Was Big Macintosh's role in "Dungeons and Discords" Downplayed?

Although "Dungeons and Discords" was supposed to be the "Guys Night Out" thing. I somehow get the feeling that the whole thing didn't exactly live up to the potential that I would have wanted.

If anyone knows anything about what I have posted before. I've been pushing for further development of Big Macintosh since "Brotherhooves Social."

However despite Big Mac being among the 3 guys, I somehow got the feeling he was just along for the ride, and way too downplayed as I feel as though they were focusing mainly on Spike and Discord in the episode.

My guess is that it's because despite not being ponies, Spike and Discord are the "Main Males" of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. and Big Macintosh although being the most prominent stallion, is just a side character.

This somehow makes me want more "Guys Night Out" episodes. but with more male ponies involved as opposed to just Spike and Discord.

Do you feel that Big Macintosh was downplayed in "Dungeon's and Discords?"

No I don't think so... Discord as a elf, Spike as wizard and Mac as a dwarf/ dark knight so  this kind diversity have completed the fantasy ideal team.

I don't really think he had a super limited role in that episode.

I was pretty happy that he got an episode for character development in season 5, and I was pleasantly surprised he got another episode where he played a decently sized role in it.

Maybe I'm thinking that because most or all of the dialog was saved for Spike and Discord. Maybe I'm wrong.

why the hell does a character need dialogue to be a developed character? Look at Sombra!

BM is a Stallion of few words. He could easily be a developed character by body language alone. It's the fans who choose to view characterization by dialogue alone, and that's how they miss out.

Big Mac isn't a big talk like he used to, but he still had a big enough part! Even though his role was bigger in Where the Apple Lies, he still had a great role this time! His hysterical laughing was contagious! XD

I think the entire episode was downplayed in favor of Discord's tired antics. They focused far too much on Discord doing random nonsense and not on the idea itself, which was a fantastic one that we only saw a glimpse of at the end. The rest was massively disappointing.

I think the mixture of their characters was a good balance. That being said, I agree that more "guys night out" episodes with more males in the MLP community would be a good thing to do. Maybe some of the potential love interests of the Mane 6 could wander into them, Soarin (spelling?) and Flash for example. That'd be fun to see.

Not at all. He doesn't talk that much, so it looks limited. By the way, the episode is about Discord not about Spike and Big mac.

It's about all 3 of them. It's not JUST about Discord himself. It's these 3 characters playing a game together for guy's night! Its a guys episode! :3

True, it was a guys episode, but Spike and Big mac could have been other characters unlike Discord. He had to learn that lesson and that is where the episode is about.
