Find the equation of a second circle of radius 2r in terms of r, given that it passes through the lower two adjacent intersections of the r-radius circle and the inscribed hexagon. If you're not the word-problem type, it looks like this: This should be incredibly basic trigonometry, and it greatly irks and vaguely embarrasses me that I haven't been able to solve it properly. I came up with a fairly rigorous and well-generalised trigonometrical solution, but, when I tried to graph the whole problem using a piece of maths software that I've used to great effect in the past, the second circle (the one whose equation I calculated) didn't line up with the intersections of the smaller circle and the hexagon. All mai maths broken. Fix thems for me Frosty. If you were looking for nifty maths problems I've done that give you an idea of how proficient in maths I am, I did this one really great calculus problem way back in my last year of high school that went like so: If you have a circular sheet of radius r, cut a pizza-slice segment out of it of angle A, and fold up the sheet so the cut edges meet to form a cone, what value of angle A will give you the maximum volume for your cone? This question was the highest-level problem in the book for differentiation, so attempt at your own risk. Aside from the aforementioned, it's rather hard to find maths problems that are challenging yet intriguingly simple in concept, and I only do maths problems that are challenging yet intriguingly simple in concept because I only do maths problems for fun - the problems that I do in my tertiary study course are just physics problems in the context of engineering. Would you rather fight a giant spider or a giant scorpion? 9. What word do you wish you could use more often?
