movies/tv Movie/TV show genres you can't get into

Some genres of movies can be tough to get into, depending on who you are. We all have preferred genres and different tastes. Sometimes, there are genres that we just cannot get into for whatever reason. That's this thread's whole dealio! Are there an movie or show genres that can't pull you in?

For me, one of those is love films or shows. I cannot ever get into these. Love is a beautiful thing when treated right and yet, these types of movies or shows never catch my interest. For me, they tend to come across as forced or featuring bad storylines, even with good acting at the helm.

Hard to say, as I hardly watch tv nowadays. Hay, I didn't even installed cable tv in my new home :dash: . But surely I don't like a couple of things:

1-Anime: lost interest on it years ago. Dunno why

2-Romance: most of these are unrealistic, overidealistic, and don't usually bother with actual chemistry. Worst offenders are the romantic comedy ones

3-G rates comedies: exaggerated slapstick, bunch of dudes screaming, gratituous sex jokes, etc. Adam Sandler is the main offender of those

I'm such an animation nut that it's hard for me to get into anything live-action, which I know sounds insane. They just aren't my thing.(strangely, this only applies to TV shows)

Also sports, unless it's wrestling, the World Cup, or the big game(World Series, Super Bowl) then I don't give a shit really

Horror's pretty tough for me to get into, and it's mostly because the vast majority of it sucks. Most of it relies too heavily on jump scares. Jump scares can be done well. Alien proved that. Body horror is probably the only horror subgenre that I love.

On the other side of the spectrum, harem anime. I've tried to get into it since I've heard of a lot of good ones, but I haven't seen a single one that's kept my interest. It's probably because there's just too many characters for a romance.

Legal dramas. Save a few rare gems, I just can't get into them in general. Modern horror is also an issue for me. Atmosphere and suspense are far more important to me that fast cuts or gore.

Horror movies. I already have anxiety so why would I watch a movie to give me more anxiety? XD

Soap operas. They're too... dramatic! "Johny, you're cheating on me?!" *OVER-DRAMATIC SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYS* *Johny just stares with a blank expression*

For those who are not into anime, the problem might be the type of anime you're watching. I personally love comedy/slice of life animes. They really crack me up. :D Some examples:"Wagnaria!!", "Hyakko", "Watamote" (warning: edgy).

I am the same way, mostly. I love Star Trek, which is live action. I have a ban on live action, but I have lifted sanctions on some 1980s movies.

I pretty much can't watch live action. But I especially hate horror. It is all mindless gore or stupid jump scares.

So many people who don't like horror.  I'm starting to feel like an outcast here. XD

Just wanna say this, but It's easiest to enjoy horror when you're mostly into the characters, rather than the movies (referring specifically to the horror character here, not whatever others there are in the movie). It's best when the character and the movie it's in is good, but I find that I can enjoy horror even when the majority of movies in the genre suck nowadays because I just love the different concepts and horror characters themselves. For example, I've made it through several of the SAW movies (though they're more thriller than horror) even though I hate gore and the movies aren't all that good, purely because John Kramer is a really interesting character to me.

Anime, anything revolving around love, most older films, horror games / movies and G1-3 :mustache:

No horror at all?!

Do have to agree with that. Unfortunately a good majority of it does suck.

Agree with this 100%. Horror that's based on atmosphere and suspense is the best kind.

It's funny, I have anxiety really bad too, but somehow I just can't force myself to stay away from horror since I love it so much. XD

Not all horror is like that. The Conjuring movies, for example. Not based on jump scares or gore of any kind.

Anyways, the ones that come to mind are romance (which, in my opinion, seems to work better when it's worked into a plot, rather than being the sole focus of the plot), almost anything sports (which I typically find really boring), and anime. Oh, and soap operas. *Cringe*

There might be more, but those are the ones that currently come to mind.

Anime is such broad term as it has many genres and sub-genres. There is something for everyone, if you look. Then again, some people just aren't into anime and that is okay too.

I for one am not a big fan of the sports genre of anime. I could never see myself getting into anime like Prince of Tennis or Eyeshield 21. I mean have seen some that are considered sports like Initial D and Keijo(I know it's not really a sport, but I imagine it shares a lot in common with the genre).

Horror movies. I just can't handle watching them under any circumstances because of how graphical they can get. If I were to watch one, I am bound to have nightmares for weeks as a result.

I physically cannot bear to stomach anime. I find it incredibly dull and same-y, lacking in variation and innovation and I find that it takes itself way too seriously. And if there is one type of person that I cannot stand, it's those that take themselves way too seriously. It's nothing personal, I just don't like it.

It's always been hard for me to get into anime or sports programs anything live action is hard for me, too  I can't picture myself watching something like pretty little liars or dance moms LOL but I definitely watch shows like SpongeBob or Steven universe the only reason I don't like anime is because it's really harsh and inappropriate

Up until rather recently when I decided to watch Young Justice on Netflix, I never was really able to get into Superhero cartoons before.

I was never really all that interested into superheros in general, up until 2015/2016 when I decided to give the Marvel Cinematic Universe a chance and watched all the movies leading up to Civil War.

Besides that, I just am not really all that interested in sports very much.

Let's see, thats a pretty long list for me:

Any sitcom outside of Seinfeld and Scrubs

All reality shows

All court shows

All pretentious pseudo-dramas

All soap operas

Any tween-pandering live action show outside of Drake & Josh

For animation:

99% of all modern day anime

All "Adult" cartoons

95% of all cartoons aimed at young children

New age, CGI animated shows of all types

For movies:

Romantic Comedies <--- oh God please no

Paranormal bullshit "based on a true story" movies

Any movie in general that uses "based on a true story" to gain relevancy from the public

Torture Porn

Normal Porn

Erotica in general

Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, The Mummy, etc (anything to do with finding ancient artifacts in tombs or that kinda deal >.<)

Horror movies that take themselves too seriously

Horror movies that don't take themselves seriously enough

Horror movies that focus more on gross out than actually building up atmosphere and scares

Horror movies that rely on jumpscares

So yes, basically like 99.9% of modern day horror movies xD

Political pandering movies

85% of religious movies

Generic action movies (car chases, heists, etc bleh so boring)

So, what do I actually like?? Nothing? Well, not quite lol, I like a few things:

Psychological Thriller movies

B-Horror movies like Nightmare on Elm Street

Kaiju movies like Godzilla, Gamera, etc

Mature anime with high impact narrative elements that keep you constantly guessing while on the edge of your seat (Death Note, Elfen Lied, Higurashi, etc /)^3^(\ )

Beautiful, colorful cartoons with a large emphasis on world building, lore, fantastical elements, fluid animation, non annoying voice acting >.>

Horror, Nickelodeon tween sitcoms, and reality shows all make me cringe. Especially reality. I vow to never watch an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Though a few shows like Little People, Big World are tolerable (I was watching before Matt and Amy's marriage fell apart), I generally can't stand the genre.

Horror. I never enjoyed watching them, mostly cause they try scaring you instead of actually trying to tell a story.
