What do you guys think would be the IDEAL portable gaming device? It's obvious that most people would want the highest quality/ largest screen possible without ofc compromising portability. I'm more curious about what design would you want the most to enhance your gaming experience.

Personally, I feel like most portable gaming devices have sacrificed ergonomic comfort for sleek & sexy designs. I'd love for a system that took the human hand into account when designing button placement and the like. Pretty much every option I listed in the poll have this problem (outside of the Gb-Gbc lines).  I would ideally want a clamshell design since it is so easy to scratch screens on the go, but the clamshell offers, by far, the most uncomfortable experience for my thin, bony hands e.e The Gba Sp seems to offer a significantly more comfortable button layout, but the narrow body limits the screen size... it's like an unsolvable problem for me xD

Anyway, I look forward to seeing your collective perspective on this matter. Do you have small, medium, large, fat, or bony hands/ fingers, and does this effect your comfort levels with particular systems?

The wide and thin approach is what I consider to be ideal. Having a large screen with the buttons and stuff to the side feels much nicer in my hands, even if I go out and buy a thing that's shaped like a controller to make it more ergonomic, like I did with my PSP and PS Vita.

The clamshell design works best (IMO) with the DS and 3DS since the extra width makes it more comfortable in my hands.

^Did you have any problems with the analogue "nub" placement on the original Psp models? I always found it to be a cramp inducing experience trying to use it for extended periods of time, like with GTA Liberty City Stories for example. I loved the "mushy" feel of the buttons and D-pad on the Psp tho. Felt so much better than the "clicky-clacky" and tiny little face buttons on the Vita. :o

Nope, my hand never did cramp or anything like that. I did have a have a silicone thing that went over it that had a textured concave surface to it, so that may be why. I much prefer the buttons on the Vita over the PSP since they have a nice tactile feel to them.

It seems like grips are essential for most portable gaming systems... I never had this problem with the Gb, Gbc, or even Gba Sp >.< (had a really cool charging grip for my normal Gba tho, that things was amazing).

The tactile buttons always turned me off on controllers. Feels cheap to me lol. The cushioned input response of buttons on the SNES controllers are some of my all time favorites. I take it you prefer stuff like 3ds buttons with very short travel and hard clicky feel, right?

It's not that I prefer short travel and a hard clicky feel, but having buttons that are mushy feeling can make the button presses not feel very definite.

I already have the perfect portable gaming device.

My skateboard is a 8" Smith and Wesson 64bit Cruisin' Cruiser/Lego custom, with cheesegrater attachment. It's also future-compatible with USB-C and a VHS player for when those make a comeback.

It's kind of hard to get it to start but it responds very well when spoken to in a stern voice.

I do not care the shape, so long as the graphics and games are good. There is only one thing I want out of a portable gaming device, and it is such:

BATTERY LIFE BATTERY LIFE BATTERY LIFE!

I hate having to be attached to a wall after only a few hours of in-depth gameplay, especially since I play RPGs.
