The convention has been cancelled.

Recommended Posts

For those on this forum who haven't heard the news yet, the convention has been cancelled. I swear to God, is there some kind of ridiculous curse that plagues Las Vegas for pony conventions?! First Unicon, now PonyExpo is gone?! What the f**k!

Well to be fair, the market is kind of flooded as far as ponycons go.

  • Bronycon
  • Ponyville Ciderfest
  • Whinny City Ponycon
  • Nightmare Nights Dallas
  • Everfree Northwest
  • BABScon
  • PoNYCon
  • Crystal Mountain Ponycon
  • Trotcon
  • BronyCAN
  • Equestria LA
  • Pacific Ponycon

And not to mention all the international ones. So maybe we've got too many and Vegas had to be the one to go.

This, basically supply vs demand and start-up costs and celebrities being divided on which ones to go to.

To be honest, Las Vegas is a VERY expensive city to host a convention in.  I do give the Bronies of Las Vegas a valiant effort to at least TRY and host a brony convention, but it just doesn't seem possible.

was any reason given as to why it got canceled? this is sad

From the website

We are disappointed to announce PonyExpo’s cancellation but pressing family and personal matters have made it impossible to deliver an event that would meet our attendees’ expectations.

My suggestion to them going forward is to plan around the sudden unavailability of even the most 'key' role. Complete collaborative efforts, mentor/mentee approaches, with strong structures, and staff fluidity in place tend to go a long way in avoiding these types of catastrophic collapses.

As mentioned before, the market is also over saturated with other pony conventions. Since these guys are just starting out, maybe it's best for them to instead partner up with an existing non ponycon in the area and ask to host events and panels there if there's time and space permitting.

Will there be one in 2018?

No, PonyExpo will not be returning; the organization has been dissolved.

There's a new convention coming to Las Vegas in 2018 if you're interested. It's called High Roller Pony Con and it's run by different people.
