Jade Fire 7,059 October 4, 2017 Share October 4, 2017 (edited) no. they already said they dont have any plans for any more alicorns anytime soon. Spoiler warning. it seems more likely they're making her the 7th of mane group with her being the 7th teacher of the friendship school alongside the other 6 in the season 8 animatic Edited October 4, 2017 by Jade Fire

Jeric 46,866 October 4, 2017 Share October 4, 2017 Starlight Glimmer is likely not destined to become a Princess. Since her introduction in Season 5, I've had an up and down reaction to her. As a villain she was unique and I marveled at the story possibilities. While I loved the Season 5 finale, I felt her reasons for taking the wrong path were poorly conceived and presented. In Season 6 she was a mixed bag. There are episodes I loved her in, and episodes that could have been better. She didn't seen to have that sharp edge to her anymore, and felt like a completely different character instead of an evolution. I honestly felt that the staff had no earthly idea what to do with this ultra powerful new unicorn character. She barely had positive interactions with anyone but Spike and Twilight, but there were opportunities for her to be placed in with them. Then the finale happened. I took notice. I loved this direction and Starlight shined in those two episodes. I still had misgivings. At the start of Season 7 I had said that Starlight was a fine character. Fine. My exact words here. Very early in the season I saw something different. She had some different traits. She had a salty side. She still doesn't get the nuances of Friendship, and she struggles with more realistic self-worth issues than the Mane Six. If not for Perfect Pear cementing Applejack as my number 2 (amusing that she is my avatar today) ... then Glim Glam may have taken that spot. Starlight is a character that may have become my favorite if she had been on the show earlier. Now ... well nopony can dethrone Fabulosity. You'll often find me defending two characters a lot here ... Rainbow Dash and Glimmer. These are characters I think have the most story and character potential left on the show. But, I'm not ok with Glimmer repeating an old storyline used in the show already. Making her an Alicorn takes a bit away from what made Twilight so special. I don't want that.

While I agree it was poorly presented, in fact I think you're understating how badly they botched the presentation for her backstory, after I took the time to try and make sense of her past and ideology, I don't think it's as bad as most others do. I could write an essay dissecting Starlight's past and how that influenced her ideology, but... that's a lot of work I don't have the time for right now. Maybe during the hiatus I'll write it out. Instead I'll just point out that if you want a better understanding of what Starlight went through, look at Moondancer. They both went down a similar path: abandoned by someone they thought was their friend, they turned inward and isolated themselves to try and avoid the pain they came to associate with friendship. They both poured themselves into their studies. They both became angry and bitter. The big difference between the two is that Moondancer was an adult when Twilight left her, and she only went through this isolation for a few years. Starlight was abandoned as a child, and as a child she needed to come up with a reason for what happened to her, something she could attach to the emotions she felt. And she settled on the thing that created the difference between her and Sunburst, a cutie mark. I don't think it's a coincidence we got another character in season five who went through something very similar, nor do I think it's a coincidence that Starlight has appeared in every episode Moondancer has. Like I said, I could write an essay, but I'll stop here. Edited October 4, 2017 by ShootingStar159

These are reasons that make people started to hate Starlight Glimmer character and using these points against her every time. Her motivations are not so bad, they just lack something, and the song sequence just add fuel to the fire. Her 'Every Little Thing She Does' show us better what wrong with her childhood. 6 hours ago, ShootingStar159 said: Starlight was abandoned as a child, and as a child she needed to come up with a reason for what happened to her, something she could attach to the emotions she felt. I can feel there will be an episode about Starlight's parents and it can solved everything. Edited October 4, 2017 by Lambdadelta
