Jillian almost feel asleep while tanning, but the sound of her dog Miku barking at Jake woke her up.

"Miku! Bad puppy!" She called, while petting him.

He was a cute Shiba Inu.

Jillian smiled down at him and kissed his head- showing kindness that no one else had ever been offered.

Except Caleb.

But he was not someone she wanted to think about.

Miku was wagging his tail and looking at Jake, and his tail knocked Jillian's bust over.

Luckily, it didn't break, but it rolled out to where Jake could see it.

As Jillian reached for it, Jake turned.

"Uh-Uhm.."

Jillian couldn't say anything.

She just stood, frozen.

Jake saw the bust, and couldn't help but become curious. He walked over and got down on a knee to inspect it. He had to admit, it was very well done.

He gave a small smile and chuckled lightly, "Are my ears really that big?" he asked playfully, handing her the bust. He wasn't sure why, but he didn't feel it was right to be rude or snide to her, so he wasn't.

Jillian's face was a deep red.

"N-No.. Your ears are not that big.. I- I'm just a sucky artist.."

She whispered, grabbing the bust from him softly.

She turned quickly and grabbed her things, then went inside and buried her face in her pillow.

How mortifying.

Jake didn't know how he was feeling, part of him was pleasantly confused while another part was tentative as to how she felt about him. He only knew her as the mean rich girl, who only cared about herself, but this sudden reaction from her left him speechless. She never acted this way toward him in such a manner, and he could tell it was genuine, not some act like she used for other guys. <Bah why do I care? She has that pencil neck womanizer new kid taking her to prom... so why am I still thinking about it?> he sighed and went back to work, finished with the mulch and began trimming hedges. "She's anything BUT a sucky artist I'll admit that." he muttered. As he worked he began to hum a tune, which turned to silent singing...

"If I had to,

I would put myself right beside you,

So let me ask,

Do you like that? Do you like that?

There's a fine line,

Between love and hate,

And I don't mind,

Just let me say,

That I like that, I like that..."

He loved Breaking Benjamine, that was his favorite song, Diary of Jane.

Jillian had gone back outside to look at what Jake was working on.

She heard him humming/singing a song, and once she realized what it was, she started humming back without realizing it.

Soon she was playing it on her cell phone, loud and clear.

Miku came outside and ran up to Jake, where he then began to lick his hands.

"Miku!" Jillian ran to catch him, but she noticed that Miku wasn't going to leave Jake's side.

She sighed and sat down on the soft grass.

Today was a tiring day.

Jake smiled as th dog ran toward him, and crouched down to pet it. It was rather friendly, an hyper, but he didn't mind. He had a great Dane back at home, almost as tall as him on her hind legs. He noticed that Jillian had gone after her dog, so he got up and walked to her, the dog following. "Cute dog" he told her, finding it somewhat strange that he was being so nice to her. He was always nice to people, but it was still strange considering who it was he was speaking with. He then heard the music and raised an eyebrow, "You listen to Breaking Benjamin?" he asked with a hint of a smile.

Jillian smiled- a genunie smile.

"Yeah, I love him. He's been my baby since forever. He's not a puppy anymore, but I still call him one."

Miku trotted up to her and she leaned down to give him kisses.

"Who's my baby?" She said and hugged him.

Miku licked her face and she laughed.

"I- umm. Do you want something to drink?" Jillian asked, noticing Jake's sweat drenched body.

Jake was surprised by the way she acted. It was as if there was a completely different side to her that he never saw. He couldn't help but to admire it.

When asked for a drink he realized how thirsty he was, having drained his last water bottle ages ago. "That... that'd be nice" he said to her. <Wow, three minutes into a conversation an she hasnt said anything rude or snide. Who is she and what has she done with the Jillian I knew all these years?> he thought, though he felt this was... nice to be able to actually talk with her for once.

((Whoooooa I am REALLY far behind on the time-line))

Kya sighed, got up, and prepared for work. She didn't really hate it, it's just that her boss was like Jillian, rude, unbearable, and downright EVIL.

She put on her uniform and then slipped on her father's old army jacket. She picked up a pictureframe, holding a picture of Kya and her late family. Her brother, her mother, and her father. She hugged the picture for a moment, then set it back down on the crate next to her sleeping back. And with that, she headed off to work.

Jillian waved Jake inside and poured him a glass of ice cold lemonade.

"It's home made. By me, of course. My mom doesn't come in the kitchen."

She laughed.

"I hope it's not too sour. My Grandma taught me how to make it, but I'm not very good.."

She poured herself a glass too and sipped it politely.

"So- Um, wou-would you like to have the bust that I made?"

She asked quietly, looking at the floor.

Jake took a long drink from the lemonade, it was delicious. "You kidding? This stuff is amazing" he said with a smile. When asked about the bust, he too looked at the ground, "R-really? You want me to have it? How come?" he asked. As nice as it was that she was actually being nice for once, he couldn't help but be curious, if she had a crush on him, why did she always act so mean? And did he return the feeling? After all the spiteful things she had done to not just him, but everyone?

Jillian smiled. "Thank you. You're the only person besides me and Sa- um... Me, that's drank it."

She smiled.

When he asked about the bust, she blushed.

"Um, I mean- it's of you.. And I don't have any use for it. It was- um, just for art... so.."

She took another drink of her lemonade.

It was a bit awkward in here.

Flika Phillips rolled out of bed following her after-school nap. She ran her tongue across her teeth "Ugh, slimy." She thought as she headed straight to the washroom to brush her teeth and hair. She splashed some cold water on her face, applied a thin layer of mascara, and twisted her hair into a low bun. She walked to the window and smiled at the sunlight still streaming through "I didn't waste my whole afternoon at least." She thought as she headed downstairs past her mother and father doing crosswords at the table in the front hall and toward the door.

"Flika! Can you come here for a moment?" Her father called without removing his eyes from the paper. "We received a call from the school that you have switched from AP Physics to Advanced stream. You know that is unacceptable. Your mother and I have talked about this."

Flick sighed and made a conscious effort not to roll her eyes at her father's insane expectations for her. "It's just that this year I'm the only photographer on staff for both yearbook and the paper so that work has increased and Advanced Placement just isn't feasible anymore, Dad. Advanced should be good enough. I still qualify for university entrance I just won't start with extra first year credits."

"Photography is not a proper undertaking for a useful, and responsible member of society, and post-secondary institutions have more rigorous standards than before. I guarantee you that Monroe girl is taking Advanced Placement classes."

At this Flick could not help but role her eyes. She had grown up in a beautiful, rich, neighbourhood and both of her parents were very successful. Her father was CFO of a multinational corporation and her mother headed the R&D department for the very same company. They had no understanding or appreciation for Flick's passion or her talent. They simply wanted her to follow a similar path to theirs. Flick knew there was no arguing "I'll try and switch back," she reassured her father with a smile."My spot is probably already taken anyway." Flick's father nodded her dismissal and Flick headed out into the afternoon sun.

Once outside she saw Jillian speaking to Jake across the street. She was familiar with both of them not only because she had grown up with them but because Jillian was the teen princess of the school and Jake was an athlete so they were both in their fair share of yearbook, and school paper shots. Flick smiled across the street at them but did not wave or call out. They weren't close after all and the two of them looked like they were getting along... for a change.

Flick carefully set her camera bag in the passenger seat of the black 2012 dodge charger that she was given for her sixteenth birthday and slid in herself. She turned on the station that advertised a playlist of "80s, 90s, and whatever" (variety is the spice of life) and pulled out of her driveway to head toward the skate park. Hopefully, she could get some good shots of the skaters to go with the piece one of the reporters was running on the skate ban downtown.

The day had whizzed past Nolan. He had already arrived home. His mum was out in the garden tending to the garden and his brother along with his dad were throwing a football in a nearby park. Nolan wave his hand.

"Hi, Fluttershy. Hello Gordon, good to see you guys were able to find each other, I didn't know you guys knew where my house was."

"A little birdy told me," a shy Fluttershy replied. Gordon nodded.

"Well come on in, you can ignore mum and dad by the way, they're just mucking about.

"That's nice."

Nolan walked upstairs followed by Gordon and Fluttershy, who happened to be flying.

Well this is my room, my neat little room. Gordon walked into a plain room, with a plain white bed and a closet that also happened to be plain white. Nolan walked to his computer, which has a bright pink. He had many a sticker of Fluttershy on his CPU it and the whole set up had cost him a thousand dollars, each piece of hardware tailored to his liking. He began to show Fluttershy and Gordon around his computer filled with ponies and various games. Fluttershy mouth reached the floor, literally, whereas Gordon, who was clearly not impressed, just stood there.

"So what do you guys want to do?" Nolan asked.

"Maybe we could go out to watch the birdies? If you want..."

Nolan didn't want to but he had to make a good first impression.

"Sure." Fluttershy made her way to the window.

"Umm, Fluttershy? Oh wait, you're a pegasus. Silly me. I'll meet you downstairs."

Nolan met Fluttershy downstairs while being followed by Gordon. The trio walked to the park, while making polite conversation, Gordon as per usual didn't say a word.

As they arrived, Nolan ignored his dad and brother and sat down on the grass next to Fluttershy. Fluttershy sat down next to Fluttershy and began to talk, slowly more birds approached the pony and Fluttershy began to whistle, it was a calming whistle, and a sense of peace overflowed Nolan. He lay his head on Fluttershy and was beginning to sleep, Fluttershy enthralled by all the birds surrounding her, didn't notice Nolan. Nolan nodded off by the time Fluttershy noticed. Embarrassed, she ran off and Gordon followed. Nolan lay on thee grass, alone waiting for the day to pass by.

Jake sighed, "Ever since... today... I've been, curious. If it was true you had a... crush... on me, then why do you act the way you do? Ever since middle school you've done nothing but give me hell. Now all this has come about and I fell very... confused..."

Flick pulled in to the skate park and saw a rather promising crowd of skaters hard into their sport. She got out her camera and attached the proper lens. She moved slowly around the edge of the concrete, metal and spray paint jungle that was the skate park taking action shots of skaters at their peak.

Just as she was about to pack it all in Flick was approached by a skater. As he got closer and removed his helmet she realized it was Spenser Thomas, the most popular alterna-boy in school, and she flushed bright red despite herself. Spenser had always been interesting to Flick, he was so laid back, and yet so intense while skateboarding. He was popular, but nice to everyone. He got excellent grades and was considered responsible by most adults, but he was a heavy partier and a bit of a burnout. He seemed to have everything under control while still maintaining a crazy teenage social life. Spenser had it all together. "Yo, Flick. Sup?"

Flick smiled quickly held up her camera bag and turned on her heel back toward her car. She was much too nervous to speak to Spenser now but she wasn't running (that would be suspicious behaviour) and so Spenser easily caught up to her rolling casually on his board. "Did you get some good shots?"

Flick stopped walking and faced Spenser. At this point there was no possible escape route that wouldn't lead to the most awkward social exchange of Flick's life. "Yeah. I did. Someone is doing a report on the skate ban, so" In a moment of uncharacteristic anger Spenser cut her off "SUCH bullshit." Flick wasn't so sure she agreed. The skate parks were being left open and even funded publicly, the skaters just weren't allowed to freestyle on the infrastructure downtown because it causes extra wear and tear on the fixtures, and because it impedes traffic flow, but she didn't want to explain all this right now, she just wanted to get in her Charger and drive home, so she mumbled "Yeah...bullshit..." and gave a sweet smile as she opened the door to her car and set her camera bag in the passenger seat.

Spenser turned back to his group of friends waiting for him on the edge of the skate park basin and waved as he called back over his shoulder, "Just make sure we look awesome OK?" Flick sighed. She had taken flattering pictures of them all, but she wasn't certain the content of the article they would accompany would please the skater crew. There was nothing she could do about that though. She was a photographer, not a reporter.

Flick drove home singing along (poorly) to the songs on the radio. She pulled into her driveway and noticed that Jake and Jillian were still across the street, and still being amicable with one another. She gave a small, but noticeable chuckle of disbelief as she headed toward her door.

Kya walked to work, (this was her least favorite part) and had to pass by Jillian's house (see?). She sighed in relief as Jillian payed no attention, but froze as she saw Jake, right. Next. To. Jillian.

Kya blinked with utter shock, and sunk bellow the fence-line, so only her hair was visible. She took no notice of this visibility. 'So much for that.' She thought with the familiar feeling of regret and emotion shattering pain.

Flick turned to go back to the house but something caught her eye. It was Kya, she walked nervously (as always) past Jillian's house but paused and froze for a minute as if processing something.

Flick giggled a little to see the strange girl duck below the fence line and peak at the odd couple across the street (Jillian and Jake) and lifted her camera to take a picture of the scene when through the lens she caught sight of Kya's face. Pain. Disappointment. Regret. This was no moment to capture. Flick lowered her camera and walked slowly toward the girl trying not to call Jillian's attention, though Flick supposed she'd be distracted by Jake anyway.

Jillian held her breath.

She looked away, and then sighed loudly.

"I- I.. I used to have a crush on you. Why would I still like you? I- um.. I've grown up. And I was nice to you today because you helped out. But this doesn't mean we're friends."

Jillian didn't once look at Jake's face.

Have to keep up appearances, don't I?

She put her glass in the sink and held out four $100 bills to Jake.

"Here, this is for helping out today."

She escorted him to her front door, and then left to go up to her bedroom.

I can't let him know how I feel.. It would be a horrible match.
