Ghalan walked forward and examined the cracks. "A great force hit this bridge," he muttered to himself but he heard the roar. He smirked as he reloaded his sword with his resin. He then pulled out his revolver. It was nice and a lightly engraved handle. he pulled out a canister of fire dust dipping his bullets into them. He looked at whatever was coming. He was calm as he then shot a tree making it catch fire. He was going to smoke it out or burn it which ever suited him just fine. He pulled out a spent shell casing.

Draco felt like he needed to reprimand the wolf faunus next to him, but figured that would be less of a priority than what waa heading their way. He knew what he was thinking, but it could pose a danger to the four should the fire spread to the grass.

What came out of the forest was a monster in every sense of the word. Towering at two stories in height, the beast had four armoured heads attatched to a four legged body by seperate necks. Bone plates acted as armor for the grimm as it knocked over trees as it they were saplings. The eyes of each head scanned the area, and it didn't take long for it to notoce the four hunters. The grimm seemed to study the four, before charging forwards.

"Yuki, Vince, aim for the necks and whatever parts of the body you can hit. Try to keep it disoriented through a hail of bullets and arrows. Ghalan, go nuts, but safely. Fire and skin don't exactly mix." Draco all but ordered before he charged forwards to intercept the grimm. When two of the heads lashed out at him, the dragon faunus jumped above the two and slashed at them with his sword and tail. While it didn't sever the heads, it most likely caused a good deal of pain if the ensuing roar was any indication.

Yuki nodded slightly and launched the arrow she had prepared at the head closest to where Draco was. While her weapon didn't have much in the way of cutting potential, it could pierce through a body if a shot went fast enough. "So, anyone else wondering why a grimm this size is so close to Vale?" She asked, hoping that the other grimm would ignore the fight.

Oh sweet golly what in the name of Atlas is that! Vince thought as the massive grimm monstrosity lumbered its way out of the forest and revealed its full form. Titanic would have been a very appropriate word to describe the multi-headed leviathan in front of Vince and his team. The individual heads (necks included!) were practically as large as one half of a king taijitu, armored to boot. Its heads scanned the environment in an efficient manner, almost hypnotic in how it moved. Eventually focusing its attention on the four its heads swiveled in the same direction and stared at the human/faunuses beneath it. The grimm began to charge soon after, with Ignis issuing orders to the rest of the party before launching himself at the grimm. Without any objections to Ignis' pretty sound orders Vince took a position parallel to Yuki and began firing controlled three-round bursts of fire dust rounds at exposed flesh around the necks of the grimm. Vince watched as two of the massive heads bore down on Ignis, with him skillfully dodging the attack and responding with his blade. Hearing Yuki's dialogue Vince responded as such. " Maybe the headmaster kept it around to challenge newcomers like us! You know...make us work real hard for our acceptance into his academy!"

Multiple red scorching marks littered around the necks of the grimm, and quite a couple of wounds caused by Yuki's weaponry were very apparent. Roaring in defiance the grimm launched its right forelimb towards Vince's position. With a grunt of annoyance the young huntsmen hurriedly rolled out of the way, barely dodging the monstrosities massive claws. How does a thing that big move that fast!?! Glancing at the miniature crater left by the monster Vince was even more assured that getting hit by that thing was going to end in disaster. Pushing himself up Vince noticed one of the heads arching back, hastily pulling his weapon he was about to fire a shot before he noticed the grimm's right forelimb being raised once more. It was only do to a sudden surge of adrenaline that Vince managed to leap on time to avoid the second attack. Jumping on top of the right forelimb Vince had saw the farthest left head launch itself at him. Being forced to act quickly Vince jumped into the air and delivered a surprisingly well timed spinning round house amplified by his aura, sending the monsters head into the opposite direction. Landing once more on the right forelimb Vince quickly hopped off and began peppering the grimm with rifle fire once more.

Draco jumped out of the way of one of the creatures head as his sword cut another gash in its armor. "I don't see why we wouldn't be made honorary hunters after this. I mean, a single person would more than likely die fighting this thing." Draco said, slowing down as he realized the gravity of what he just said. The fact that the four of them had gotten partners they actually knew before hand and had all gotten the same relic were astronomically low considering the fact that there had been well over fifty students that were launched into the forest. Sure death was common in the line of work they wanted to pursue, but this early? Was it neccessary? Of course, there was a good chance that no one had died. Heck, they could all be back at Beacon already, watching his friends and himself fight a massive grimm, but that didn't register in his mind. That being said, the dragon faunus was to deep in thought to notice the tail heading straight for him until it was to late. The resulting impact sent him into a tree and if it wasn't for his aura, his injuries would've been far worse. At the moment, his body just felt sore as he fell to the ground, his vision going dark. His weapon lay a few feet from him, and his sunglasses were cracked and practically falling off his face.

The grimm seemed pleased with what it had done and turned its attention the the two annoyances peppering it with ranged fire. The creature then knocked over one of the stone pillars, hoping to hit at least one of them with large chunks of the debris

Ghalan watched the grimm's movements. His mother was a ranger so she trained him to keep an eye on his surroundings.  He heated his blade up to where it could cut through armor. He looked at the beast and walked towards it slowly. He fired 5 more rounds into it and his bullets seemed to penetrate abit more deeply than the other's. His silver eyes was scanning the creature slowly. Ghalan then took off towards it's tail dodging bites from the damn thing. He then cut off the beast's tail. One weapon down.

"Draco!" Yuki had just finished firing another few arrows at the grimm before she had noticed that the dragon faunus that had become a leader of sorts for the group was unconcious. The fox faunus then rushed forwards and headed for Draco, shifting her weapon into a lance as she moved. While speed wasn't her semblance, carrying a large piece of metal helped keep her fit. It didn't take her long for her to reach him and checked to see if he was hurt. "His aura is somewhat depleted." She thought, knowing what to do. Yuki then placed a hand on Draco's neck and felt her aura flow into him, giving his skin a light glow.

Though Vince was busy firing at the grimm he tried his best to keep track of every person on the team, a difficult task considering there was a giant monster currently attacking him. But despite this problem Vince had managed to spot Ignis behind the grimm after his earlier engagement. To Vince's horror he saw the grimm's massive tail slam into Ignis and sending him flying into a tree which resulted in a resounding crack. I hope that was the tree making that noise "Ignis!" Vince had yelled as he saw his companion lay on the forest floor seemingly motionless. Vince's attention was diverted from his companion as he saw the grimm's massive arms knock down an ancient pillar at Yuki's and his position. He began moving, looking towards Yuki to see if she had done the same. To his surprise she was gone and already sprinting ahead of him towards Ignis' position. "Reckless girl..." Vince had muttered as he watched Yuki check up on Ignis, looking as if she wasn't aware of the grimm next to her.

Vince then saw Ghalan, the young aspiring huntsman had now known why Yuki was acting so seemingly reckless. The young man's blade was ablaze, similar to how the faunus had it while fighting the king taijitu. Could he heat up other things besides his blade with his semblance? Vince watched as Ghalan walked up to the grimm(dramatically) and fired five shots from his revolver. Right after doing so he began sprinting towards the grimm's rear, dodging the many attacks the monstrous grimm had attempted. In one fell swoop Ghalan had cleaved off the grimm's tail, a powerful roar of pain erupted from the grimm in response. Oh what the hell! No wonder that thing wasn't attacking Yuki. Vince had looked on to see Yuki grabbing a hold of Ignis, a faint glow surrounding his body. Was she transferring aura? You could do that? Vince didn't like the idea of Yuki risking herself to help Ignis. Instead of one fully powered companion, she traded it for two weakened ones, a dangerous trade off when facing a grimm like this. Vince decided it was best to just open fire on the grimm and let his team do what they think is right.

Ghalan wasn't done with his assault as he counter attacked a blow that sent his heated blade away.  By heating up his claws he shoved his right hand into the grim's chest and then ripped the other way with a visceral parry. black something came spraying onto him as he ran quickly away dodging . He rolled grabbing his sword He threw the heated blade. And he saw it embed the blade into the beast. He heard Vince firing his gun providing covering fire. Ghalan smirked as he grabbed hold of his blade and rammed it deeper into the beast. He began to heat the blade up even more with fire dust by igniting it causing an explosion around the the four heads to disorient it. "I'm the bigger threat here grim I am Alpha," he stated simply and calmly. Compared to what he did to the king Taijitsu this was brutal.

The grimm roared in pain as its body was burned and cut by the attacks of both Vince and Ghalan, as it fell to the ground. The injuries it had sustaned from the four were to much and the red/yellow glow in its eye seemed to dim and evetually fade out.

Draco groaned as he opened his eyes and noticed Yuki right next to him, the glow fading as the excess aura was used. "Whatever you did, it felt nice. Thanks." He said, giving a light smile. Of course, what she did most likely relied on their partners distracting the grimm and that was to much of a gamble for his taste. Making a point to talk to her about it later, the dragon faunus stood and collected his sword. He then disposed of his now broken sunglasses, revealing blood red eyes with vertical pupils. It didn't take him long to notice the dying grimm and he felt his body relax. "Well, glad that's over with."

Yuki gave a slight smile as she stood, but that dropped when she noticed tge dying grimm. She felt bad for leaving Vince and Ghalan to fend for themselves, but she wasn't about to let someone die when she could easily prevent it. Of course, using her semblance during a fight to heal put her at a slight risk and she probably would've been more useful helping the two she left to fight, but it was to late to turn back now.

Draco glanced at Yuki and sighed. It'd be better to get this out of the way now than to do it later. "I understand that you wanted to help me, but you also put Vince and Ghalan at risk. If they didn't have the skills they do now, things would've ended differently." He said

Vince's hands were becoming warmer and warmer the longer he had fired his rifle, though it wasn't as if his weapon was glowing a vibrant reddish orange. Vince thanked whoever manufactured his weapons cooling components. He hadn't stopped his fire, keeping up the concentrated waves of fire aimed towards the grimm's more exposed parts of its body. Dodging the occasional swipe from whatever appendage the grimm had available with a considerable amount of effort, luckily most of the grimm's attention was focused on Ghalan, letting Vince keep up his consistent fire with much less duress than what would have been expected from a grimm this size. Vince wasn't going to lie to himself, he wasn't at full strength and considerably tired. Mainly due to the attack from the king taijitu, but using his semblance and the consistent physical demand that was fighting grimm in general had made Vince tired. Aura, as we knew was a trait that is inherit to all living beings from humans to animals. It was a powerful tool, but only ever usable by those who trained heavily and fought extensively, hence why huntsmen were generally more capable than the average person. Unfortunately, Vince was young. Only being 17 and a student meant that his aura and endurance were comparatively weak to that of veteran huntsmen that had years of experience that Vince aspired to become.

Vince knew this better than anyone, humility and understanding of his capabilities and limits were heavily pointed out during his time at his Atlas combat school after all. But that didn't stop him from constantly attempting to push his boundaries. Something he had always kept around in his head, especially now considering he was actually fighting grimm with real risks. Fortunately, Vince was just tired and not collapse inducing exhausted, something Vince helped avoid by strategically minimizing his movements and using a ranged weapon. When he thought about it, he was wearing a full suit of outdated combat armor. Probably the main reason for why he was feeling more tired, this was the first time he was wore it into real combat without supervision. No wonder they replaced this suit, heats me up like a damn turkey in an oven. Vince continued his weapon fire, ignoring the numbing feeling in his hands. That's when Vince saw Ghalan go in, skillfully dodging the creature's blows before delving his fire covered hand into the creatures hide. Finishing off his attack by stabbing his blade into the beast, causing what seemed to be a miniature explosion with his dust. "Guess that settles it...lets head off to the cliff please," Vince had said through heavy breathes. Firing bursts from his rifle into the individual heads of the grimm, making sure it stayed down.

Ghalan looked at Draco and Yuki with a sigh. "reckless fools," he stated as he looked at the two of them. "did you even have a plan set up for that beast?" he asked as he crossed his arms as he winced slightly from afew burns on his hand. First time for everything. As his mind wasn't on the fight but on protecting his team. His silver eyes looked between the two of them and stated "You ran in and got knocked out Draco. Yuki you left your teammates to cater to the dragon faunus," Ghalan said his voice cold as the arctic winds. "I'm very disappointed in you now come let us return to the school so that I can treat my hand," he stated simply. "Vince thank you for the covering fire," he said slightly. his tail swayed slowly. "Hmm mark 5 atlas armor but the mark 6 has an internal fan," Ghalan said humming slightly.

Draco glanced at Ghalan, but didn't show any emotion. He knew the risks of using only a melee weapon, but his semblance also made him one of the hardest beings to hit if they weren't faster than him. Contrary to popular belief, though, he wasn't invincible. "No one's perfect on their first day. That's why we're here. Yes, Yuki screwed up by abandoning both of you, but up until that point, she followed orders and stayed at range. If anythung, that just shows that she cares about those close to her. As for me, I got distracted. That's the only reason I got hit."  He said, before sheathing his sword and walking towards the cliff. The only sign of his mild irritation was the rigidness of his tail.

Yuki's ears flattened against her head at Ghalan's harsh, yet expected criticism. and felt a pit form in her stomach At the very least, she managed to find some comfort in Draco's words, but not much. It didn't really matter anyway. She had messed up and that had just caused more friction in the group. At that moment, she made a silent promise to herself and her team to improve her abilities.

(2 hours later)

After climbing up the cliff and returning to the academy via bullhead, Draco and his friends were ushered to the ballroom the students had gathered in the day before. As it turns out, they were actually the last team out of the forest. Either way, the dragon faunus was curious as to how Ozpin would name their team and decide their leader. Yuki was good with a weapon, but like he and Ghalan said, she had abandoned her teammates to help him. That eliminated her as an option almost immediately. Ghalan had managed to piss off more than a few students the day before and had shown a level of brutality that was troubling to say the least, so that decreased his chances, if only slightly. Vince had a good tactical mind, but he wasn't sure if him leading a team otherwise comprised of faunus would cause some political issue. People were more sensative now more than ever and with the lack of faunus team leaders thus far, he wouldn't put it past said population to cause an uproar should word spread. Then, there was him. Sure he was one of the fastest people alive and was good with a sword, but he had his own problems hidden behind a mask of his current personality that might cause problems when it eventually broke. All in all, it was a roll of the dice at this point.

"Yuki Ryusaki, Ghalan Chromwell, Vince Aurelius, Draco Ignis. You four retrieved both of the white rook pieces and successfully killed one of the largest grimm in the emerald forest, along with many others." Ozpin said, letting a wave of both surprise and excitment rush through the student body. Of course, there was also a bit of apprehension, but those that felt in such a way decided to remain silent. After a few seconds, the headmaster of Beacon decided to continue. "Trying to decide on this team was possibly one of the hardest things I have had the pleasure of doing in a long time. With that being said, from this day forward, you four shall be known as team DARC (Dark), led by... Draco Ignis." Whether the pause was for dramatic effect or if he recognized the name in some way was unknown to anyone.

What was certain was that the dragon faunus was surprised to say the least. He wasn't sure if the headmaster of Beacon was being serious or if this was just some sort of mistake. One thing was certain, though, he wasn't about to disappoint. "Might as well see where this goes." He thought to himself, taking the chess piece when Ozpin held it out to him.

Yuki was just as surprised as Draco with the revelation of who would lead their team, not that she wanted the position. She probably would've cracked under the pressure. The fox faunus was also curious as to why Draco didn't want to be referred by his first name, but decided to ignore that little fact. "Congrats, Draco." She said, giving a light smile.

Vince had ripped off his helmet and inhaled the fresh air, wiping off the sweat that trickled down from his forehead. Taking a moment to enjoy the freshness of the air and the feeling of not being stuffed inside of the black helmet he had worn. In his momentary pleasure and relief he had barely noticed his teammates, or to be more accurate Ghalan's complaints. To sum up his complaints Ghalan had been unsatisfied with both Yuki's and Ignis' actions, criticizing Yuki's decision to rush to Ignis' aid and pointing out how Ignis' lack of plan and recklessness had endangered himself. If Vince were to say anything to the three he would admit that Ghalan had fair points and were actually legitimate claims. Though Vince disagreed with Yuki's and ignis' actions he at least understood why they did what they did. Yuki doing so cause of her caring nature and the fact that one of her friends was in danger. Ignis, at least from what Vince could deduce was that his mistake was underestimating his own capabilities as well as the grimm they had fought. After all, even Vince hadn't known a grimm like this existed. Vince thought of this and what was the best thing for him to say in the scenario he observed, while watching the massive body of the grimm slowly dissipate into nothingness.

Ignis had responded stoically, explaining why both Yuki and him made the mistakes they did, and generally justifying their actions and how everyone made mistakes and that it was okay to do so at their current level. Yuki had stayed silent throughout the whole exchange, but it was obvious she was taking the entire thing to heart considering her body language(ears). After that Ignis and Ghalan had left it off at that and chose to hurry on and begin the trip back to the cliff. Vince glanced at Yuki with worried eyes before slipping his helmet back on and following the other two. Vince hadn't known what to say, he didn't feel like he had any personal stake in the current conversation. Though Vince did have criticisms for everyone in the group as well, he was simply happy they all got out alive and seemed to learn from their mistakes. Before he could come up with anything to say Ghalan had suddenly complimented his actions during the battle and made note of his atlesian combat armor. "I just do what I think is for the best, not that I always get it right. But nice to see someone else keeping an interest in equipment, though I'm sad to say the mark 6 doesn't have a fan. Common misconception for sure, the armor is just made up of lighter material and they no longer armor up the full body, lets the air flow in better." Vince had explained, thankful that the topic changed to a much more lighter tone.

Fortunately for the team the only resistance they had encountered on the way back were a few beowolves that were quickly dispatched by Vince's rifle fire and quick reflexes. He didn't want to add anything else on top of everything the others had faced today, the least he could do was let the others take it easy. It took quite a while but in due time the team had made it to the cliff face, scaling it with a bit of a hassle and reaching the top. To Vince's surprise they were the only ones there, both Ozpin and Glynda patiently awaiting them. Vince had recalled not hearing any more distant noise on the way back, the fact that they were the last team to make it back just came to him. Not bothering to say anything and simply nodding his head at his possible future instructors Vince and the rest of his team stepped into the bullhead that was provided and headed back to Beacon.

Vince had soon found himself standing at attention on a stage alongside his team and a few others as well. At this moment the teams would be announced and leaders were chosen. Those who had not been announced or have already been were watching in mass below the stage, curiously waiting for the teams to be officially announced, with quite a few already being named. After Ozpin's brief statement he had announced the team Vince would be a part of, team DARC. The leader was to be Ignis, something Vince had been surprised about. It was hard for Vince to be a downer due to the loud cheers and clapping, wanting to go with the mood Vince simply smiled and looked at his teammates. "Guess that means we'll be bunk mates for the next few years huh?" He had said to Ghalan and Yuki as he watched Ignis step up to Ozpin. This is it, I made it. Officially I am now a huntsmen, at least a student I guess. Proved you wrong cousin, I proved you wrong indeed. Deep in thought Vince had barely noticed that he had shed a tear.

Ghalan said as he looked at Draco with abit of sarcasm iun his voice "Do try and not get knocked out again," he walked away. "And Yuki try not to be reckless," he stated jokingly as he walked away his hands in his jacket pocket. He was humming to himself an old song. He walked towards their assigned room with a chuckle. He placed ear buds into his ears to listen to some music. He needed to calm down finding a quiet place to hide. He found it in a nice tree near their room. He sat onto a strong branch as he played the song. He closed his silver eyes as his tail hanged swayed back and forth. Ghalan let out a small tear from his eyes as he listened.

Draco sighed as he watched students file out of the ballroom and glanced at the other two members of his team. He had noticed Ghalan leave as well, but didn't exactly stop him. "Our bags should've been delivered to our room." He said, glancing at the human and fox faunus. Thankfully, they had gotten a room assignment prior to the ceremony, so it didn't take that long to get where they needed to be.

When the dragon faunus entered the room itself, he noticed that it had a decent sized living area with a balcony and four lockers, each containing their luggage. Thankfully, the room itself was furnished so they wouldn't have to spend any lien off the bat. The bed room had a window, four beds, and a door that led to a emergency ladder and the balcony. The bathroom had a set of fur sinks and cabinets, along with three showers and toilet cubicles. In short, the entire room was designed to house four people.

Draco's eyes narrowed at the beds and it didn't take him long to pick the one farthest from the window and living room door, figuring that someone else would probably want the window. The dragon faunus then set the suitcase on his bed and opened it, revealing a few sets of clothes, standard toiletries and school supplies, what looked like a large chunk of metal similar to what Hakume was made of, and a black, leather bound journal that looked a little worse for wear. After putting his toiletries into their respective cabinet, and placing his journal on top of the bedside cabinet, he closed his suitcase and put it under his bed, saving the metal for later use and figuring that he'd just use it as a mock dresser. Draco then turned his full attention to the bed he had selected. "Might as well make myself at home, I guess." He thought to himself. The dragon faunus then went to work rigging the sheets into a hammock that hung from the ceiling. Of course, he pushed the mattress against the wall, should he accidentally fall out of his new sleeping arrangment in the middle of the night.

(This is the closest thing I could get to a decent floor plan for the rooms. Thankfully, it's not as cramped as the one in the actual series. http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/rwby/images/4/49/RWBY_Dorm_Base.png/revision/latest?cb=20130908213742 )

Yuki was surprised by the size of the room and walked around for a bit, curious to say the least. It didn't take long for the fox faunus to notice the hammock Draco had made out of his bed sheets. Either way, she claimed the bed across from him and unpacked everything she had brought. Aside from standard toiletries, clothes, and school supplies, she also had a few books and an violet ocarina. After putting everything where she wanted, the fox faunus laid on the bed and felt her bidy relax. "This is nice." She said.

Co-ed? Man, what kinds of trouble do the kids at this school get when they have free time? Vince gave it a thought as he compared it to the gender separated regulations of his combat school. Not wanting to think about what pheromone driven teenagers/young adults could find themselves doing Vince decided to focus on what Yuki had suggested, that is to unpack the luggage they had brought with them to Beacon. "Good point, lets get on it once this whole ceremony is done," Vince had said to Yuki as he groaned internally. I guess I gotta make a call to my aunt. Vince thought as he remembered leaving most of his luxuries back at his aunt's home and only listed the bare essentials to be shipped off to Beacon. With that on his mind Ignis had coincidentally mentioned that their luggage were sent to the dorm room assigned to them at an earlier date, not that Vince had any recollection of that what so ever. Sooner or later the students dispersed from the auditorium and headed off to their assigned dorms. To either get settled in or simply relax after the stressful trial that they had faced earlier. Which it seemed to Vince that Ghalan decided to do, as he left the three and went off to do his own thing.

Following Yuki and Ignis to their new room Vince had politely passed a few other students who were in a similar situation. The halls were to Vince's liking, simple aesthetic while keeping a clean and neat appearance. The red carpet was fairly attractive to Vince as well, at least they looked red to him. "Whoever was the interior decorator deserves a medal or something, didn't think a school would look so appealing." Vince stated as the others opened the door to their dorm room. To his surprise the room itself was roomy, housing enough space for four people and additional facilities on top of it. "This seems more like a hotel room than a school dormitory don't you guys think?" Vince had asked as he found his suitcase among the others. Seeing the other two setting their suitcases on beds they claimed Vince had done the same, he chose the bed closest to the door. Unpacking, Vince had looked off to find Ignis creating some form of hammock out of his bed sheets, tossing the mattress on the floor. He honestly had no comment, what words could possibly justify that? Looking through his case he had found one or two sets of spare clothes, minimal hygiene supplies, parts for his equipment, and a few writing utensils. Besides that there was his scroll that he didn't trust himself with what so ever on the field. With everyone getting settled in Vince had wanted to do the same, sitting himself down on his bed and removing his armor. Doing this he wondered what he would look like in a school uniform.

Draco glanced at Ghalan as he moved into his new hammock and shrugged. "It'd have to be if they wanted to comfortably house four people in here. I mean, could you imagine if this was all we had?" He asked, gesturing to the bedroom in general as he used his tail rest his sword against his cabinet. "Anyway, classes should start tomorrow, so we have the rest of the day to get ready. Any ideas?"
