Maple Bat

Maple stopped when she saw him toss something and waited. The two heard the rock hit the ground not long after he tossed it. Maple tilted her head "Hold on." She dropped the torch and it fell about twice the distance that maple had fallen and landed on the ground. What Maple saw made her hair stand on end, Spikes sat at the bottom of the pit. "That'd explain the lack of walls here... You have nocturnal vision correct?" She asked him

So it indeed was a trap, Speechless thought to himself after seeing the spikes, feeling slightly uncomfortable about the confirmation that there was deadly traps. For Maple's question, Speechless nodded as a reply.

"Alright, then we shouldn't need a torch for the rest of this then." Maple said looking down into that hole "Though we should be more careful who knows what else there could be here..." She walked out of the small hall way they had entered and saw another symbol she hadn't seen before on a wall closer. She stared at it not sure if she should press it.

Speechless partially agreed, it was true that torch wasn't necessary, but even with nocturnal vision it wasn't possible to see in total darkness, so having a torch just in case was a good idea. He gave a sound of agreement when Maple said they should be careful, and as he followed her, Speechless grabbed a torch with him, not lighting it up.  He then joined Maple to look at the symbol too.

The icon looked like a sword, it was a simple one, "Well this can mean one of two things, theres an armory or something here or we're gonna have to fight... something." She pressed it and nothing happened immodestly "I guess it's brok-" Something collapsed onto the floor. It looked like a statue of some sort but after it hit the floor nothing happened. "O...K?"

Maple flew over to it as well it had some carvings on it as well but different from those that were on the walls. "What is this thing?" Maple said and then she touched it the runes flared for a second before going dark again. Maple looked at it very confused then looked at Speechless

When he touched the statue, it didn't flare again but he felt it move. The statue stood up.

Maple flinched "It's a sentin-" She got punched by the Sentinel managing to brace herself in time but it still hit pretty bad knocking her into a wall "Ow..." She groaned as she forced herself to move away from the wall. "I... Think we should run..." Maple suggested, She'd never fought something that was made of stone before but had heard of them.

Speechless could only watch as the statue came to life and punched Maple, and Maple didn't need to tell twice him to run as he took off running from the thing. Speechless had never heard of living statues so he was more or less confused, looking behind him to make sure Maple too got away.

MAple ran right after him. The sentinel following a ways behind her. After clearing enough distance the sentinel stopped and walked back to where it was before, transforming back into the statue it was before "So the sword means a fight... noted." She started to walk another way and when she moved away from Speechless he could see she was limping with her back left leg but apparently she didn't notice it

Speechless took a moment to catch his breath and nodded to the note about the sword. When he noticed Maple limping, Speechless made a sound to get Maple's attention and pointed at her leg, then fake limping few times and looking at her concerned.

Maple was confused not sure what he meant but when she tried to move the leg he pointed at, she felt a sharp pain race up her leg. "Gah!" She looked at her leg. "Well... How'd I not notice that before." Maple reached into her bag and pulled out a first aid kit but her back leg was the one that hurt. She couldn't reach it... "Could you..." She felt embarrassed asking this of him "Help me bandage that?"

Speechless nodded and took the first aid kit from Maple, he then proceeded to bandage her leg. Because he lived alone in a forest where there was nopony to help if he injured himself, Speechless had general knowledge and skill when it came to first aid,. After finishing the bandaging, Speechless took out his notebook and wrote "Can you continue or should we return to above ground?"

Maple moved her leg a bit it hurt but much less than before. She considered Speechless' question carefully "Maybe we should keep down here for now but if it gets worse we can get out. Shouldn't be too hard given all the exits." Maple looked around "Though perhaps I could follow you for now?"

"Aright, if you say so." Speechless wrote with a smile before putting the notebook back to the bag, and taking the lead towards the intersection they had originally came from. He kept his speed relatively slow, mostly to make sure that Maple didn't fall behind, but also because after the spike-trap and a living statue, he wanted to be extra careful.

Maple followed closely behind worried about what else could be here. She didn't want to leave just yet though she felt they were missing something but decided to leave that choice to speechless. She didn't want him to get hurt... or worse because of her choice. "Don't worry I can keep up. You keep leading."

After a rather uneventful walk back to the intersection, Speechless continued straight to first passageway on the opposite wall, meaning that looking from their original starting point, they were now at the first hallway on the left.

He now was even more careful because they were now somewhere they hadn't been yet, he also kept eye out for sigils and anything else interesting. Speechless had thought about leading Maple back above ground because of her injury, but had decided to trust her when she said she can continue.

Maple was, mostly walking normal "Shed occasionally step on something uneven and it hurt for a second but she pressed on out of curiosity. "See anything feel free to press any of the icons I can take some more damage." She laughed. "As... Long as I don't get smashed into another wall."

Speechless laughed too, but he didn't actually find it funny, he didn't like to see anypony get hurt, especially if that pony was his friend, thus, he rather got himself hurt than let Maple to get hurt again. He continued to move carefully and attentively, listening Maple's movement in case of she stopping, hurting herself or anything similar.

Maple stopped after she heard a click. There was a tile on the floor.  She looked around but nothing seemed to happen "Wait for it..." She said a few seconds later she shrugged. "I guess it wasn't anything..." She looked down and saw the tile had no icon on it. "You see anything interesting?"

(OOC: You can make up something. I wanna see what you come up with.)

Speechless too looked around after hearing the click, after not seeing anything right away, he went to look at the tile from closer, confirming that it was blank. He started looking around, he wasn't convinced that it hadn't done anything. After a moment of looking around, Speechless noticed old burnt torch on the ground few pony lengths away, and choose to lit the one he was carrying.

After igniting the torch, Speechless looked around and noticed that the tile Maple had stepped on, wasn't blank after all, but there was a darker lines forming a square when he brought the torch closer. After looking at the tile for a second, Speechless walked forward, keeping the torch in front of him, until not far from them, there was several similar squares here and there, around the floor, and among all the squares, there was several sword icons, similar to the one that had woken up the statue.

"Wow..." Maple said seeing the number of them. "Best tread lightly... We don't know what else this place holds as fights..." She said dreadfully "Let's just avoid them this time." She said flying over them slowly. She wasn't sure if there when any in the roof but she didn't want to touch it to be sure.

Speechless too took flight, taking the torch to his hoof, checking both roof and walls with it, concluding that they were safe, it seemed that the what most likely was a trap wasn't meant for pegasis or batponies.  The marked tiles continued for a while before they finally ended and it was safe to land, Speechless took the lead again as he continued walking, keeping the torch in front of him just in case.

It didn't take a lot of walking until the passageway had a turn to the right and there was waiting an another dead-end, with similar icon than the one that had opened the hallway to the spike-trap. Speechless naturally pressed the icon as he already knew what it did, and as expected it opened another passageway next to them, and unlike the spike-trap one, walls on this one were normal, continuing like everywhere else.

Maple landed behind Speechless when he didn't and grunted when her hurt hoof touched the ground despite that she kept walking curiously wondering what the place would hold. "I wonder if there's something here that's older than the elements of harmony..." Maple said mystified by how far the tunnels went. "maybe older than even the alicorn princesses."
