I haven't told any of my friends or family (directly) yet though, but that's mostly because they keep asking me if I'm gay, and I'm all about literal interpretation so I'll just answer no and leave it at that. Seriously though, if any of them asked me for my sexual preference as opposed to whether or not I'm gay I would just straight up tell them. However, Pansexual means that you like everything. That includes tranvestites, those who are both genders, or those who are gender fluid. It deals with gender as an intellectual construct, rather than a physiological trait. Personally, I used to think of myself as a 1.5 on the Kinsey Scale. Though, it could be related, since pansexuality is mostly about whether or not you consider sexual attraction as a physical thing.
