people who take their jobs too seriously

I am quite nervous around security personnel or security guards. I feel like they're watching or following me almost any time I catch them in view. They DO take their jobs too seriously that's for sure, and have a sense of power just because they wear all that safety garb and look 'cool' doing it. They're not paid by us like the police (through our taxes), so their notion of safety and protection at least for me goes out of the window. They only care about the premises, not the people in it, and its no wonder I get so agitated being around them. Hell, one of my favourite places to eat in London, which is open 24 hours a day had to hire a bouncer to stop drunk revellers going in and thanks to that I can't go back if I am ever stuck near there at night while hungry as hell; which is very disappointing.

On the subject of the TSA, having never been to the US before when I went in 2014 I was expecting some TSA roughness but they were extremely nice. Sure, they went through my bag, which I didn't find out about until I came back home but in person I didn't find any issues with them.

I was almost convicted of robbery at a Walmart because a cashier decided my behavior seemed odd to him, and the main security dude was borderline harassing me. I understand it was close to X-Mas at the time, but that's still completely ridiculous and over-the-top. Lesson learned: Never use a self-checkout at Walmart again.

Considering that experience, makes perfect sense how security guards in general scare the actual f*** out of me.

I'am actually a licensed (unarmed) security guard... now I've never been employed as one, but I can tell you the "harassment" you get from security and TSA is justifiable. They take their jobs seriously because if they fuck up that could cost at best the assets they were protecting and at worst innocent lives. Then it makes their company look bad and depending on the severity could lead to termination. So anything they do to you, don't take personal just comply with them and everything will be fine.

Now there are those who are complete assholes, but I've yet to meet any who've overstepped their boundaries or at least that I can remember.

  • 2 weeks later...

Border patrol usually gives me problems, but I can't blame them for that since my family has a big role in a illegal system, so they always ask a lot more questions about why I'm there and what I'll be doing. That's just how the world is

  • 3 years later...

A local place hired the Pinkerton Detectives(not kidding, also they're still around) to enforce their mask rules and their "healthy persons only" rule.

Also you have to wear their masks, not yours. They don't really take or give any...but I suppose that's what they're paid to do.

A long time ago I was berated by a cashier for having 4 cents too much when paying.

It tends to be the law enforcement types who let their power go to their heads, at least in my experience. Maybe it’s the fact that they can carry a gun and have way too much control over the lives and livelihood of others. I appreciate that they’re there and that they do provide a necessary service, but some of them forget who’s paying their salary with their taxes. Then there are those lovely ‘quota making’ times when police saturate every street corner with radar guns and hand out huge fines to anyone going 4 or 5 mph over the limit, just to generate income for their department. That’s not doing their duty, that’s screwing the public for a buck. I often wonder how many urgent calls are going unheeded because all the cops are out cashing-in on the easy targets. And the condescending attitude is something I could do without, especially when they hang out on deserted country roads in the middle of the night, avoiding the real crimes so they can crack down on people like me making California stops, then act like I’m Jack the Ripper out on a spree. Lame.

As far as the TSA, I’ve never had any problems with them. They have a lot of people to check, and they have to do a thorough job, but they seem to have a decent attitude about it and they’ve always treated me with respect.

Some security guards where I work are great, while others are complete asses. Some of the older ones, who have been there long enough to understand how to act with families and kids, are helpful and very kind. But a lot of the younger ones have a self-important swagger and treat everyone, even fellow cast members, like dirt. I work at an amusement venue; it’s not a major crime hub, so a corresponding attitude would be appropriate.

Once in the store I work in I bought several bottles of soda so I just stacked a few of these things in my cart:

The cashier said I could leave them at the register. I said I'd just take them out to my car and bring them right back and started to walk away. She chased me saying "You can't! You can't!" or something like that. Yeah, I've worked there for several years just to steal a couple of useless plastic thingies.

I don't know how many weeks she worked there.

Cops have bothered me a couple of times for not following signs perfectly in the middle of the night when there was nobody around. Things like "No Right Turn" signs.

I don’t think I’ve been harassed by any of those people directly, but there was this one lady at a food place who kept asking if one small bowl of soup was enough for me. It was, but it really wasn’t her business how much food I ate/needed. I know part of it was so she wouldn’t accidentally ring up a whole meal, but I felt a bit insecure about the situation regardless.
