The synopsis of S08E02 (School Daze Part 2) is as follows.

"When the School of Friendship is closed by Chancellor Neighsay of the Equine Educational Association, Twilight Sparkle must reunite her students, inspire her friends and buck the rules to stand up for what she knows is right for everycreature, pony or not."

My question is, since Twilight is an alicorn princess, shouldn't she be able to wave her position in Neighsay's face? Shouldn't she be able to tell Neighsay "Buck you I'm a princess" and get on with her life?

I may have some theories about this but I'd like to hear from you.

I think may not. Yes she is higher in rank, but if there is an educational system, which has not agreed, then she needs to listen. Otherwise she will give a wrong example to her subjects.

Princess Of Friendship is a position with no power. It was created as a political pay out to Twilight. Regardless, it is the definition of tyranny for a political leader to arbitrarily dictate what will and won't happen, with no regard to law or due process.

Equestria must have a bureaucracy with reasons for doing things. We really don't know how much power these agencies have. What is the appeals process? Is there a separation of powers? It is very dangerous to put all the power in the hooves of an oligarchy and hope that it remains benevolent. Will Flurry Heart become ruler of the Crystal Empire just because of her mother?

Okay, it's true that the position of "Princess of Friendship" gives Twilight no political power but that's probably not what it's supposed to be for. It's probably supposed to make her be something along the lines of Equestria's mascot for their message of "Love and Tolerance" for the world to see.I mean, I can't really see Friendship getting you far politically. Politics is just a game of pretty words and backstabbing those you believe have served their usefulness to you once you've achieved your goals. It's all about using others to gain power over everyone else in government.
