Equestria School of Magic?

Okay I’m a massive Harry Potter fan. I grew up reading the series, I swear hundreds of times over. And as a result I identify strongly with my Hogwarts house, Gryffindor. Does Equestria have a magic school with houses? I have only just start d watching FiM so I apologise for not knowing! If not, what houses would you imagine one having, and what house would you/your OC/ponysona be in and why?

I imagine the Equestria School of Magic but I would like to watch more of the show to make lore-appropriate house names. Really just curious!

Well their IS Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. Twilight went there. Doesn’t appear to have houses though. Houses are more of a Europe thing, and Equestria is loosely based on North America.

That’s cool! Do you suppose there’s any chance of other pony types knowing magic besides Unicorns? I mean from what I’ve seen even Pegasus ponies have a magic knack with weather. And other species as well.

Yeah it definitely is a more European thing. I think it’s just popular having a “house” or faction that you belong to! Good for team spirit.

Equestria has that Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns in Canterlot, except for that you don't really know what that school looks like and I'm not sure they're different house
Anyway I've pass the test on internet and I ended up with Slytherin, not really what I wanted but Internet has spoken so let's respect that. And my OC is suppose to be me in a pony body so I guess he's Slytherin too

Actually, YES! It is in fact canon in the show that ALL ponies have some kind of magic.

There’s the obvious magic of the species in general when it comes to things like cutie marks and special talents. And then there’s race specific magical traits, though there appears to be some bleed over now and then.

Unicorns can consciously and outwardly manifest magic through their horns and cast spells.

Pegasi can control weather, walk on clouds, and have been confirmed to have some if not all of their flying abilities based in magic.

Earth Ponies tend to have super strength and nature based affinities, like growing plants and caring for animals.

Which Hogwarts House Do You Belong In?

You got: Ravenclaw

You're clever and wise. Your friends often come to you to get advice because you always know what to say. Your creativity allows you to look at things in an out-of-the-box way. And your wit makes you a pleasure to be around.

Would be awesome to see houses in Celestia's school.

Haha wow love the sense of humour here!

I would love to know a magic school that teaches ponies about their inner magic, specialised to whichever type of pony they may be. I think it'd be cool! Every house might represent a pony type, with homage to maybe a mythological god or figure.

Starswirl House (unicorns), Firefly or Hurricane House (Pegasi), and maybe Meadowbrook House (Earth ponies).

But yeah, there seems to be both active magic and passive magic in the different pony races. Unicorns have no passive magic abilities. All their magic is conscious and summoned by them. Pegasi's passive magic would be walking on clouds and flying. It's not something they have to think about. Creating weather though is active magic. Earth Ponies don't seem to have any active magic abilities. All their abilities are passive and not something hey have to think about. Applejack doesn't have to think about being super strong, she just is.

And then I also forgot to mention magic from outside sources. Like crafing/using magic artifacts and potion making. For example, Applebloom, AJ's little sister, is an Earth Pony with passive magic, but she begins studying potion making with Zecora and Twilight later in the series as a hobby.

Which I think is very cool! You might also get ponies from a passive parent, like an Earth pony, and an active Unicorn parent, who are a passive magic type like Earth, but have the potential to be more active with either practice or study, depending on the pony?

Before Fluttershy’s parents were revealed, there was actually a theory that one of them was an Earth Pony, and that that was why she wound up with an animal talent and lives on the ground.

It turned out both her parents were Pegasi, but it’s still possible she has Earth pony relatives farther back.

Aw I had hoped they would incorporate some of G1s TAF Dancing Butterflies to her family.. I just looked them up! I'm going to pretend her great great grandma was DB and thats where her affinity for flora and fauna was inherited from. Because why not! TAFDB is a gorgeous pony who suits Fluttershy to a tee.
