gaming Has anyone played the Ys Franchise?

Basically, Ys (pronounced Yees. Kinda like Yeesh, but remove the H) is an Action RPG series.

 

Been playing all different versions of Ys 1 - 4 through different platforms and having fun.

 

Ys series is well known for its combat system where you just simply run into enemies at an angle or on their side to damage them. I call it the Blitzkrieg mechanic since the main character Adol Christin descends from the fictional land of Garman at Europa (TOTALLY NOT SUBTLE). This mechanic can be a little boring and counter-intuitive, but challenging nonetheless.

 

I like Ys 2 slightly more than Ys 1. Mainly because of the magic system implemented and it's well-balanced difficulty.

 

That and Ys 1 is pretty hard and luck based when to comes to defeating bosses. It shares the same difficulty spike as Mega Man 1. Ys 3 is my first introduction to the franchise and while it may be considered a black sheep I still liked it. Probably my favorite of the bunch. Ys IV is ok.

 

Speaking of Mega Man, Ys series have an amazing video game soundtrack. This Action RPG has the Mega Man feel to it IMO.
