Why I'm Still a Brony

My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Fluttershy

How did you find MLP Forums?: I just searched "MLP Forums" online.

How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Netflix.

My name's Alex and I'm a 27 year old guy from Salt Lake City, Utah. I'd like to talk about why I'm still a Brony and what being a Brony means to me.

I started watching MLP back in 2013 when a good friend started talking about the show. At first I teased him about it. "Ponies?" I'd say. "Really?" Then he'd say, "Yeah. Really." We were both in our 20's and I thought liking MLP was embarrassing and a little childish.

Then I was home alone with Netflix. I saw MLP on the list. "No one will know that I watched MLP," I thought, "I might watch one episode to see what this is about." Over time, it grew on me.

I'm still a Brony for a few reasons.

1. The show makes me laugh.

The writing is so cheesy sometimes but that's what I like about it (I.e. Nightmare Moon saying "You foals!" instead of "Fools!" in Ep. 1). Puns are awesome.

2. The community and show helps me be social.

I'm aware there are aspects of our community that are frowned upon by others: Pictures on the internet depicting our favorite characters doing base and awful things; the media who laughs at all the 20-somethings who enjoy a show about ponies; Brony cringe videos on YouTube. I even saw a petition on Change.org to cancel FIM.

But despite all the "nay" sayers, there's so much GOOD that comes from our community: I was able to reconnect to a High School friend, feel welcome at my first Comic Con, spend time with nieces and nephews, and laugh myself to tears while watching MLP with family and friends, all because of our community. I really appreciate the respect that you all show for each other. Even here in the forums, it's great to have a place online where I can have thoughts and not be attacked or bullied.

3. The show gets better over time.

4. Ponies are super cute. Seriously, the animation and collectibles are great.

To me, being a Brony means trying to be a good person. Saying hi to people, smiling, having respect. Being civil online. It reminds me of who I am and who I really want to be. The show and the community help me be a better person. That's ultimately why I'm still a Brony in 2017 and for the rest of my life.

And I know what you mean, I feel the exact same way about the show and the fandom  :squee:

I couldn't agree more. I still feel connected to MLP & EG. I've got all EG films. Yes, I'm a bit of a collector of plush and I have one Vinyl Funko collectible of Princess Luna. Being a brony this long has made me feel awkward at times, but I flick on the movies at times or an episode and I'm reminded why I'm still a brony.

Thanks for reading!

Nice! I don't have the plushes, but I've got a Vinyl Collectable of Derpy (pre-censored). That's cool you've got one of Luna. She's a good character.

I was also wondering why others were still Bronies, but it was 4am when I wrote about the topic, and I forgot to ask. So, I wanted to ask, despite feeling awkward at times, why are you still a Brony? And I still feel awkward at times too, but my conviction is stronger than those feelings. It almost sounds like a religion when talking about conviction, but it's true: I've had too many good experiences from the show and the community to let feeling uncomfortable (at times) stop me from being a Brony.

I worked at a call center a while back. There was a guy who had a booming voice, a beard, and a desk covered with pony stuff. If asked about himself, even in staff meetings, he'd tell everyone he was a Brony. I've always respected him for that. We became friends cause of our common ground with MLP.

As for me - I'm still a 'brony' (for two years now), because to this day I love ponies, their universe and I like browsing and listening to pony content (art, games, music etc.).

I don't care what others will think about me in regards of those 'weird' interests - I'm here, because I just want to be here.  :)

For a comparison it's the same as ponies, who love gaming, play games. I just do what I like, I guess.  :-P

That's really nice!  :kindness:

I agree too that hearty message there Cyniclese. There is nothing wrong with being interested still. Its not the age of the person, its how the person decides when to move on with life and seek other interests.

Besides I just came here because of that and well I was bored. _^'

Still welcome aboard and have a great time here!
