which in this case for me is really just Rarity in Cart Before the Ponies, iv warmed up to Spice up your Life). Twilight wasn't BAD she just didn't DO much of anything.

Rainbow and Applejack, yeah they were really mixed, but honestly I think Rainbow Dash has had the most mixed quality episodes of the M6 since S2 basically, I pretty much EXPECT to hate at least one RD episode a season at this point, and Applejack, well they've always had trouble with her episodes, but I still think Viva Las Pegasus is one of the best uses of the character in a staring role in a while, using flaws in a way that didn't feel unnatural (which frankly has always been the problem with AJ as a starring character she's the least flawed main character on top of not really having any ambitions and in a show based around learning moral lessons that can things rather difficult) , and she's fun in Buckball and that flashback episode that im to tired to remember the name of right now too.

It's possible that Spike will have major roles with Starlight and Fluttershy in two of his episodes and one for himself in Season 7, or more interestingly, instead of a Spike/Fluttershy episode, a threesome episode involving all of him, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie.

"Are we going to expect the S6 Spike?"  Don't be silly, of course we are.

The key question is "Are we going to GET the S6 Spike?" That's a damn good question.  Wish I had a damn good answer to go with it.

Sadly, we didn't. His only episode: Triple Threat, and I don't think he'll get Uncommon Bond, either.

Seeing this thread bumped reminded me of a dream I had a few nights ago. I dreamed you posted a tweet from Jim Miller who had responded to your question as to whether Spike had any more episodes this season. His response was Triple Threat was the only one

What a weirdly specific dream. So much so I woke up thinking it had actually happened. Hopefully it's not true but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Also you can see how exciting my life is in that I dream about the Internet when I'm not online, lol.

Dude, you're scaring me right now, brah! XD I really hope that dream DOESN'T come true, no offense though!

I dreamed All Bottled Up was a Starlight/Spike episode and that didn't come true. So... yeah! Even if Uncommon Bond isn't his episode - there's still Once Upon a Zeppelin! It's not his episode, but we could be getting some Spike/Twilight's family interactions! I'm hoping for that more than anything else he's getting this season! He is owed in season 8 though!

I'll be happy if he at least gets to be in his usual advisory role at this point for the rest of this season. He's been mostly irrelevant after "A Flurry of Emotions." It's like someone flipped a switch starting with the S5 finale giving Spike the respect he deserves and flipped it off after the 2 S7 openers. Josh Haber might be the best thing for Spike in S8. =)

I agree. In fact, to make the season easier for him, I'm hoping that Twilight, Rarity, Rainbow, and Applejack will ALL give up a lot of their screen time since their arcs are finished.

Advisory role, maybe, but I wanna see a little more development than that! Does the Sparkle family consider him family? I mean, he's got nobody else as his family! He never met his! If this isn't the case, how is Spike so damn content with his life? Not knowing his family doesn't seem to bother him one bit. It's so weird! Is he hiding something and is doing a good job hiding it?

I also want to know how close he is to the family, but since this might be the only chance we get to see Twi's parents in any sort of starring role, I'd like them to be the focus of the episode. Spike will always be there.

I don't like spike a whole lot, but I hope they make him an even better character. One thing I really hope they will do is end his infatuation with Rarity. That false ship is getting kind of really old and would mature the character quite a lot to have that end.

I hope he's prevalent in the vacation episode as well and will be interested to see how he relates to Twilight's parents - if he gets to come along. That's my point - this season he's been so scarce I can't even be sure he's going to go along with Twilight on her trip, even if it would make sense for him to do so. What I was alluding to earlier was I've kind of thrown my hands in the air at this point and will take any kind of positive role for Spike for the rest of the season, even if it's just being Twilight's sensible advisor again and hope things get back to S6 levels next season.

As for whether knowing his family bothers him or not, I think it does - or at least it did. It certainly bothered him in "Dragon Quest," and I've theorized his greatest fear of Twilight abandoning him relates in some way to him wondering whether his parents were killed or if they gave his egg up of their own free will. Neither is particularly healthy for his state of mind, though if he worries his parents didn't love him, then that bears directly on that abandonment fear.

It's true he's been doing better since he tangled with Sombra's dark magic, and I suppose a lot of that is his newfound celebrity as the hero of the Crystal Empire. But I hope they don't forget his earlier issues and revisit them someday, especially if word of his origins becomes known.
