Does anypony dislike katara from avatar the last airbender?

I liked her - she is strong willed and determined, and the only one with any useful bending skills early in the show (while her brother is basically comic relief)

She also appears in the korra seasons, giving a bit of continuity.

i thought of that when i first watch avatar the last airbender. but now that i'm rewatching this series, i felt like her brother had more development than her.

i can appreciate that she started off as a promising strong character in the beginning, but then...i just dislike her

Though she was my least favorite of the main group she's of the best characters in the show, and easily the top 5 for me

I like that she was a strong female character in a genre that tends towards either strong male characters or "magical girls" - ok, so later we get Toph, who is basically an attitude thinly disguised as a person, and the Kyoshi warriors who are quite definitely not helpless little females, but that's later, and they really aren't part of the "core" group.

However, you are right - she doesn't get much character development; Sokka, originally the camp clown, took several levels in badassery (even wearing a dress to do so) and stepped up to become an equal member of the team; she does become a waterbending master, but given they have the Avatar and Firebending/Earthbending masters on the team too, that doesn't say much.  Ok, at the end she does defeat Azula, but if Zuko hadn't had to "take a bullet" for her, she wouldn't have had to.

i found it contradictory when you said that. tell me more

Main Group just means Aang, Sokka, Katara, Zuko and Toph

Overall means taking all characters in the show into consideration

Also I was wrong, she's sixth, I completely forgot about Iroh, who's my favorite character in the show :P

iroh's great and cool character. loved how he gave zuko some advice (especially for the beneficial)

when i meant contradictory, i meant to ask why would you put katara as your least favorite even though she's the best character?

i agree on what you said. katara really should've just let zuko take azula down instead of stepping in the battle. none of this would happen to zuko if she could just hide or trust zuko to take azula down in the first place!

I said least favorite of the main group, as in the main lead characters, the 5 I mentioned earlier, when I say she's my least favorite, it just means, that, at worst, I was more invested in the other 4. But that doesn't mean I'm not interested in her, she had some especially great episodes like The Puppetmaster and The Southern Raiders.

nice to know that she have some greatness on her...especially in the third season. The previous me thought she'd be a great character, but...you can say these episodes only made me dislike her more. (not giving any gratitude to zuko when he nearly died to save katara, insulting aang and sokka's advice, etc.)

I mean I have read online that some people find her annoying and bossy, so you're not alone in disliking her.

However to me she is far from the weakest member of Team Avatar as both Suki and later on Mako hold that title in their respective groups.

In fact Katara would be my third favorite member of her group after Toph and Sokka.

i wonder who's actually the weakest in team avatar?

please tell me why would you rank katara #3 in team avatar

p.s. before i actually dislike katara to the highest level, i also read other ppl's opinions and ask myself if she's actually that bossy and cruel or even demanding at times

She is annoying and bossy - she also has plenty of human flaws - pride and jealousy over seeing Aang advance in training ahead of her, and been relegated to the "woman's tent" to learn waterbending healing techniques (which to be fair, came in REALLY handy a few times later on)

But you can point out similar problems with Zukko, with Toph, with Aang himself, and while he fixed them later, with early Sokka.

Part of the appeal of group sagas like this is that the characters can be related to, and are not just a bunch of flawless unstoppable machines.  Sokka had a fair climb to his final role, and Zukko needed his redemption; Toph started out a shallow bitch, and gradually got a little better, but Katara started out supportive and contributing, so its hard to see where they could go with that without having at least SOME remaining flaws.

I think sokka is still the weakest - he is now much better at fighting, but put him in a bending contest and he is going to be chickenfeed.  That doesn't make him a bad team member though - they have masters of all the three (non air) disciplines on the team, plus the avatar; sometimes practical beats OP, especially if the answer isn't "zap it with magic" (looks around for Starlight)

The swordmaster who trained Sokka is also a member of the lotus, which presumably means he is considered equal in stature to the great bending masters - a level none of the party (other than possibly Aang while in Avatar state) can meet.

exactly! if she could learn some waterbending from aang, she would've ease waterbending at a realistic pace.

putting sokka in a bending contest was, hands down, a complete embarassment. poor guy! :(

I think Katara is most like RD of the ponies - possibly Lightning Dust, but she doesn't seem AS reckless, that role goes to Sokka....

thats what i thought m8. arrogant. brash and lustfully prideful. katara definitely makes a great comparison to RD

but she could be verbally reckless at times too (e.g. when zuko mentioned his firebending got weaker, katara had the nerve to insult him)

She was a great character. My only exception is that she didn't fell in love with Zuko at the end. :orly: Zuko and Iroh are by far my favorite cartoon characters ever created.

My least favorite from the 3 of them, she was fine, though. No problems.

Katara as a character leaves a lot to be desired, however I still prefer her motherly nature giving Aang the strength to keep going with his life over Toph's character as a whole. I find Toph to be my absolute least favorite amongst the characters.

i wonder why you didnt like toph? i'll agree that while i can appreciate katara's motherly nature, she can be sometimes overly bossy (e.g. the waterbending scroll)

I said 3?:D I meant Sokka, Katara and Aang. The main 3 that the show introduces in the beginning.

at first the show starts this way. when season 2 looms by. toph the earthbender joins the group. by the near end of season 3, zuko stops ganging with his crazy sister and her friends to join the team

it's ok for you to be okay with katara. but for me. i just dislike her nasty tone and she sometimes has bad temperament.

Yeah I knew you'd get confused, my bad lul. But I still see the Sokka, Aang and Katara as the main 3 characters just because the show started that way.:D
