I bought the Friday the 13th Parts 1-8 film series in October because the game got me interested in watching them and I wanted to know more about the series. Outside of the first film, I don’t think I had seen the others. So far, I have seen 1-5. For those of you who have seen them all, which do you think is the best? How about the worst? If you are really interested, I would love to see you rank them from worst to best.

This film series is one I tend to be a bit of an expert on. My favorite is Jason Lives, but have recognized Final Chapter and the original as probably superior films. The best special effects are in Jason X (kills) and New Blood (Jason's decay effects) ... but there is something about the cheese, music, and humor that makes me enjoy the sixth entry the most.

I could rage for hours about Jason Takes Manhattan, Final Friday, and the crappy censorship in A New Blood (as well as the odd editing moments in Final Chapter).

You should consider picking up Freddy vs Jason and even the Platinum Dunes reboot. The later is not that good, but most Friday the 13th films aren't great filmmaking.

Kane Hodder is best Jason.

Personally, I am not a fan of the  slasher sub-genre.  I generally, don't remember myself enjoying films such as Saw, Final Destination, Freddie, etc. because of how gruesome they tend to be, also I am not a big fan of blood appearing on screen.  I know many people do enjoy those, but it isn't my cup of tea.

These types of slasher films have never been for me. The kind where it is basically just people dying in brutal ways, it seems senseless to me. If I have to go with a slasher film, I would prefer the more 'revenge' type, where the more grizzly death scenes come from a character getting retribution against an evil force or group of people. The Hills Have Eyes remake is an example of that. I have yet to see a single Friday the 13th film all the way through, simply because they eventually bore me.

Yeah, it seems like the fourth is widely regarded as the best one. I am eager to watch the sixth one though to see Tommy Jarvis face off against Jason.

Kane Hodder is who they got to play Jason in the game, so that is pretty cool.

Also, have you seen that TV series they made? Was that any good?

Yes.

I'm not going to waste time looking up a reaction gif. It's pretty bad. It isn't connected to the Voorhees lore and it's poorly written and acted. So it gets a no on both counts ... now ... if you are interested in other media that had Jason in it ... there are several books and comics made that are worth picking up. Most are ... kinds horrible ... but hey it's Friday the 13th.

Comics write up

Also there are a few YouTubers that cover (in crazy detail) the films. Do a search for Death Twitch. I'd link his videos but they cover some of the more graphic elements of the kills and this has always been a grey area with this forums rules so ... I'll leave the link off. ;)

This is actually one of the reason I once wanted a non porn adult tag so I could really delve into various horror films. Some of the effects are amazing for the budget and the technique. Except the highly edited and censored Part VII (many of the kills were cut away because they were deemed too graphic).

I was 7 when the 1980 13th movie was released.

I wasn’t even born when the first movie came out(or most of the sequels for that matter). I was born in 87’ by the way.

Did you see it when you were 7? It must have been cool to watch it in the movie theater.
