Which animation style, cut-out or frame-by-frame?

While it's not hand drawn, it's done as a frame by frame storyboard digitally using a program called Toon Boom Harmony.

 

It doesn't use puppets or vectors like Flash.

 

Actually it does. That's why I ask, because Harmony does both.

I'm pretty sure this one is the frame-by-frame version. The puppet version is usually reserved for TV shows.

 

Fair enough. I've always been interested in how the ponies would look while drawn frame-by-frame.

All we know is that they are using toon boom instead of flash. There aren't separate versions of toon boom for puppets and frame by frame animation. Toon boom does both, and so does flash.
