What are some of your favorite song lyrics???

Here are some of mine:

Foo Fighters - New Way Home

"I'll never tell you the secret I'm holding

I know these things must bore you

I can't find another way

I'll never tell you the secrets i'm holding

I love this leash that holds me

When I try to run away"

Breaking Benjamin - The Diary Of Jane

"There's a fine line between love and hate

And don't mind, just let me say

That I like that, I like that"

Radiohead - Airbag

"In the next World War

In a jackknifed juggernaut

I am born again

In the neon sign

Scrolling up and down

I am born again"

U2 - Please

"September, streets capsizing

Spilling over down the drains

Shard of glass, splinters like rain

But you could only feel your own pain

October, talk getting nowhere

November, December; remember

We just started again"

Muse - Knights Of Cydonia

"And how can we win

When fools can be kings?

Don't waste your time

Or time will waste you"

There is one particular line that has always been a favorite for me, it is from the song 'Ghost Love Score' by Nightwish and it is also what my motto here is:

"Redeem me into childhood, show me myself without a shell."

The writer, Toumas, explained that the line is directly referencing his childhood and how he believes those to be happier times for him. He tries to tap into his childhood through his lyrics. This reminds me of myself in many ways, as I view myself as a child at heart.

Another great piece of lyrics, for no particular reason are the chorus lines from the Zeraphine song 'Tomorrow's Morning':

"Leaving our hopes alone tonight, we've buried tomorrow's morning. Tracing the scopes of our delight, we've buried tomorrow's morning."

Always loved that chorus.

Another awesome set of lines from the song 'Tera-Fied' by Static X:

"Put it in the slot, breathe it all in, take another hit, show me what you've got, rhythm in the head, hold the fucker in, never got enough, never got enough, loving you to death I put the trigger on hold!"

Yet more great lines, from the song 'Clash of Cultures' by Mechina:

"Mindwash the weak, turn them to pawns, our crying mothers, their dying sons. Forget morality, inject vanity, upon the alters, of history."

Those are some of my favorites.

This is such a good topic but it's so hard to remember them specifically. (:P)

Here are some songs that are great lyrically (in my opinion):

Earth Song - Michael Jackson ("Did you ever stop to notice all the blood we've shed before? Did you ever stop to notice the crying Earth, the weeping shores?");

Imagine - John Lennon ("Imagine there's no countries. It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for and no religion too. Imagine all the people living life in peace.");

Somewhere Only We Know - Keane ("Oh, simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need something to rely on.");

American Pie - Don McLean ("Something touched me deep inside, the day the music died.");

Creep - Radiohead ("But I'm a creep. I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here.");

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton ("Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?");

Who Wants to Live Forever - Queen ("There's no chance for us. It's all decided for us. This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us.").

And, probably an unpopular opinion, I'm Still Here by Goo Goo Dolls ("They can't tell me who to be 'cause I'm not what they see. The world is still sleeping while I keep on dreaming for me.").

Here is one from Johnny Cash- Ring of fire "I went down down down into the burning ring of fire. Down down down, then the flames came higher. Then it burns burns burns.

The ring of fire. the ring of fire."

Then this one from C.C.R.-Bad Moon On The Rise  "Looks like were in for nasty weather. One eye is taken for an eye. Don't go out tonight. It is bound to take your life. There is a bad moon on the rise."

I have a lot more oldies and classics I listen too. I'll  come up with more.

"There is no greater world I know than that of Pure Imagination"

-Land of Pure Imagination, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

"When you learn to start accepting yourself, you'll become a shining star."

-Great to be Different, Forest Rain

"If seeing is believing, then believe that we have lost our eyes."

-I can Barely Breathe, Manchester Orchestra

Three off the top of my head. I love Manchester Orchestra for some good alternative rock music. They are great people too. :3

You used to get it in your fishnets

Now you only get it in your night dress

Discarded all the naughty nights for niceness

Landed in a very common crisis

Everything's in order in a black hole

Nothing seems as pretty as the past though

That Bloody Mary's lacking in tabasco

Remember when you used to be a rascal?

- "Fluorescent Adolescent," Arctic Monkeys

Foo Fighters - New Way Home "I'll never tell you the secret I'm holding I know these things must bore you I can't find another way I'll never tell you the secrets i'm holding I love this leash that holds me When I try to run away"

^^^^ YES did not expect to find this here

Starting at 1:37 in the video:

Mother Mary won't you whisper,
Something that was past and done?
Mother Mary won't you whisper,
Something that was past and done?

Why can't we not be sober?
I just want to start this over.
Why can't we drink forever?
I just want to start this over.

I am but a worthless life,
I am but an imbecile,
I will only complicate you,
Trust in me and fall as well.

I will find a center in you,
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you,
Just enough to bring you down.

Mother Mary won't you whisper,
Something that was past and done?
Mother Mary won't you whisper,
Something that was past and done?

(repetition of lines) etc...

A few of my favorite snippets (with links to the full song, if you're so inclined)

Sit Down by James:

"Now I've swung back down again; it's worse than it was before

If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor..."

Fountain of Sorrow by Jackson Browne:

"Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer

I was taken by a photograph of you

There were one or two I know you would have liked a little more

But they didn't show your spirit quite as true..."

Girls Talk by Elvis Costello:

"But the word up on everyone's lips is that you're dedicated

You may not be an old fashioned girl but you're gonna get dated..."

Summer Wages by Ian Tyson:

"She's a woman so fine I may never try to find her

For good memories are all we had before

They should never be changed for they're all that I'll take with me

Now I've gambled and lost my Summer wages..."

Midwest Midnight by Michael Stanley:

"I hear them calling:

'Boy, you should be grateful to get your foot inside the door

you know there's thousands out there who would take your place,

This attitude of yours my son well it lacks due respect

when you bit the hand that feeds you even if you're never fed...'"

Kodachrome by Paul Simon:

"If I think back on all the crap I learned in high school

It's a wonder I can think and all

And though my lack of education hasn't hurt me none

I can read the writing on the wall..."

Paradise by John Prine:

"The coal company came with the world's largest shovel

They tortured the timber and stripped all the land

They dug for the coal 'til the land was forsaken

And wrote it all down as the progress of man..."

Message To My Girl by Split Enz

"No more empty self-possession

Visions swept under the mat

It's no New Years' resolution

It's more than that..."

Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner by Warren Zevon:

"Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland's Thompson gun and bought it"

At the moment, its these set of lyrics from these songs.

Who survived? Somebody new?
Anyone else but you?
On a lonely night was a blinding light
A hundred leaders would be borne of you

I don't know much about your life beyond these walls
The fleeting sense of love within these God-forsaken halls
And I can hear it in his voice, in every call
"This girl who's slept a hundred years has something after all"

You'd fit perfectly to me, we'd end our loneliness, melt this curse away
Though I'll never know your name I've cried for you the same

The frozen white noise static snow that is your memory
Although I know we'll never meet you're ever part of me

Thank you, I'll say goodbye soon
Though its the end of the world,
Don't blame yourself now
And if its true,
I will surround you and give life to a world
That's our own

Porter Robinson - Language

Give me release
Let the waves of time and space surround me
Yeah
'Cause I need room to breathe
Let me float back to the place you found me
I'll be okay

House on Fire

I feel the pain and it feels good, I know it would
Your heart burns slow, I feel the pain and I cry out, I cry out

Chandelier

But I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down, won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight

Take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind

Down the foggy ruins of time

Far past the frozen leaves

The haunted frightened trees

Out to the windy bench

Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow

Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky

With one hand waving free

Silhouetted by the sea

Circled by the circus sands

With all memory of fate

Driven deep beneath the waves

Let me forget about today until tomorrow

Bob Dylan knows my soul. Many of his lyrics seem to cut through the illusion of countenance and outward defense, at least they do for me.

Smile

Music by Charles Chaplin, Lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
you’ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through
for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile what’s the use of crying
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you’ll just
Smile

 I love that one. It's so heartfelt and beautiful. And speaking of beautiful, here's a nice duet from Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella:

Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?

Prince: Do I love you because you're beautiful, or are you beautiful because I love you?

Am I making believe I see in you a girl too lovely to be really true?
Do I want you because you're wonderful, or are you wonderful because I want you?
Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream or are you really as beautiful as you seem?
Cinderella: Am I making believe I see in you a man too perfect to be really true?
Do I want you because you're wonderful, or are you wonderful because I want you?
Both: Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream or are you really as wonderful as you seem?

Hoo boi. Where to begin.

Tool has a good chunk of lyric segments that I could fill this page with for various reasons, but to keep it short, I'll pick a couple real good ones.

Vicarious: "The universe is hostile, so impersonal. Devour to survive, so it is, so it's always been."
Parabola: "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment. Remember, we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion."
Schism: "I've done the math enough to know the dangers of our second guessing. Doomed to crumble unless we grow. Strengthen our communication."

Another really good lyrics band is Gojira.

The art of Dying: "I won't bring no material in the after life. Take no possessions, I would rather travel light. I'm of this kind that kills all day, but I don't know yet how to die"
The Axe: "
In the dark I've lingered too long. This sharpened axe, beam of light, I reach for and I master, wield against these shadows. It's purpose now revealed in silence. Keep searching, question if this light ends"
Heaviest matter in the universe:
"
Lay down fall away
Lie awake
Just cannot move
My arms and legs
I’m paralyzed
Don’t recall how to free
Myself from this
In the heart of the dark
My face contorted
Don’t know how to reach the light
But I feel so bad
Like a freak in a cage"

That last one resonates with me, because I've suffered from night terrors and sleep paralysis before a number of times.
I'll leave it there for now. Cause I could quote amazing songs all day. xD

Dreams of an Absolution

In the nightlight, do you see what you dream?
All your troubles, are they all what they seem?
Look around you, then you may realize
All the preachers, all with their lies.
And I might know of our future
But then you still control the past
Only you know if you'll be together
Only you know if we shall last
In the night light, do you still feel your pain?
For the valor you waited, it never came.
If you were able, would you go change the past,
To mend a faux pas with one last chance?
And I might know of our future
But then you still control the past
Only you know if you'll be together tonight
'Cause every night I will save your life
And every night I will be with you
Cause every night I still lay awake
And I dream of an absolution
'Cause every night I will make it right
And every night I will come to you
But every night it just stays the same
In my dream of an absolution
In the nightlight, do you see what you dream?
All your triumph, and all you'll ever be
Look around you, then you may realize
Happiness lies trapped in misery
And who knows what of our future
We can all try to change the past
Only you know if you'll be together tonight
'Cause every night I will save your life
And every night I will be with you
'Cause every night I still lay awake
And I dream of an absolution
'Cause every night I will make it right
And every night I will come to you
But every night it just stays the same
In my dream of an absolution
(Instrumental)
'Cause every night I will save your life
And every night I will be with you
'Cause every night I still lay awake
And I dream of an absolution
'Cause every night I will make it right
And every night I will come to you
But every night it just stays the same
In my dream of an absolution
And you'll see (and you'll see)
What you'll be (what you'll be)
And you'll see (and you'll see)
All you can be (all you can be)
Oh (oh)
'Cause every night (every night)
And every night (and every night)
And every night (and every night)
I will dream (I will dream)
And you'll see (and you'll see)
(yeah) That this is my dream (what you'll be)
And you'll see
Every night (all you can) (oh)
I will always dream (yeah)
'Cause every night (every night)
And every night (and every night)
And every night (and every night)
I will dream (I will dream)

In terms of lyrics for me, I think this song is the most powerful for me.

Warning! This song has some quite vulgar lyrics.

I'm Not Lars Ulrich - Vargskelethor

THERE'S A REALLY COOL GUY ON YOUTUBE THAT I LOVE
ALL MY BANDCAMP STUFF IS AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE, UPLOADED BY HIM
BUT HE'S ALSO MONETISED ALL MY CONTENT
NOW, I DONT HAVE COPYRIGHT ON MY SONGS SO I CAN'T DO ANYTHING
BUT I CAN WRITE THIS SONG TO TELL EVERYONE WHAT A SHITHEAD HE IS

I'M NOT LARS ULRICH
I'M NOT REALLY RICH
I THINK ITS REALLY COOL OF YOU
TO PROFIT OF MY SONGS YOU STUPID BITCH

WHY DO YOU PUT ADS
ON ALL MY FUCKING SONGS
I REALLY LIKE THAT THE PART
WHERE PUTTING AD FLY LINKS
IS "SUPPORTING US"

LETS SEE IF YOU'VE GOT THE FUCKING BALLS TO UPLOAD THIS SONG
CMON
DO IT

SEE WHAT OTHER ARTISTS DO THEY JUST TAKE DOWN STUFF THROUGH THEIR LABEL
BUT I DON'T HAVE ONE
AND I DON'T HAVE COPYRIGHT SHIT
SO WHAT I'LL DO INSTEAD IS WRITE A SONG TO PERSONALLY SAY
FUCK YOU

(This is actually a joke, I have too many songs with lyrics I like to just pick one.)

Pretty much anything by Blind Guardian is awesome. Here are some of my favorite lyrics.

The Hobbit

Spoiler

Out in the distance
There's so much gold
The treasure that I've found
Is more than enough
Far to be the hill we've to go
Over the mountain and seas
To the old hill
Where the old dragon sleeps
Blind in the dark dungeon's night
So God please take me away from here
And Gollum shows the way right out

I'm alive
The dying dragon brought trouble and pain
And horror to the halls of stone
I'll take the mighty stone
And leave the dwarves behind
Ice and fire and forest we passed
And horror in the halls of stone
Trolls in the dark
The dawn took them all
Caught in the wood
By the wooden kings' men
But now I'm alone
'Cause I've made up my mind
By the spell of gold
The king under the mountain
Will risk the great war
Oh what a fool

He's losing control
So I am trying to find a way

Blind in the dark dungeon's night
Then darkness comes from the northern side
And Thorin clears his mind

Time Stands Still (On The Iron Hill)

Spoiler

Light fails at dawn
The moon is gone
And deadly the night reigns

Finally I've found myself
In these lands
Horror and madness I've seen here
For what I became a king of the lost?
Barren and lifeless the land lies

Lord of all Noldor
A star in the night
And a bearer of hope
He rides into his glorious battle alone
Farewell to the valiant warlord

(repeat 2x):
The Fate of us all
Lies deep in the dark
When time stands still at the iron hill

I stand alone
Noone's by my side
I'll dare you
Come out
You coward
Now it's me or you

He gleams like a star
And the sound of his horn's
Like a raging storm
Proudly the high lord
Challenges the doom
Lord of slaves he cries

Slowly in fear
The dark lord appears
Welcome to my lands
You shall be damned

The iron crowned
Is getting closer
Swings his hammer
Down on him
Like a thunderstorm
He's crushing
Down the Noldor's
Proudest king

Under my foot
So hopeless it seems
You've troubled my day
Now feel the pain

The Elvenking's broken
He stumbles and falls
The most proud and most valiant
His spirit survives
Praise our king
Praise our king
Praise our king
Praise our king

The Bards Song, In The Forest

Spoiler

Now you all know
The bards and their songs
When hours have gone by
I'll close my eyes
In a world far away
We may meet again
But now hear my song
About the dawn of the night
Let's sing the bards' song

Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away
The fear of today
It will be gone
Due to our magic songs

There's only one song
Left in my mind
Tales of a brave man
Who lived far from here

Now the bard songs are over
And it's time to leave
No one should ask you for the name
Of the one
Who tells the story

Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow all will be known
And you're not alone
So don't be afraid
In the dark and cold

'cause the bards' songs will remain
They all will remain

In my thoughts and in my dreams
They're always in my mind
These songs of hobbits, dwarfs and men and elves
Come close your eyes
You can see them too

These songs inspired some key scenes in my writings, largely in in-universe Apocrypha, though my world and general tone is much different, they're just to cool

In a more up beat, laid back style.

Island Song

Spoiler

Come along with me
To a town beside the sea
We can wander through the forest
And do so as we please.

Come along with me
To a cliff under a tree.
Where we'll gaze upon the water
As an everlasting dream

All of my affections
I'll give them all to you
Maybe by next summer
We won't have changed our tune

'Cause we'll want to be
In this town beside the sea
Making up new numbers
And living so merrily

All of my affections
Give them all to you
I'll be here for you always
And always be for you

Come along with me
To a town beside the sea
We can wander through the forest
And do so as we please
Living so merrily

Terence Jay - One Blood.

In the far away fires
Where the hills forever burn
At the feet of our heroes
We try hard to learn
But the lesson is lost there
In the smoke and the mud
That we are one flesh
One breath
One life
One blood

I stood by the river
That ran red with shame
I stood in the killing fields
Where death had no name
I stood with my brothers
And awaited flood
And we were one flesh
One breath
One life
One blood

Then I fell to the ground
Tasted ashes on my town
Thinking that only the dead
Are forever young..

There was peace in the twilight
And for a moment or more
It was a world without danger
A world without war
And I will take all your suffering
It will do any good
Cause we are one flesh
One breath
One life
One blood

I mostly like motivational lyrics, like the ones from the Enigma Song - Return to Innocence :

" If you want, then start to laugh
If you must, then start to cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny.

Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence
."

There are also a few Lyrics from a rather unknown Band Flokati Orange that comes to my mind, its from the Song New Sun, but since there are no Lyrics to the Song and the last time i checked, there was not a single piece of Information about the Band on the entire Internet, i have to guess the Lyrics, because english is also not my main language.

I guess a part of it went like this :

" I feel excitement and dizzyness,

my knees are going weak.

But i laugh about it and have so much fun,

its the rising of a new Sun "

I would write more, since he also sings about trees no longer having leaves anymore and that the summer is long gone, but he doesnt care because of the new sun. But as i said earlier, i cant find Lyrics to this Song anywhere. I mean i havent checked since one year, but im pretty sure it still doesnt have any.
