Perfect Idea for a Series Finale

I was thinking that the original plot for the movie would be very useful for a series finale when the time comes.  In case you don't know what I'm talking about:

Twilight and her friends dealing with the return of an evil alicorn named Cosmos, who is implied to be Celestia and Luna's brother, resulting in friction between Twilight and Celestia over the former's capacity to handle the situation.

Essentially, all of the lessons that had been learned over the course of the show would be put to use here.

Well this could be interesting, but it also can go in a very wrong and bad way.

First of all: introducing a villain at the end of the series , who is the princesses brother is actually a bad idea. It could be well done if the writers actually choose to construct a real arc around that story; meaning that all of season 8 is about the confrontation between the elements and this "Cosmos". A real story arc, where they can then use the lessons they learned . Because if they decided to actually talk about all of these lessons in just two final episodes, my head is gonna hurt because it would be the most cheesy episodes ever.

Second of all: the implications for the story. It was more than implied by Starswril at the end of season 7 : "Look how you've grown you two.." it means that Starswril actually knew the princesses when they were kids, or teens to the very least. And even if not canon, that idea was also taken by the comics. And we know that there has been some time between the time where Starswril went into limbo and Luna's banishment. How? Well, they know have the exact appearance than when they fought Discord and when Nightmare Moon appeared (we saw that in the flashbacks).

Then... why doesn't Starswril mention this brother ? Doesn't he care about him? Know about him? Then again, we could say that this would be an older brother, but much older, like old enough to be evil before Starswril went to limbo, so he can banish him. But if he was also young at that time? Then Starswril not asking about him doesn't make really sense... but yeah they could make him older.

If they do as you say, I hope they're not going to make it just with two episodes but the whole season. That way we could have Luna and Celestia becoming more important, interact more with themain characters.  But I'm not sure I would like that either...

I saw an idea somewhere that the series end should be the adventure two parter with a Slice of Life followup as the finale.

Maybe it was me, as I'm sure I wrote such an idea years ago

The finale will be a DLC time exclusive randomized physical toy content comprised of three separate endings cut into three parts each.

There will also be a fourth secret true ending where all the world variants and timelines are destroyed by the Hundred-Legged Titan; however, some broken shards are restored via Phlebotinum-powered World Forge, a powerful remnant of the ultimate lost thaumaturgy that survived the destruction of the progenitor multiverse by getting blasted into the void. The strange, single world, ever-changing by the raining shards and Titan's lingering presence, offers both a new beginning and a new end to those few still wading helplessly through the fields of untamed magic.

That's something like 100+ morals, so I don't really see how we could get all of that in a single episode without it becoming overstuffed. Even stretching it out over a season would probably just be redundant.

Personally I think this show has pushed spectacle and escalation about as far as it can go, and I'd rather it continued thinking about other kinds of adventures than just defeating a great villain. This was part of why I didn't like the movie very much, while I don't know what the ideal adventure-type series finale would be, I'm not sure sending off the series with yet more tacked-on lore and yet more overblown spectacle would do the show justice.

My favourite idea for a MLP finale continues to be be having a whole season of fun, celebratory episodes, and then following that up with the mane six throwing a literal party. Maybe not "quiet and reflective," but certainly slice-of-life.

A fourparter with a villain that has corrupted Nightmare Moon and Stygian. And that all forces join to stop him.

I think you're on the right track with this. A new villain that's related to Celestia and Luna, though? I dunno about that. That's a lot to add right before the end of the show, especially without prior mention of them for the entirety of its existence. I do like where your'e going with the plot, though.
