gaming Early Morning Games

It is fairly early in the morning for me right now. With not much to do, it has me thinking of random things. Currently, I am remembering the times when I would get up for school, get ready as quick as possible, then use the remaining time to play a game for a bit. That would always help me get in a better mood in the mornings before heading off to the robot manufacturing plant----I mean school.

So I want to ask, are there any games in your life that you would play early in the morning after waking up? Assuming you had the time. This could be in the past or even nowadays if it matches.

One clear game I remember playing was Dynasty Warriors 4. I absolutely loved that game back in the day and it was a great one for early morning playing, since you can start a battle and save and quit. I then would look forward to continuing that battle later once I got home. Those were really good times.

I also remember playing my DS during a specific year of school on the bus. It was a small bus as I went to a specialized school that year, and the ride itself was over 30 minutes long. Gave me plenty of time to play some Mario 64 DS or Wario Ware in the morning. Worked out pretty well since it was a quiet trip most of the time. This is making me rather nostalgic.

During my childhood (today as well, just not early in the morning) I was a big addict of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 game. It's a strategic game based on turns that is known for causing "one more turn" syndrome. It kinda made my mind a bit sharper before school as the game requires plenty of thinking and very strategic approach - AI while being very dumb most times was capable of wrecking player when he did a bad mistake. I still play it, not  because of pure nostalgia, but because it is just a damn great game just like the future additions to the franchise.

I also played Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast a lot (and yes, I still do). Just because... it was fun. I loved lightsaber combat in the game and I believe it is so far the best representation of it in video games - it is very simple, but I believe all the fancy "combos" in games look pretty ridiculous.

Those are the two games that first came into my mind. I loved them back then and I still love them. And it feels great to enjoy them just as much as I used to back then despite technologically superior games being released today by indie developers.

The one Game i played mostly in the morning was Worms 4 - Mayhem, you can get in a match very quick, customize Characters and create short Storys for them in your mind and that often gets me in the mood to also play other Games.

Oh yes - I still play it as well, often going back to play the first Reborn fight^, or the first meeting with the Shadow Troopers.

I used to have a similarly long trip to school, and I would argue with my brother over who got to play Advanced Wars 2 on their Gameboy (and sometimes Lord of the Rings - Return of the King.)

For me, Red Alert 2 is the game that springs to mind for a Saturday morning. Its fast pace (compared to Tiberian Sun, the other game of the time*) and rather jolly & colourful take on the Third World War make it a nice and cheery start to the morning. Start up a long mission low-pressure mission such as Liberty, building up a base and then assembling a force liberate Washington DC by blasting through the numerous Soviet tank divisions defending it... a very satisfying way to start a day.

^ if you used force push at *exactly* the right time, you can catch them in mid-air and have them fall down and out of Cloud City (possibly whilst informing them that you are their father.)

*back before I had hundreds of games to choose from. How times change.

Animal Crossing GCN. I remember back in late 2002/2003 always playing it a little bit before school. My middle school was within walking distance, so I had time. I was so addicted to that game.

When I was younger, I would boot up my DS and mess around on Pokemon Platinum.  As of late, when I have the time, I would play Miitopia and try to complete some of the daily missions from the Travelers' Hub and then try to make some progress in New Lumos.

I remember playing Final Fantasy 8 a helluva lot before school. I remember (this will make me sound like a baby) but the game intimidated me because it seemed so big and i would get too scared to play far into game so i would replay the first 1 hour over and over again for months. It took till i was about 10 before i got the courage to play that not scary at all game XD

Needless to say i know the beginning of that game very well!

  • 1 year later...

When I was in Grade 6, I remember waking up early a lot to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I recall being so distracted playing once, that I ended up being late for class.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.
