WIP Sneak Peak. background Advice

Pixel Dusk asked if I can do a art piece of her carecter. 

Only offering a sneak peak, I really want it to be a surprise...

I was thinking about giving the background a night time theme, however feel this might be an issue, considering,  the carecter is already a dark color. How can I overcome this challenge.. 

do anyone have any advise on background colours to use, maybe a few ideas.. 

looking at Pixel Dusk, all dark, I was wondering about the outline colour for the dark areas... I want it to stand out not too much or too little but just right. 

Please Help, if you can, and have a little time to spare.

3rd, Some people draw pixel a lighter grey, or flip the outline/main colours around, so if you want to do that, go ahead! Make the best of your art!
