Complete the sentence 'for every positive epsilon...'

For every positive epsilon, there is another positive epsilon lower in value.

48 minutes ago, Cyralicious said:

What is the sum of all natural numbers?

Infinity.

The argument that claims to prove that such a sum equals -1/12 is a result of taking Euler's zeta function (which diverges to infinity for all x < 0) to be exactly equal to Riemann's zeta function (which converges to a finite value for all values of x, including negative values), when in reality they only take the same values for x >/= 0.

The Casimir effect's blurring of the line between the two functions confused matters somewhat, but the sum definitely equals infinity.

In what sense do you mean the statement that time is a construct of human perception?

1. For every positive epsilon there exists a positive delta* - by the notion of limit.

2. I know it's sort of a mathematical joke, our math professor here at my uni told us that joke even though I knew it already (thanks to numberphile) and I was the only one who knew the joke, everyone else was staring at the board like "what the heck..?"

Suppose you have a calendar such as the one seen here. If you picked out a square of four dates whose numbers sum to 72, what is the largest number you could include while accomplishing this feat?

Can it be a big square or does it have to be a 2x2 square?

Well, yeah, I didn't want to give you a cliché epsilon-delta calculus response so I came up with an original equally-mathematically-valid sentence ending. :mustache:

Hempel's paradox is one of my favourite twists of logic; really throws people for a loop when I describe it to them. :P

I haven't heard about the Hempel's paradox but I'm curious about it so I'm gonna search it up.

I'm implying the geometric series while using the argument why can't the sum of all natural numbers be -1/12, you can get the digit while breaking the rule that |q| < 1

in the formula S = a / (1-q)

2x2 square, i.e. 1, 2, 8, and 9 when the 1st of the month does not fall on a Sunday.

N + (N - 1) + (N - 7) + (N - 8) = 72, where N denotes the largest number possible within any given 2x2 square.

4N - 16 = 72  =>  N = 88/4 = 22.

The highest number possible in any given square is 22, because there is only one unique square that meets the constraints:

14     15

21     22

That's actually not correct - I knew you would craft a perfect equation so I had to get a bit sneaky :orly:

Also my pesky sense of honesty obliges me to confess - I actually thought the answer was the 28 from February :please: I never considered the effects of 30 day months. Props to you for that

Well, neither are in any way conducive to consciousness, but I'd rather become a highly advanced piece of technology than a rabid animal, if only because as a piece of technology I'd serve a purpose.

Dr. Strange, so I could write down/photocopy as much of his knowledge/literature of magic/exotic physics that I can in a single day and then salivate over it at my leisure.

The Crystal Empire, most likely.

Ponyville seems to perpetually invite destruction and Canterlot has developed a recent habit of being invaded; they don't really have a high enough quality of real estate to make the life insurance bills a sustainable cost.

The so-called 'chemical compound' pictures are literally just doodles of geometric patterns.

There's so many chemical compounds in existence that you could doodle pretty much any repeating regular pattern and have it arguably depict one or more of them.

It hasn't turned up any tangible evidence of paranormal activity in the several decades since it was bought by a scientific institute to study exactly such phenomena, so I doubt there'd be much point in me doing so.
