movies/tv Is there nothing to watch on TV nowadays?

Back in those days, we've always had the good things to watch, mainly int he 80's and 90's, along with the early 2000's, but nowadays, there's virtually nothing to see. Just a bunch of pointless movies to watch, or even cartoons that has no appeal, even sports that are mostly monotonous and unexciting unless it involves the world cup. What of your opinions regarding TV shows today that provides little to no entertainment values?

TV these days has become mostly irrelevant. Movie and TV Producers are focusing more and more on special streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime, where they already show exclusive TV Shows for these streams. And in general, people find the Internet more appealing as a sort of Entertainment in general.

For me personally? Definitely not. There are tons of other options to watch the shows I want to watch without watching standard television, like buying the show on a service, that is what I have been doing lately. Buying my shows on Xbox Live. :D No commercials and on demand, far more worth it.

I myself rely on torrenting movies and buying DVDs from popular TV series in the past. IMHO, I prefer torrent over Netflix and Amazon Prime so I wouldn't have to pay a monthly fee for both streaming services.

I think it is all in how you look at it. I have not been interested in watching 'TV' in years. But I do still enjoy some science and history programs and documentaries. But for some, they are still heavy TV watchers, and if you think about it, TV is just moving online slowly (quickly in many cases with new companies starting up), so in a few years we can all sit around complaining there is nothing online either.

With the advent of Netflix, Hula, and the like along with online streaming, television shows have lost a lot of their lustre in recent years, but I wouldn't dismiss them entirely. The older generation still appreciates watching them on television as intended and not everyone has access to the current technology used by others. Granted, I don't watch as much T.V. as I used to since I prefer to rely on YouTube and Netflix for a lot of my programming needs.

What we see on the television these days is NOTHING compared to what we used to see back in the 90's.. Back then people actually focused on character development an a good plot but now you just see cartoons with no meaning and based on whatever thing that pops in the mind of the creator. Heck! I saw a Teen Titans Go episode based on a battle between hamburgers and burritos! >.> (I mean there was always an exception but most of them were actually good shows)

But all in all, it really depends where you look because like I mentioned before there's always an exception and at least I know I can find a few shows that I find enjoyable if I look in the right places

no, i even went to the point where i permanently disabled the antenna inputs in my TV to avoid the license fee.
much of the older stuff is available on streaming sites, and newer stuff isn't even released here in norway.
not worth it.
the TV works nicely as a PC monitor tho :P

I used to watch a lot of history and science channel shows but I don't anymore. It's not about presenting facts anymore, but offering opinion as fact and I can't abide that.  :okiedokieloki:

Also, if a good show comes along, another ten to fifteen clones of it appear overnight and oversaturate the market, diluting the subject matter until it becomes a bore-fest. :pout:

Cartoons these days absolutely suck except for Star Wars Rebels. Everything is badly animated and badly written. And even though I pay for satellite TV there are still so many commercials it's hardly worth it anymore. I'm always much happier watching a DVD instead.  :twi:

I used to watch shows like the Discovery Science, Investigation Discovery and TBS all the time, but ever since I moved out of my parents' place last year, I never even got myself cable. Everything I'm interested in is on streaming services like Netflix or Hulu, so I just don't need it. Everything else on TV is mostly reality shows that are extra cheap to make, at least in terms of entertainment production values, or other such things without much heart behind them due to executives wanting easy and safe money.

I would rather pay for streaming service subscriptions that cots less than cable combined than just get cable. Besides, my WiiU has apps for them all, so I can still watch everything on my TV anyway.

On the tv I only watch the news. I used to watch a lot of cartoon network and I miss all the great cartoons that I saw on CN

TV is dead. Anything you can find on TV you can find online. There is literally no reason to even have one unless you are one of those sports people, and even then you are getting swindled with all those channels you don't even touch.

We have a Smart TV, and all we use it for is Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.

I like to watch Comedy Shows and Comedy acts like on RTL.

And in the afternoon i like to watch Cartoons on Comedy Central or Bernd the Bread on KiKa.

So...i still have a little things that i like to watch.

I also like this stupid fake Documentary Series ( No idea how to call them in english ) with the bad Actors. They always make shows, where a reporter Team films a Family or a group of People in their House or so, that have problems with each other.

Its made, like it would be real, but everything is fake.

But its still just funny and i like to watch those.

I dont know about bad stuff on the Tv, because i just dont watch much else.

The only stupid Channel i know off, is Beathe Buhse. Its just a tease.

Thats the best way i can describe it. Nothing against erotic, but it seems as though, almost everything they show, are random pornographic Videos, that they simply show, because they were easy to acquire and just blend everything out.

For me erotic is something different, than watching a close up of a wall, because they had to cut everything else away.

I just looks...dumb?

Also, sorry if i wasnt allowed to talk about that on here.

Not really... The only TV shows I'd watch I can find online or on Netflix (which I sadly do not have yet... :/). For example, you can find any episode of MLP:FiM on Dailymotion or most episodes can also be found at putlockers.ch (which is where I've been watching them recently because Dailymotion loads SO MANY ADS...)

I feel like a TV subscription today is almost completely pointless. Mainstream news is awful (I watch my news on YouTube, don't have to deal with NBC, CNN, or Fox), not too many shows that are coming out now are that great... I never cared about sports... I've even found better documentaries and educational shows on Youtube than I have on TV.

There are some good shows but most of them are on Hulu or Netflix now a days like everyone else has said. Sleepy Hollow is a pretty great show with 'fish out of water' humor, practical effects and a great story. It's a shame it's dying out when an actress's character died. I don't think that was the case, I think it's mostly because of the new villain. He's such a chode.

I miss the show "Almost Human", it was so good. :(

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm stuck watching TV land for the most part. I love the flash but I can't keep caught up. Rebels lost ahsoka and aren't going anywhere fast. And all the spooky shows are recycling locations :(

But I still have mlp and equestria girls @.@ thats..thats all. Need!

I often times rewatch mlp episodes on Netflix, and I have three of the four Equestria Girls on DVD, but LOE is on Netflix if you want to see it. but I have a guilty pleasure in watching Amazing World of Gumball and Teen titans Go.. I am a Teen Titans fan, and the abrasive comedy grew on me. The only channel on TV I watch aside from Discovery Family is CN. I do look Game of Thrones, and my brother had me watching vice before, it expanded some of my political interests, but regularly... I watch CN.(that includes AS, I love American Dad...) and Samurai Jack is back!
