critique wanted Need help with OC

Can anyone help me with my oc's backstory? And maybe with improving his design?

He's a teenage griffon named Granite who's hobbies include carving stone statues and reading comic books. His birthday is on the 12th of February and he currently resides in Griffonstone with his parents Gerard and Gia and older sister Gemma.

Granite's usually very reserved and prefers to keep his emotions to himself most of the time, which sometimes may give others the impression of being cold, and in some cases a little mean.

But despite that distant exterior Granite deeply cares about his friends and family and shows it in his own distinctive way, by often going out of his way to help them in any way he can.

He's also a free spirit who values his independence and won't let anything restrict him. In adittion to that, Granite can also be rather rebellious and stubborn.

But aside from his negative traits, Granite respects the oppinions of others (even if they're wrong) and cares about the well-being of others.

 

Likes: Comic books, sci-fi and fantasy novels (yeah, he's kind of a geek), stones, gems and most animals.

 

Dislikes: Arrogancy, goats (long story...), getting up early and sunglasses.
