Since season 9 is the final season, from what I've seen in the leaked concept art and vectors, it looks like things are not looking good for..

The Mane 6, Ponyville, The Crystal Empire, all of Equestria and ALL the other creature kingdoms.

Grogar the necromancer makes his series debut(bell and all)

King Sombra has been resurrected (the vector even said "Resurrected King Sombra, and he has a new horn)

Ponyville and The Crystal Empire is under his control. And Spike, The CMC, the students and more are all under his spell.

The Elements of Harmony have been destroyed.

These vectors have episode numbers of 2, 4 and 5.

 

Theory is, Equestria, The Crystal Empire and more are under the banner of The Kingdom of Tambelion. 

In terms of hierarchy.

Grogar(Defacto leader and Emperor)

Sombra(second in command and ruler of the expanded empire)

Chrysalis (third in command, gains a kingdom of her own to govern but wants more)

Another theory is Grogar is the one who turned Sombra.

The thing about season 9 is that anything could change at this point. Personally; I'm VERY excited about certain elements, but I am also afraid that things will change.

Just have to wait and see. Season 8 stories are set in stone, season 9 probably less so.

Besides, movie aside, I can't see the writers putting the characters in a situation this utterly hopeless.

Many of S9's vectors were leaked, and it usually takes about a year before the animation is complete. Won't shock me if the scripts for maybe the first five or six episodes are complete and beginning production very soon.

Aside from the deer and a Sunset cameo I've been longing for Grogar, Tambelon, and a Sombra return for so long. I've been secretly hyped for season 9 since the leaks (as much as I hate to say it like that), so it concerns me that things will change, but we'll see.

Oh crap.... poor Spike. This really doesn't look good for him. The Crystal Empire is all he had to make him feel like a hero. If Sombra comes back, and someone that's not Spike defeats him, that'll make Spike feel like his hero status was taken from him. Unless they're gonna make up for that by giving Spike someone else, I'm scared for him!

Maybe is Spike gonna save the Crystal Empire along with Starlight and her friends. That would be cool. King Sombra vs Starlight, Sunburst, Trixie and Spike.

This really does sound like a final season (as opposed to season 3 where MMC ended rather ambiguously) since the alleged premise puts the characters in a situation where there's absolutely no hope.

I really wonder how this is gonna work out. And I wonder what Grogar has done all those years, and of he only exists in the final, or that he will be introduced along the season.

I've seen Sombra's vector, but didn't pay attention to his new horn. Dunno for Grogar though, as it either wasn't in the leaks, or I just didn't see it

 . Regardless, good luck seeing them, as the source of the leaks has been taken down, and they can't be shown 'round here

Well, I hope another unexpected hero saves the day this time. Maybe McFlurry, as she has shown a surprising amount of intelligence for her age, but she has shown expected weaknesses as a baby as well. Unless they pull a child from the future in there. Regardless, I think she should play a part in taking out Sombra, as he's like a personal enemy to her family, being the usurper of her kingdom

Yeah, sounds like shit's more real than ever. Makes sense, as, unless they change their minds, this WILL be the final season for FiM. Due to the time lapse, they could make another season or special, but I suggest not to get your hopes high unless there's an otherwise official word

The Flim Flam bros? Well for starters, I thought they were happy at Gladmane's casino? They make a ton more money there they would ever do on the road! I say their arc is done!

Pfft, so much for Scorpan/Tirek reunion episode. I thought the Hearth's Warming special would be perfect for that! So if the premiere is Sombra, and the finale is Grogar, when are we gonna have time for Tirek and Scorpan's reunion? Not the season 8 finale, there's too much going on between the students defending the school and the Mane Six escaping Tartarus!

I think she should be final villain, maybe by taking Grogar's power or something, but she deserves the spot.
