I found a petition to cancel MLP:FiM....and I can't stop laughing

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING AT THIS PERSON WHO CLEARLY HAS NEVER WATCHED THE SHOW HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA......

*Clears throat* Okay, so I found this petition to cancel MLP:FiM just because of the brony community: https://www.change.org/p/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-bronies-cancel-the-series-my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-to-end-the-brony-fad?source_location=minibar Don't worry, it's from 5 years ago, It's closed, and it didn't get all 100 signatures needed for the show to immediatly be canceled forever or as someone thought. This person states that bronies are "a very hostile group, verbally attacking and harassing anyone who doesn't agree with them." and "do not let your children search for "My Little Pony" on the internet...These bronies twist the cartoon in ways to suit themselves and their disturbing desires..." and my personal favorite, "On the very surface, they can be nice and friendly, especially in public. Online, they will be careful about what they say and how they act around parents, trying to explain that they only like the cartoon in sweet, harmless fun. Don't you believe them for a second. " Obviously this person is only looking at a minority of the fandom, the bronies who make very violent and sexual content; and an even smaller part of the community: the bronies who are constantly trying to convert non-bronies to being bronies, and will harass and send death threats to anyone who disagrees. But literally any fandom has those people, and also rule 34 happens. This is just a classic case of "i've only seen this one minor group of a community, so every single other person in the community is exactly that". Also the person mentions a disabled pony being in the show who is fan-made, but when this character didn't live up to some expectations of the bronies they sent death threats to the creators. When an online user shared their opinion about the disabled character, some bronies sent a bunch of death threats and hate to the user. I was very confused about this fan-made disabled character. It took me awhile to realize it was Derpy Hooves, but she wasn't fan created. She was just a background character with an animation error in her eyes that made fans adore her, and the creators acknowledged this kept the mistake in her eyes and added her to more episodes. Of course some people may not be happy too about it, just like literally anything, but clearly who made the petition clearly hasn't done any proper research. If you read what they say exactly they are over-exaggerated things. Yeah, sending death threats to someone is a big deal, especially if the person targeted didn't do anything wrong, but the creator of the petition had it in their mind that every single male fan of the show makes violent, sexual content, are pedophiles, into beastiality(this is all said by the person), are very hostile, hateful, intolerant perverts and each and every one of them send death threats. Talk about over-generalization, geez. Links to very violent videos and p0rn are listed below the article, along with a picture of a supposed swastika in the show which doesn't even go to a picture, just more links to that picture that you have to download to see. The person as stated more stuff about very violent videos and p0rn websites, and a personally encounter with a brony that didn't go well...

True fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic will know that FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, and listen to the friendship lessons by actually watching the show, and actually genuinely like it because of the characters, storyline, and lore. At least, I hope so. This petition may have been already posted about a long time ago, since it's been on the internet for a while, but I just wanted to share how ridiculous and hilarious this petition is especially to those who haven't seen it. Hehehehe.

P.S. I did eventually stop laughing xD

Anything will look harmful to a person who chooses to only see the bad side. Anyone who's upset by people they've never met watching a harmless television show has some more pressing issues they need to work out

Actually that's true that it's really really easy to find dark side of the fandom digging through the Internet. But it's not about MLP! it's about Internet and people. You will find porn in the net if you will look for it :D (and sometimes even if you will not :please:)

I couldn't be bothered to read the whole petition (I may be bored but not that badly). I just found it crazy how someone thought Hasbro would actually cancel a show with millions of viewers based on a petition with 100 signatures (especially given how useless online petitions have proved to be in most cases). I almost wish it had been sent to Hasbro – I'm sure someone there would have got a good laugh from that!

Is it wrong for me to feel pity for the creator of this petition? I've seen this "petition" a long time ago and needless to say it didn't went according to his plan.

One of the commentators of the petitions sums up the whole thing,

"I must say, this is a rather abhorrent "petition" you've got. (And I use the term "petition" lightly)

Claiming that the minority of a fandom is the majority? Logical fallacies, PAH! You'll have to try better than that if you wish to get anyone 's attention."

People are fickle and unpredictable. They can be fans of anything for any reason. It's however for the best not to assume the worst reason people could have for joining any fandom to maintain control of the sanity. Because the chances of that happening is very slim and even then the minorities are loud and proud for what they do within the fandom for the wrong reasons.

Also, the creator has no idea how the Internet works.

The legions of Anonymous must cater to the rules of the Internet no matter how stupid, memish, and humorous it may seem to the general populace to fulfill their... unnatural desires.

http://rulesoftheinternet.com/

This makes the Internet a Wild West of all kinds of information: Pure Information, Disinformation, Misinformation etc.

Nah, It's not wrong to pity them, cause I do a bit too. It must be hard to be that ignorant, though I feel bad that they had to see ponies being violent and sexual when they didn't want to and they didn't mean to stumble upon it

Technically speaking, just about EVERYTHING could possibly fall into the same broad-stroke category the petitioner gave; does that mean they basically just want the entirety of both TV AND the internet to be shut down?

It always pains me GREATLY to see the community we have break down into fits or angry, disrespectful rants - it only weakens us as a whole, and does nothing but feed the fires for more petitions like this one.  The best way to prevent things like this is to LIVE AS AN EXAMPLE of what you want folks to see in your fandom; that goes for ALL fandoms in general.  As long as we keep ourselves composed and calm, we take all the wind out of the haters' sails, leaving them stranded in an ocean of pointlessness.

The petitioner, by the way, most certainly needs to have a better look at the community they're working against - and, were this thing not so old, I would probably approach them online in a kind and professional manner to speak on behalf of my favorite folks; because only UNDERSTANDING can break hate down and allow reason to take over.

Thank you for your time.  *bows*

I gotta admit- Brilliant arguments to start petition with. :D That person clearly doesn't know how the internet works. NSFW content is absolutely everywhere, even in Pokemon. Violence- cursing- I saw parodies with these. Much more violence is coming from politics (wars to not search far, duh!), yet he's triggered by MLP fans/fanworks. :derp: Hate is a veeeeeeeeeeeeery common thing (sadly), especially on the internets, so woah- he managed to discover one of 999999nine99 internet dramas. gg john. ^_^

No offense to anybody -. :rarity:

The dude who wrote that petition went by John Smith, and that guy from Pocahontas came to mind :D

Now, I get it! Good one.

By the way, as much as I still enjoy the Disney Character, John Smith even today, I'm disappointed in how his VA, Mel Gibson apparently got worse with time. Maybe the John Smith who made the anti-Friendship is Magic petition is really Mel Gibson spreading his "Christian" view of the show to the world.:okiedokieloki:

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's true.:orly:

This is most certainly a troll. Most petitions usually end up being ignored no matter how many signatures there are, and merely a hundred won't mean anything if the show is massively popular no matter how 'bad' the fandom (some fans) is. It's not a good decision from a business perspective. What's next, expecting a company to cancel a high rated and universally popular show with a petition of 10 signatures because you personally find it overrated?

It's definitely strange that he picked MLP of all things - maybe he has some sort of a personal feud against people who like MLP for whatever reason.

Things like this make me snicker, are the people signing the petition doing it for real? How can they let one fandom bother them so much?

Yeah, Mel Gibson kinda lost a neuron or two

It's funny that the confident, experienced, and skilled is such a way, and we got Thomas: a nervous young n00b who lacked a backbone only getting assertive in ONE scene be like:

Honestly I've heard much worse. :/ Also there was no way signing (especially with only 100 signatures), would stop a strong show and fandom. These things happen all the time, but they are entertaining to watch.

Yeah we bronys have a sad stereotype plastered to our culture.  People automatically name you gay, and pedophile.  The first person to do this to me was my own grandma.  She did this about a week ago and it hit me hard.  I was prepared for anypony else naming me that, just not my mom or my grandma.
