gaming Video game levels/sections that do/don't live up to their reputation

A thing that happens in gaming quite often is that a game will gain a reputation. Not just for the overall game itself, but sometimes, specific parts of a game will gain their own rep for whatever reason. Be it the level or section was amazing to people, or gamers thought it was insanely tedious or perhaps immensely difficult. There are many reasons why one part of a game can be etched into gaming history.

So I want to look deeply into this subject. Here, I want to us to discuss levels or sections in games that have reputations for any reason, and if that particular part of that game either lived up to that reputation or for you, it simply didn't.

I will start with one that is fairly infamous:

Blighttown from Dark Souls: This is the part of the game you hear about constantly. When I started playing the game, all I heard about from people was how terrible Blighttown is and how it is one of the most difficult parts of the game and blah blah. When I got there and proceeded through it, all I found out was that one aspect of this reputation was true: It is essentially low-framrate town. Beyond that though, I honestly found Blighttown to be quite simple. Sure there are snipers that can give you toxic, but once you kill them, they are gone forever. Blighttown can be tricky if one rushes it, but that can be said about a lot of the game. I took it slowly and eventually overcame the area with relative ease. I personally thought the Tomb of the Giants was drastically worse. I personally felt that Blighttown absolutely didn't live up to the reputation it had gained.

People are always complaining about Whitney's Milktank in Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal, but I never really had a problem with her or the infamous rollout machine that people say her Pokemon was.

And I only used my Crocanaw against her.

However the fights against Red in the originals and remakes are just as awesome as people say they are.

Final Fantasy Tactics - Riovantes Castle, in particular the second and third battle

Almost a guaranteed death trap for anyone going in new. The game gives you the option to save after the first battle, but you cannot leave to grind. This is important because the 2nd level, the battle with Wiegarf and Velius is absolutely brutal, if you go in underleveled, it's practically impossible, and if you saved without having a back up save before going into Riovantes, well then congratulations, you now have a worthless save file!

Because of this game, I now always make 2 save files for every game that allows me to

My least liked part of a game I would have to say is all of the great bay from Majora's mask. Don't get me wrong the story for that area is great and all but the things you can become quite aggrevating. For example collecting the Zora eggs. You never have enough bottles to keep them in and the worst part about it is rescuing the eggs from the sea snakes. The swim mechanics in the original were really squirrelly and the jumping can be a bit tricky. But in the remake the swimming got worse. The temple was frustrating and as JonTron would say I would rather drown then beat Gyorg. Especially in the remake since you have to get him to suck in the bombs. And hit that eye thing that comes out.

My favorite part from the game I would have to say is all of Ikana canyon. I really liked the story and the history that surrounds it. Especially with the whole stone tower temple being pretty much being the Zelda equivalent Tower of Babel. And how it is a big middle finger to the goddesses from the people of termina. Only complaints I have is you have to flip the temple a bunch of times to get everything. This may be a bit off topic but there is a funny Easter egg in the remake that is in hylian. In the great bay lab there are two turtle shells hanging up with labels under them that translate into little brother and big brother.

Dynamic on Track has the reputation for being one of the most cancerous levels in Geometry Dash. It contains so many fakes to trick you, and the amount of trial and error is very unhealthy. When the speed goes triple speed, you have to know the level by heart in order to beat it because you can't rely on reactions for fast paced levels with some memorization. It's also underrated in difficulty, being only rated hard 5 stars when there are harder, insane, and demon left to choose from. I think the level is demon considering the amount of memorization required to beat the level, and while it is fast paced it doesn't have very fun gameplay.

The W4R-D3N boss fight in Borderlands 2.

It has a small bit of a reputation for being a difficult fight when you're unlucky with weapon drops. Deserves more of one to be honest.

The ability for the fight to be won playing solo is entirely RNG. Literally, if you don't have a shock weapon, you might as well not even try. I tried the fight 3 levels over and still could not get even close to beating it because I couldn't get through the shields (No shock weapons that deal bonus to shields!) Sure this boss fight can be easy with good RNG, but without it it's basically impossible playing solo. Now in Co-Op I would think that there would be less RNG with more weapon drops, but nonetheless. Still a poorly designed fight that should have been made easier for solo runs. By no means should anyone have to start a whole new save just to beat one boss's need for on-spot RNG...

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH, I REMEMBER ONE: THE END FROM MGS3 SNEEK EATER  . I've seen videos detailing how hard, he is, and ho often people spent an hour to beat that guy, but for me, while he provided a good tactical boss fight, it was far from the insanity that was mentioned all the time

The Ace Combat 5 mission where you are suddenly an aerial photographer.

Got me stuck when I was like, 7 years old. Never saw the ending to one of the greatest air-combat games ever made until I was a teenager.

I don't think that the very last level of halo reach gets a lot of recognition. I thought that it wrapped up the game perfectly and very well mirored the sacrifice that Noble team has made for their planet. After all, Noble six was the only reason Cortana was able to get to the Master Chief and was the one person to save the Pillar of Autumn.

Oh, I got another one: The Shadow Queen from Paper Mario The Thousand Years Door. Why? I keep seeing comments of people that have YET to defeat her  . Yeah, she's HARD, but she's far from impossible
