The Consul thought for a moment, "Well, the Judges have been prepared so you'll be taking him to them once you catch him rather than bringing him back here. I won't force a meeting with your former sibling either. I don't know how well you got along with the local changelings, but if you could pass my thanks on to Bling for the excellent time her casino and hive provided while I was there I would appreciate it. But in terms of work, no, nothing else is required of you at this time."

"I didn't get in their way, they didn't get in mine. For changelings, they seemed harmless enough, so I at least got no beef with them.

I'll pass along the message to Bling, if I find her. She's probably held up in that old theater of hers, so shouldn't be too hard to track her down. Were gonna go there anyway, to hear if they had seen anything, that'd lead me to my target. They seemed the sort who took notice in a fair bit of things, throughout the city."

Seemed not a ton were asked of her, yet there were still work to be done, of course. Might be they had time to actually act like tourists for a bit though. That'd be nice. Weren't alone time, since Ardee were there too, but y'know, it were important to show her things too, and let her learn of stuff. She'd been too stuck down in the ground for too long, and could use some experiences.

All were in agreement then. Once they had left the Consul's office though Ardee had some questions, "The Consul is an Alicorn, right? that's what the little ones were supposed to be, what makes Alicorns different? Other than being bigger than normal ponies."

"Also, he said you have a former sibling? What's that about?"

They had barely gotten out, before question time had happened. Were better than it going on in there she supposed, and the curiosity made sense. Especially if you had never seen an alicorn before. As for the last question... It made Null's right eye tick, but she'd try and get through it, when she reached that answer.

"Alicorns are pretty much a demi-god pony. Magic, flight, stamina- They got what all the three regular breeds got, but dialed up substantially, on top of being ageless. The sort of magic they have, are the only real tools there is, for getting the sun and moon in motion. Don't ask me how that whole thing works though. I really have no idea. That sorta magic is beyond me, though for a long time, I figured it were just an Equestrian thing. Like they had their own sun and moons, rather than those who circle the whole world. These days... I don't feel so sure anymore.

And my sibling... A half sister, I only learned I had, after the last time we were in New Las Pegasus. We didn't realize before some regrettable things had happened, and we left on a bad note. I dunno if I should tell you about that whole thing though."

She'd look towards Arcade, questioning with her eyes, if he thought that she were to shed details, as she weren't sure if this weren't the sort, that were best just kept to themselves.

"She's been afflicted with the curse that Void and I used to have, but worse. It ain't looking good, but... I'm hoping someday, I'll find something out there, that can help her. If she wants that help, that's another thing, but I ain't giving up on her yet."

Soon enough they were ready to head out and see whatever in town Void wanted to show them on the way to the school

It were a short trip away from the market, but it would present the group with a fascinating sight. A vendor with several large cages, where some of them needed to have shade overhead, to cover for the eggs, as the chicks shouldn't get sharp light in their eyes. It weren't good for their health, before their eyes had adjusted properly. As for the cages, they filled a lot of room, but there were few younger pygmy ghost vultures in them. They were the sort that liked to have space to move around in, but were they not in th cages right now, they'd likely fly off to explore, as they were yet young, and curious. They still needed to learn a few things before they could go out, and in a few cases, still needed flight feathers, as a few of the youngest, lumbered around in smaller nests on the ground, resting, and gathering strength.

Their feathers were very dark and brown, compared to the elder ones, but that were due to them not getting the iconic, wispy looking, bone-white feathers, until they reached maturity, with them going through several stages. The youngest had brown feathers as their first, with the curious sorts going towards grey. The next stage, would be like the adult specimens, that were rosting on perches, set up around the vendor. A few of them chewing on pieces of meat, signaling they had just been fed, before they showed up. Except for one, so they'd be able to see the vulture open its beak, and take the offered piece of what were likely dune fox meat. Revolting for most, but the birds found it fair game, and they were needing to cull the population of those things, now and again, as it were. No need wasting the meat, when it could be used for pet food.

The younger birds looked at the ponies with interest. The adult ones too, though more reserved, while the pony manning the stall, turned to give them a wave.

They'd actually hit at a fortunate time, with the vendor perking his ear, then encouraging all of them to get near the shades cage, where an egg were about to hatch. All the adult birds, were watching closely now, as they were rather protective of their eggs, but they were trained well, and would not do anything rash. Just observe.

And if they in turn, observed the eggs, they'd see two hatch, in rapid succession, with the small heads of the chicks popping out, and slowly beginning to chirp loudly. Their chirps, sounding like a raspy old lady, trying to make some, it still made a few of the other birds restless. The vendor would have to open the cage, and let one of the older ones inside, to tend to the chicks.

They'd need to move soon after, as the vendor needed to handle some things now, because there were more hatchlings, but he would mention briefly - with a smile on his tired, wrinkly face - that he never tired of hearing new eggs hatch. It reminded him, that they could still save a nearly extinct species.

When they were some way from this, halfway to the school, Void would turn to the others, and ask them something.

"So, what did you think?"

A honk from her belly, were an answer from Lacuna at least, who had hid there. He were spooked about the predators, and did not want them to see him.

Arcade took the initiative on adding details, "Her... adoptive father tried to kill me, and he ended up dying when we fought back."

Ardee nodded at that, "I guess that makes sense why things would be tense between you then."

She didn't have further questions and would simply follow along as the final preparations were made. The documents were delivered shortly thereafter and they included a reasonable stipend of the local currency, a booklet on what was already known about the city, some of the information having come from Null's own reports, as well as a reccomendation that they book lodging in either the Top Suits or the Æther-Luxe. There was a warning to avoid staying at the Tartarus Pits for too long.

Unless Null had something else she wanted to do before they left, they'd be able to meet up with the group outside the city, and the travel would begin as the sun started to set.

(Void)

The young ponies were awestruck as they got to see everything, and everyone, around them as they traveled, the little ones vocalizing almost nonstop as they traveled, though they didn't struggle to escape their bindings. They didn't show any hesitation towards the birds like their siblings did, though they did quiet down when they were lifted to better see the hatching egg. They didn't start vocalizing again until after they had left the vendor.

Null raised an eyebrow as she heard that part.

"She... *sigh* Y'know? Why not. Let's just roll with that."

The little semi-homeless, charity changeling, now managed the large hotel and casino she had seen, when she were last there? She wouldn't believe it if anyone else told her, but the consul... Why would he lie about this, yeah? It sounded mighty weird, but she'd work from the assumption that he were telling the truth, and then approach things with that in mind. Might make it mighty awkward though, if Bling had made a connection between the mare who had vanished, and the death of The Grey, and Ace, at around the same time.

"They probably tried making new alicorns, so they could run the sun and moon themselves, after Celestia and Luna were gone. But I'm guessing they couldn't make it work, cause there's so much more magic in alicorns, but they're probably better off this way. Worst case, they'll end up growing fairly tall, with similar hair, and get folks making connections. The power... I dunno. I heard there were a newborn alicorn, in the Crystal Empire, so it seems the signs are there early, but it's hard to tell. Best to do is just wait and see, and if nothing happens, then be thankful about that. Ain't right for them to be saddled down with stuff like that."

It seemed Arcade wanted to tell some, but not the whole story. That were probably for the better. It wouldn't put Null in a good light, and she did not like to speak about it. Nor even really thinking about it. She still felt very unclean, when she thought about what she had done, and the longer she lingered on it, the worse it got.

"It didn't help, that's for sure. *sigh* Hopefully there'll come a time, when we can get past it though. Life's a long affair sometimes."

It seemed that were the end of things for now, thankfully. So there'd be time to pack up, and for everyone to say hi to their families before they left. Null felt better saying proper goodbye for now at least, though she should be back in a week. Two at worst, if they messed something up, and missed the first transport home.

She were pleasantly surprised to find, that they'd have some currency allowed them, for the travel. It weren't a huge amount, but it should cover food and lodging for the trip, long as they spent it wisely, and didn't do dumb stuff, such as gambling. Null had a fair few vices, but thankfully, gambling were not one of them. And Cabinet Mare, did not count.

When all were said and done, they'd be at the gate, all geared up for the trip, and preparing to take off, along with the rest of the group. Should be a fairly simple trip, but they'd see.

"They're popular. Or they used to be at least. After the fighting, not a lot of them remained. See, the pygmy variants you saw there, will not willingly leave the town they have grown up in. This is because the full grown Ghost Vultures, that Elef have seen out in the dunes, will attack them on sight. The ones out there are wild, and untamable, but usually do not care to interfere with ponies. Yet there's something about seeing these smaller ones, that makes them forgo that entirely, so they learn from other bird around town, that outside the walls, are too dangerous for them.

That sadly stayed true, when Troy were originally attacked, and they flew back to the town by instinct, even as they were shot fromt he skies. Were it not for the few eggs, and unconscious young birds smuggled out, their species would have died out there. And it took a long time, for Trojans to first breed these more docile, friendly variants in the first place.

Things are going better now, and this vendor, as well as his daughter, are working on revitalizing the species now. In fact, he told me recently, that his daughter is planning to go to New Las Pegasus, with one of the next caravans headed there, with a clutch of eggs, and a sedated female bird, well covered up, that can help care for the eggs as they hatch. He believes the way to help revitalize their species, have to include making them more spread out, to more places, so they have a better chance, if a particular area is attacked again. New Las Pegasus have the same climate, so it's an obvious place to start. I'm just hoping their plan bears fruit, though at least it is working here. There's slowly starting to be interest in them again, now that things are calming.

And don't worry about Lacuna. He's hiding because... Well, Cacklers are their natural prey, and so they're used to hiding when one comes around, to try and avoid getting eaten."

She'd begin to walk, as they were about halfway towards the school. Wouldn't be far after she were done speaking, that they'd actually be there, and see the first teacher. That being Opal, who were sitting outside, and speaking with a smaller, red dragon, walking on all fours. His ears would perk - the left one torn - and would turn to see who it were. His right eye were charred and scared around the socket, yet it were not empty. Instead, there sat a glass eye in there. Which were obvious, as the iris were not the same color as his regular eye. Instead, it were in a blended hue, of snow-white, light blue, and orange, with his real eye being yellow.

Void would lift a hoof in greeting as she saw him, and he'd nod in turn, before turning back to Opal, doing the same, and then prepare to leave.

"I'll see you later, Croak. And say hi to the hatchlings from me."

He'd grunt a response, then be on his way. Unless topped, they'd be with Opal alone, soon after, as he wandered off.

"Hey there, kids. It's so nice seeing all of you. Here to inspect the school before your first day?"

Comparing this trip to the previous journey, there were far less dangers present in the form of Spawn, of which they only saw maybe three at a distance, and none attacked the caravan. Though they did see an increased number of dangerous wildlife in the form of stone-crabs and silt-scorpions, indicating that the wildlife population was now in the rise in the absence of the Spawn. These predators would give Ardee ample practice with her bow while they traveled.

When the caravan stopped for the night the three of them were approached by an older earth pony mare. She had a kindly demeanor about her, like a young grandmother, "You three seem awful young to be making this journey by yourselves. A shame, you must have been quite young when everything happened." She sighed, "I had hoped that giving up my place on the Æther that more of you young ponies would have gotten aboard, but I'm sure there are other reasons. I'm proud though, that ponies as young as you have survived this far, though it saddens me that you had your foalhoods so rough."

She chuckled ruefully to herself, "Forgive me, I suppose I'm just an old mare seeking company. My name is Lemon Sorbet, what are your names?"

(Void)

The young ponies smiled at Opal, happy to see one that they recognized among the sea of unfamiliar creatures, the familiarity overcoming the hesitance they had previously shown. Teal nodded at Opal's question, "Miss Void and Miss Vale are showing us around so we don't get lost. This is our first time out in the city during the day since we arrived."

Toupé followed up, "We're looking forward to learning from you. Will you be teaching us every day? Or only some of the days?"

Bit of wildlife increase but no big deal there. Though the increase in scorpions, did indicate that either the dune foxes were diminishing in size, or they kept far away from these travel routes. probably the latter, and the little ones had figured that out, and went for these places more, to avoid being eaten. The smaller scorpions at least. While not affected by the poison of the larger ones either, they tended not to hunt something larger than their heads, if these were big variants. Stuff that size, could use claws, though they would still give hunt, if hungry enough. They'd just have to get some help in that case, and thus, share the meal.

Their population would have to be thinned, but that would likely come, when the ruins of the old cities would begin to be reclaimed, as they dune foxes had mostly taken shelter in those, and made them generations worth of their homes. It'd probably be best to leave at least one of the areas for them in fact, to avoid them going around, aimless, and potentially invading civilized areas, in a desperate mixture of familiarity and hunger. Cull the population, and ensure that while they can roam the desert, they'd still have a reliable place to live, and water to drink. They were still important to the ecosystem after all, due to them hunting scorpions.

The sight of spawn were something which made Null tense up, preparing for a fight, but they did not seem to either notice them, or care. Maybe with the gates closed, they had no real goal anymore... One could hope.

Null at least, would be looking at how Ardee would be training with her weapon, sitting around, a bit for herself. She liked this more. Felt more familiar, than being in the midst of a larger gathering. Not really her cup of tea, to feel surrounded like that, if she had a choice. She liked more being able to see others, and not having to get the feeling of being circled in, with no escape options.

She were considering shooting a pellet from her blow dart too, to test out here in the wild, how it were functioning now, but were interrupted, when the elderly mare approached them. She'd wait until Lemon finished speaking, to give her rebuttal, then speak in a neutral tone.

"My name's Horizon, and while I might look small, I'm past thirty. This war, the hell it brought... Not anything good, but there's far younger, who had it way worse. Least I got through my foalhood, before the planet turned into a nightmare.

But thanks anyway. And good on you too, for making it this far. A shame there weren't more that did."

She'd look over the desert, and spot some skulls, of those mostly long gone, fallen due to this war. There were more down there, under the dunes somewhere, but the desert swallowed all evidence over time. Eventually, all would be swallowed by the unforgiving sands... Least it counted as a kind of burial, she supposed.

As for how she answered the mare... She remained neutral. She were not, and couldn't get herself to be angry with her, despite apparently thinking that Arcade and her, were small foals. Had to come up sooner or later she supposed. been a while, so it weren't grinding at her as much, and this were clearly not said in a bad fashion. Just an honest mistake, by someone trying to be friendly. Nothing wrong with that.

"You say you were offered a seat on The Æther, huh? Makes you the second one I've run into. Other pony, kinda weird, asked them to take his little sister instead of him. It's admirable in a way, to give up guaranteed safety for others, though rough. Not much good that's come to pass for those who've lived through the crisis.

Are you some sorta scientist too? I figured that place mostly just picked up smart ones, to make a sort of... I dunno, utopia for the brainy sort? I'll admit I don't know a lot about it."

Opal were sitting down, head held low, so the young ones could see her more eye to eye. Always made her happy to see smiling little faces, be it dragon, gryphon, equine- Didn't matter. Something nice about the innocence of children, that were looking to learn, and viewed the world with a sort of wonder, that she never thought she'd tire of.

"It's nice to hear you're being shown the way to school. Please don't mind my grumpy friend from before. Croak is a nicer dragon than he looks, but he's a stubborn sort."

"I know. He came into our workshop, for the eye."

"He's told me about that. It's really sweet honestly.

Anyway, back to your question, young ones. I am not sure if I will be teaching you every day. It depends on the classes you'll have, but I'm sure we will see a lot to one another, and have some nice classes, and of course, field trips. Best way to learn about nature, is out and experiencing it, and seeing the wildlife and plants up close."

She'd lean further down, so that she could see all of them more eye to eye, rather than standing above them.

"It will also sometimes entail, that you'll have to ride on me, to keep you close, and safe. Have any of you ever ridden a dragon before?"

If they answered no, she'd smirk a little more, and ask if they wanted to try. She did not mind really, even as many of her kind did, and found it demeaning. It were good fun, and a great way to keep track of a full class. One good thing about being too large for these buildings there at least.

They were all surprised by that question, and in no small measure excited by the prospect. They all shook their heads while Vale commented, "Ride you? All the dragons I've ever met had far too much pride to ever allow themselves be ridden."

Nonetheless, she would not object if Opal offered to let the young ponies ride her then to practice, though she would offer to hold the foals safely on the ground rather than have them go flying as well, asserting that they were far too small for such an activity.

But like you, it helps having experience. Always been a loner, but times change. Just gotta hope most of the changes are good."

She honestly didn't have it in her, to even get really annoyed at this mare, for thinking she had been a filly. Like she said, others made the same mistake, and she honestly didn't much care to get all up in a tip over something that trivial. Not when it were just... This. Weren't like there were any malice to it.

Null listened, though her eyes were briefly on some movement, over the dune. Would turn out to just be two of the local Rose-Noses Dune Foxes. Bigger pups from the looks of it, out and exploring, now they weren't under constant guard, and probably hoping to grab a snack out of the local animals. They'd stop up, and look down towards them, with their eyes, shining in the light, but they wouldn't move closer, and soon after stopping, one would nibble the others ear, and they'd start to play-fight, as they tussled down the dune, in the opposite direction, and going out of sight. Cute little things really. A shame no one had ever really gotten hang of how to tame them though. They were probably the closest thing to just regular dogs, that they had in the area, and would have, for a long time. Though who knew? Maybe someone now would have the guts to really try and go through with taming them, and being successful. Or breed out the more wild aspects, like had been done with the Ghost Vultures, back in times long gone by. Could be nice with one of them really. They always looked so fluffy, when she had seen them from afar.

"Looking forward to seeing the Æther too. Some local folks who have members on there, that they are pining for. Still some time to go, but at least it gives us time to try and rebuild before then. Give them something to get back to, and all that.

And yeah, we've been. Or Arcade and I have anyway. Was just a short trip. Some stuff happened in town, not sure what. Something about gangs acting up? A whole mess, but hoping it's settled down now.

You been there before, Lemon? If not, I hope you don't mind changelings. A fair bit of them there, though they seem harmless enough. Bit noisy I guess, but y'know, could be worse."

"Pride is a central part of us dragons, so being someone's riding animal, just doesn't work well with that. But when I realized I loved being a teacher, I had to confront some of my pride, and accept that some things were okay, and to take some pride in my work instead of just, the appearance of things. It got better over time, and these days, I really don't mind it. It's by far the safest way to have students around say, scorpion nests, whilst still showing them things, and knowing I can bring smiles to the young ones faces, makes it worth it for me.

That said, I only really accept it from the young, and those who're hurt. It's different with adults, thinking I'm some sorta pushover. Have to put my foot down there. All four of them in fact, heh.

But come on, anyone who wants, go up and have a seat, and I can walk around with you a bit. No flying today though. Have a bit of a wing injury, so that will still take some time."

She'd let Vale up too, seeing as she held the foals, and that made it an acceptable situation for her. And when all were sat snuggly - perk of size, that came with a lot of negatives too sadly - she'd wander calmly around, taking a trip around the school, slowly and methodically. Gave them a chance to get a good look at the building too, which she figured they'd like. As for the ride itself... Well, she thankfully didn't have spiked scaled, but more smooth, flexible ones, like a giant snake essentially. The top layer anyway. It'd still be hard to get through. Not impossible though. She had the wounds to prove that, in a few places on her body.

Void would follow, keeping a look on everything, though even if someone seemed about ready to fall, Opal would catch them. Either by stretching out a wing, and use it to get them, or quickly moving out a hand to catch them. She were sadly used to that. Normally at least one that fell off, before they were used to the feeling of riding around. Thankfully no big injuries, before she got more aware. Mostly bruised knees, and tears. Regrettable, but thankfully nothing major.

Looking forward to seeing the Æther too. Some local folks who have members on there, that they are pining for. Still some time to go, but at least it gives us time to try and rebuild before then. Give them something to get back to, and all that.

Vale turned down the offer, citing that it would be best for the foals to remain on the ground until they were bigger. No sense taking that risk, even if they wouldn't be flying today.

The other three had a wonderful time riding up so high, but they showed an abundance of caution with the exception of Elef, whose instincts kept him a bit flighty, taking to the air at the slightest shift of the ground, in this case Opal, under his hooves, only to gently land again a few moments later as he forced himself back down. Teal and Toupé held tight where they could, but still turned their attention towards whatever Opal pointed them at.

When it was time to get off, none of them hesitated, and they seemed still excited at the prospect of doing it again one day, and potentially even flying with her.

I figure there's a fair chance a lot of us that're left, will get to see the return. Wo's coming back, is something else entirely. No telling what happened on The Æther, or who they picked up over the years."

"No queen, but they seem to have banded together around the remnants of a local hive. Hive Cheshire, I think the name was. Not the biggest fan of changelings myself, but they seemed harmless, and just focusing on helping their own. These days, that doesn't seem like such a bad idea. You'll probably run into them in town sooner or later.

Not the only nest of them I heard there were. Some queens even, out and about. I think I heard something about a Quarry somewhere? Black...Water? Bah, can't recall right now. Weren't listening in proper at the time. Just wanted to get to the point, that it seems their sort are gonna be okay. Some of more unseen and reclusive sorts I'm more wondering about, like dryads, evergrown, kirin, and such. Not sure how much they've dealt with the shift in things.

But I guess we'll see eventually. North Point, that quarry place, Troy- Eventually we're gonna see contact between the survivor camps again, and we'll have a chance to take stock of who's left. If we're lucky, not that many species will be completely gone."

"There you go, I hope you enjoyed the grand tour. The little rascals will have to wait for another day, but I'm sure that they'll enjoy it, when the time comes.

But for the rest of you, I could only give the outside tour. Can't really fit in this, nor any of the other buildings, but maybe there's something I can answer about here, before you go in? If not, then I hope you have a good tour of the school, and get familiar with it. It might be a little jarring at first, but I'm sure you're going to enjoy the place."

She'd sit and be patient, waiting to hear if they had something to say, or ask, with a smile on her face. If not, then she'd wave at them, as they likely went to go inside, and have a better look of the actual class rooms. Sure they could see something when they were outside, but it didn't give the proper view, of being inside, and getting a proper feel for the room, and the atmosphere.

Lemon shrugged at Null's talk of changelings, "Can't say I was ever too close to them. Sure I've met a few, and they never stuck me as anything to be worried about, but I'm glad to hear they survived all the same."

That said she stood back up to leave, "I should get to bed, it wont do to hold up the caravan by being tired tomorrow. I hope you sleep well too." With that she would wander off.

The next two days of travel went similarly to the first, in that they weren't very eventful. They passed the ruins of the observatory, which now looked like it had been picked over by scavengers, as almost all of the glass and metal was gone, leaving behind the sandstone and marble that made up the building.

The end of the second day they rested on the mesa where Null had originally found the foals. If they went to investigate they'd find that the entrance had been sealed, securely at that.

It was the morning of the third day that they arrived at the city proper, their caravan greeted by a welcoming party prepared by the casino owners (Since you had such a great welcome the first time, I wonder what Bling could organize with the backing of the other leaders?)

(Void)

The young ponies were quite excited as they got off of Opal, each thanking her in turn. In regards to questions, Teal asked, "So, do all dragons get as big as you eventually? Or do only some dragons?"

Once they got their answer from Opal Vale would show them around inside the classroom, and explain how the classroom setting typically functioned, before preparing to take them back home. She paused as they gathered in front of the building, looking out at the market. She moved over to Void, "I know we just fed them food from the market yesterday, but do you think it would spoil them too much if we did it again tonight, only this time showing them the market in the process?"

The last time she had arrived, Null remembered a seemingly impromptu, minor welcome, by two of the changelings of Hive Cheshire. A small, yet nice gesture, to try and make newcomers feel welcome.

This time... Things were different.

Bling had done hers to try and convince the others that there were a good reason to make the travelers coming to their city feel welcome, as well as enticed to go look around, and spend resources in town. The casino's especially, or whatever side business they otherwise held. It would also be a good way for them to have a solid image, which were needed, since they wanted to draw in new customers after all, and make connections tot he outside. She kept maintaining that while she wanted others to feel welcome, it were also a financial decision, as the better the word got around New Las Pegasus, now that trade routes would start to open up again, the more would likely come and gamble. And they'd surely like that.

So she'd arrange something, and do what she could, to get at least some support. A welcome desk to provide maps, directions, and some things like buffet vouchers were her first idea. She'd be the first to have some vouchers added there, for the weary travelers, to be able to enjoy a nice buffet. Which would get them into the casino granted, but the others had the option too to add their own vouchers, or other ways to entice, right there at the welcome desk. The place would only be manned when there were news of new folks coming to town, and would then be manned by a changeling, called Fizzle. A rather generic drone, that usually worked as a street sweeper. Not something that paid a lot, and the hours were long, but he found it nice and relaxing. The welcome desk gig were an extra duty, that offered him an additional way to support himself. He even managed to get himself a better broom from it a few days past, so he were nice and happy.

Beyond the desk, where he stood all cleaned up and nice, in a second-hand suit (he didn't mind. It were still prettier than his sweeper outfit), there were a stage set up. As the travelers approached, a chilly mist would roll out, from a hole in the scene. A certain Zebra were in a room beneath. His concoction were mostly used by him to induce his fear illusions, but it were at the base, a suggestive thing. Adding some other elements instead, would cause a different effect, whilst looking like they were just making use of a smoke machine.

They got closer, and a few musical instruments started to play. A flute, a violin, and so on. It were rather classy things, yet as they approached, the volume would pick up, as several changelings, and a few ponies, would show themselves on the stage, playing their melodies, whilst a few more like tuba, got added, making for more of a concert feel. Then came out Florence, dressed and preened, as she began to lay more background sound with a low'ish song, adding to the atmosphere. The *smoke* should begin to kick in by then, making the area take on a more magical feel, with small lights floating in the air, and the distant sound of cheers mixing in.

Then along came Bling and Upbeat, dressed in their usual clothes, though cleaner, and having been recently repaired proper. They had the option of going in suits and such, but neither liked that. It felt wrong to them.

Either way, they'd give a welcome greeting, standing on each side of the open gate, and bidding welcome the new arrivals. And as they passed the gates, the two would flutter up, meeting front hooves to front hooves above, and with an orange flare, would transform into theatrical looking phoenixes. The sort who were bigger, and more outrageous than they would be normally. They'd then separate, flying around and in tandem write *Welcome to New Las Pegasus* in magical fire above them, before settling down, and make a bow, transforming back as they did so. They wouldn't be here for all of them, but Bling were trying to be on good hoofing with the Trojans, and she had a bit of free time to work with right now.

The other casinos might have made their own things in regards to this too. This were but her contribution to the festivities. And when done, she'd approach them more normally, with her brother next to her.

"Welcome to New Las Pegasus everyone. It is a delight to see you all. Some of you, are not here for the first time-"

She'd smile at Arcade and Null.

"- but for those who are new, my name is Bling, and this is my brother, Coverup. We are the leadership of the local changeling population, among other things. Have you had a good trip?"

"We dragons grow all of our lives. I might seem big to you, but there are... Or at least were, a lot of dragons larger than me. And elder dragons tend to be the biggest of us all, as they have lived the longest. The same way I could hold one of you in my hand, the same way an elder dragon could be holding me.

I couldn't be in town if I were of that size. Not unless I used some shrinking magic, but that's not something that many can make use of, that I heard of."

When they'd leave, they'd get her waving goodbye, and when they'd return later, she were gone. She had forgotten something for class, and wanted to go get it, so she could have everything nice and ready out here.

"I think that's a wonderful idea. They've been very well behaved, and attentive. I think they deserve a little treat like this. How about you take the lead, and show us what you'd think might be interesting? I know you brought food yesterday, but I'm curious as to your process, if that's okay? I can try and show something else after if you'd like, and we can see what everyone would find the most delicious looking. Maybe a mixture.

Would everyone like this? It will take a bit longer before we're home, but you'd get to see more of the market."

Void did not think they'd mind, yet she still asked, as it were the kind, polite thing to do, and she wanted to be polite and kind to the darling ponies. They deserved happiness, positive interaction, and respect. And she'd give it to them, as much as she were possibly able to. Though the thought kept luring in the back of her head: What if they were to be adopted, and separated? She were... Worried about that. She didn't know if others would treat them well, and she'd honestly miss them greatly. Hadn't been long, but she considered herself very attached as it were. Maybe... She should have a talk about this later, with Vale. Thinking on it all by herself, didn't seem to get her far, and she did not want to trouble her parents with this.

She didn't have to work too hard to convince the dragons or the Host, but the cloud remained characteristically aloof, citing that it would be contrary to their established brand to offer anything for free. But they were willing to fund some of Bling's efforts for the smaller businesses.

While the Stacked Deck did have a hotel, it still wasn't ready for guests.

As all of the casinos were at the town center, the whole group would head that way, minus the guards who would report to the Embassy, leaving the tourists to enjoy their time unsupervised.

Throughout the theatrics, a certain pegasus watched from a rooftop. He was looking for some easy marks when he saw Null and Arcade in the group. Immediately leaving his perch to report back, his boss would be quite interested in this info.

The young ponies nodded at the idea, expressing their enthusiasm for the extra opportunity to spend time outside their room.

Vale would lead the way through the market, using her guiding magic to keep them on a safe path that wasn't too crowded, while also passing by the best foods. She suggested that they wait and see everything first before deciding what they wanted to try, which was convenient as the market was one big loop.

She sighed, "I know my body likely couldn't handle a pregnancy, as partial as I am, but I was considering adoption once I have a stable life outside of this. What do you think? Do I have what it takes to be a mother full time?"

The way she looked at the young ponies as she spoke, made it clear that Vale might already have some adoption candidates in mind.

"It's good to see that you're all getting a good idea of where to start, in our city. Hopefully, we'll get to see you more eventually, but for now, enjoy your time. And please stay on the main roads. You wouldn't want to get lost, before you even checked into your room."

It were also that if they wandered around with valuables, they might get jumped. There were a guard presence of sorts in their town, but things could still be too late, by the time they were there. It would be best to hopefully not have that going. Though just in case, she had also spread the word around, for those changelings that lived on the street, or had some free time, to look around, in case they saw tourists, and just make sure they weren't for instance, lured into an alley to be robbed blind. Wouldn't be full coverage off course, but eh more eyes, the better, yeah?

As for this group, she'd follow along with them. She were going in the same direction after all, though she'd go for someone in particular, and would flutter over, to the side of the trio, of whom she knew two of them. She'd land near Ardee, and smile at the young mare. Upbeat would stand up at the front, and help to lead folks along, in case they got lost, or just answer questions about what were seen, if anyone had any.

"Hello there! Those two I know, but not you. Are you a friend of theirs perhaps? Hopefully they haven't told you bad stories about our town, hm? Things were a little... Messy, the last time they were here, but it have gotten a lot better, I promise.

Did you like the welcome reception? It's been a while since we've done that, but we try and impress."

"Hey, Bling? While you're here, the Consul asked me to pass along his thanks, for the time at your casino. Sounded like he appreciated the stay."

Bling's wings fluttered in excitement as she heard that, and her grin increased, while she looked over at Null for a moment to respond.

"Oooh, that's good to hear. I've never met an alicorn before, and I got real nervous that I would disappoint him."

Null wouldn't drag them off path too much. She did want to show them one that made a more traditional Trojan dish. That being Ash Chili Sticks.

It were up for debate for many, if it were fair to call it a chili, considering how sweet it actually were, but botanically speaking, it were technically a chili. A strange one, that looked ashen white, like old charcoal. To make it appetizing, it had to be peeled, and dipped in a sugary substance, and cactus oil, that made them look somewhat akin to more dense candy-floss, in the shape of a corndog. It did taste nice though. A bit earthy, but sweet and light. You could also cook it with regular chili dishes, to add a tinge of sweetness to it, but it varied how much interest there were in that.

She for one, were getting one of those sticks. And then later, a bit of mild chili, as they wandered around. Traditional Trojan food were not for everyone. Including Trojans themselves, but she liked it. Gave her some nice, nostalgic feelings.

She'd also pass by a stand, that she saw sold a whole bundle, of thick, gnarled Blackroot. An ingredient that certainly lived up to it's name. The vendor even had the fruit of the odd plant stuck to it, which were great news to her. Most pickled the Boulder Beats - name given in parts due to them being very tough, if not cooked right, and due to them growing underground - to make them softer and tastier, but she had grown up, learning how to make it work in a stew. The result were better there in her opinion, even though it took a solid eight to ten hours to cook it proper. Not that many wanted to use the time, but to each their own, yeah?

The way she looked at the young ponies as she spoke, made it clear that Vale might already have some adoption candidates in mind.

It had been a great time, as they returned. They got to talk about what the foals had seen in town, whilst enjoying a variety of great meals, and speak further on their thoughts about the school. It felt like a wholesome, family moment, and she enjoyed every second of it. Even if she did most of the cleaning up, as the young ponies and the small ones, would eventually go and brush their teeth, then go to sleep.

She'd linger in the entry way for a bit, looking at them, as they went to bed, after getting their story. But they needed peace to sleep, and thus, she would start wander back into the main room, aiming to do the last bit of cleaning, and then taking out the trash. But Vale would intercept her at some point between the entry way, and the kitchen - might even be in the doorway itself - and start to open up, and confide in her, about something that almost made Void laugh. Not from thinking it were ridiculous, of course. It were just... To think she were not the only one, y'know?

She'd speak softly and quietly too, to keep this between them, yet her response would not begin with a word, but rather, a hoof on Vale's shoulder, before Void would look down at her. The look in her eye, being that of warmth, and joy. Much the same way she looked at the foals, but with more relief too.

"I think you would make a wonderful mother, Vale. You're attentive, inspirational, and obviously care deeply, for those you're watching over. Whomever got you as a mother, would be the luckiest little creatures in Troy."

She'd nod slightly towards the foals, indicating that she knew what the doe had implied.

"It's funny though. I were thinking about this too. Been so for days now. Just... Not been sure how to bring it up."

Ardee would step back a bit when approached by Bling directly, "Oh, um, I'm something of Arcade's sister. I'm Ardee, They haven't told me much to be honest, but it looks like this place has changed quite a bit since I last was here. Less on fire."

Ardee was referring to when they had all first been evacuated from the facility and they stayed in Las Pegasus for a short while before moving to the mesa facility where they were found.

She stood quietly while they talked before asking Null, "So, which place are we going to stay at? You mentioned the Top Suits before."

Vale looked touched by Void's words, "Thank you, it's been a pleasure working with you to help them." She sighed, "As much as I would like to adopt them, I don't think I could handle all of them by myself, and it would hurt me more to separate them." she shook her head, "Also, Ada, the thestral guard who helps with Elef, has started looking into adopting Elef herself. I thought you should know that."

"His sister? Awh, ain't that nice that he'd bring the family?

Surprised you're talking about fire though. This place hasn't been properly burning since... Ooof. If we're talking that far back, then yeah, it's definitely different.

I can assure you, there's a lot less things on fire now, and we're a much better, safer town, than I think we've ever been.

...That said, try and stay to the main roads please. Safe doesn't mean the same as perfect sadly, much as I'd like that to be the case."

"So were I, but Mr. House trusted us enough, to leave us the place, and we'll honor it, and his memory, and make it someplace he'd be proud of.

You should come see the theater too sometimes. There's a lot of shows going now again too. Even got a few from Troy in, you might know."

"Ah, so they did get here? That's good. Tried talking up the place, when I were told they could use some folks, before you took over."

"I owe you thanks for that. They're giving it a lovely bit of life. Florence is a peach, and Hizu... Takes some getting used to, but he's a good stallion at heart. And his show's certainly unique."

Talking on, they'd soon enough get to the hotel.

"And here we are. It changed a little since you were last here, but it's mostly the same. Didn't see a reason to change what works, all that much.

There's plenty of staff, that'll help settle in the guests. What say you that I help you look for a room? It'll excuse me from doing paperwork for a little bit longer."

"You can't avoid it forever, sis."

"Nope, but I can delay it."

"I think that would be good for Elef. They'd still be in the area, but he'd get to know his legacy better, by others who understands him, and his developmental needs, better than any of us does. And you can tell that he likes her, so I'm sure it'd make him happy, and feel wanted.

And I get your points too, about maybe it being too much for you alone, to take them all. I kinds had the same worries now and again. I don't want them separated, but I'd take a long time, to build on to the workshop, to make the backrooms into better living quarters. I could easily make it work for 4 or so, but beyond that, I'd have to get to breaking done some walls, and salvage some stone. I wouldn't mind, but it would take time."

She'd sigh, and lead them to a place, where they could have a seat and talk. Maybe... Maybe there were a solution, starring them right in the face here, and none of them had just brought it up yet.

"You know... If we're both having the thought, maybe they wouldn't have to be split up all things considered? I don't mean uhm... I-I'm not hitting on you. Oh my, I j-just heard my own words..."

Void lifted her hooves to her face, as she felt mentally like, she were choking on her own hoof. Gods, this were embarrassing... She'd need a few seconds, then try again, though she'd still look a bit reddish and flustered.

"W-What I meant were, that we could each adopt some of them. I'm not planning on leaving the area. Troy is... My home, odd as it still is to say it, so we'd be here, and always near when they'd want to meet up. And we'd both be good influences on them, I think."

She'd fiddle a bit here. It were a big thing to take up, but... Maybe this were a way that things could work? She had space, long as she made use of it properly, and she could make a home for the little ones and her, without disturbing her parents, and her little new siblings. She could probably get some help though, if she had to make more space, from Molotov. He had offered to help her with the workshop, if she needed more help. It weren't exactly what he meant maybe, but she might still take him up on that.

She knew that Vale and others, didn't really see what it were, that made her give him the extra leash, or attention, but she had been around him several times by now, and she saw past the dummy he sometimes frankly were. There were a good stallion behind that, that were just not good at expressing himself all the time. Even Null had to admit that he weren't so bad, before she left, and she had a history, of inflicting physical pain upon him. That were a good indicator to her, though of course, there were still a good deal of way, from being a good pony, to something more serious.

But to return to the young ponies... She had put up a suggestion. She wondered what Vale might think about that? Maybe she had been thinking something like that too?

Surprised you're talking about fire though. This place hasn't been properly burning since... Ooof. If we're talking that far back, then yeah, it's definitely different.

I can assure you, there's a lot less things on fire now, and we're a much better, safer town, than I think we've ever been.

Arcade spoke up, "To be fair, everything seemed to be falling apart when we left, to the point that the ambassadors and us left under armed guard. Still, it's good to see that things have calmed down since then."

(Null and Arcade left when the gangs were all rising up in the absence of the Grey)

There's plenty of staff, that'll help settle in the guests. What say you that I help you look for a room? It'll excuse me from doing paperwork for a little bit longer."

"You can't avoid it forever, sis."

"Nope, but I can delay it."

Arcade kept her head on a swivel as they moved towards the center of town, becoming a bit awestruck at the architecture on display and the scale of everything once inside the casino. "It's so big in here, just like..." she shuddered, turning her attention back to the floor rather than looking up at the high ceilings of the gambling hall, trying to shake off whatever memory had been conjured. "Can we go to our room now? I think I want to rest first, maybe eat something? The travel food wasn't all that good."

She chuckled at that, "It's alright, I'm not offended." She sighed, "Though that does bring up another concern of mine, that I've been on my own for so long, only really having myself to rely on, I don't think I've gone on a date in... well, ever. The closest thing I have to a partner is Pen, and that is purely platonic." Vale didn't look too sure, "That's true... not that I ever had plans to leave, but deer culture is naturally nomadic. I'd have to be ready to move on if and when the path calls to me, it would be unfair to both you and them if I had to leave them behind or split them up. She sighed, seemingly not satisfied with that solution either. But settled on leaving it alone for now, "I'll have to meditate on it, see what the path recommends. Thank you though for your encouragement, it does mean the world to me."

"Oh that time? I thought you meant back when the town was actually on fire, way back before it were retaken.

Still wasn't perfect when you were around, and there were a few trouble days after, but we were fine. Everything should be nice and calm by now."

There were still some she weren't sure of. Like the one who had tried to confront them, when Rasputin were around, but... She'd like to think that things were as nice and calm as they could be, all things considered.

"Can we go to our room now? I think I want to rest first, maybe eat something? The travel food wasn't all that good."

"Oh sure, we can get you to a room. But if you're hungry, we should start at the buffet. A fair bit of your fellow travelers seems to want to go there too, to take advantage of their free voucher."

"Not a bad idea really. Lure them in with free food, then hope they'll gamble in your casino."

"Well I mean, I do hope, but at the same time, I wanna give folks a good start to New las Pegasus too. Same reason I've made sure to get the help desk up and running. That it then also gets folks in to play sometimes, is just a happy coincidence."

The accountants said the investment were minimal, considering the net income that were possible to generate from it. And as the town would start to be filled with tourists again over the years, it would likely result in more of a net profit, all things considered. All about luring folks in through the doors, as they said. She knew this were part of the business, shady as it seemed, so she just let them do their thing, and have Ace and the others, run things as they knew best. She just had to deal with paperwork and such at the top end, but there were several good, hard working beings here, that made things run smoothly.

"Come on now, and once you got something to eat, we'll have a room sorted for you. You don't seem to have a lot of baggage, so we can go to the buffet right away."

And a fair bit better than the travel food it were. Crisp salad, tender meat, emotion gel, crepes, fruit, etc. It was a smorgasbord of various things to eat, and there were beings lined up around the buffet, taking in what they wanted, and heading back to their tables.

"You should try the crepes. They're nice and fluffy."

She didn't eat many things, that weren't emotion gel, but Bling had to admit, that she had taken a liking to those things. Especially when you put some emotion gel on it. Yummy.

She'd stop briefly, and raise a hoof to wave at a griffon that were going towards the buffet currently, as a matter of fact. Florence saw her, and would raise a hand in greeting, but then noticed who else were there, and would wander over. The elegant steps of the griffon, speedily getting her there, at which point shed smile down towards Null.

"Ah, whom would I meet, but my spark of hope, in a dim world? It pleases me to see you well."

"Hey. Seems like you're settled in."

"Notably so.  Ah, but things must be said first. Madamme Bling? I feel it prudent to warn you, that Pip and Scruffy, heard of the incoming caravan, and have taken up position at the pool tables."

"Oh for the love of- I need to get to them, and make sure they keep the hustling to a minimum. Enjoy a meal, and I'll be back soon'ish."

She grumbled a little, as she took off towards that section of the casino. Those two were great performers, and they drew in a crowd, but they were hustlers and scam artists down to the bone. A fresh batch of outsiders, were probably too tempting for them, even if some would know them already, from their time in Troy. So she had to go and reaffirm some ground rules for them, before she started to get complaints... Again.

"Troublemakers, but pleasant enough. I wouldn't leave my purse with them though."

"I were told to give the word out to performers, not judge how they are on a personal level.

Oh right. Arcade? Ardee? This here's Florence. Street performer from Troy, I let know about this place looking for talent."

"Charmed. But you must be famine after your travels. Go now. Gather a meal. I shall hold spots at my table for you."

"Well, mostly right.

I never been on a date or anything, but back when big sis and I started to grow... Uhm, back when I started to grow, I g-guess is more correct, there were colts who started to notice me. I almost went on a date with one of them... Then he tried to stab me, because he said we were *unclean*, because of our curse. Null got very protective after that, and I got even more nervous around others, so nothing happened again. Been some who showed interest, but I kept remembering this, and Null... W-Well, like I said, she were getting overly protective. It's the same reason that when Molotov started hitting on me, back in Ponyville, she went over and growled at him. When he ruffled her mane, and said that my kid looked adorable, she kicked him into a wall. Then threw a chair at him.

I uh... K-Know he isn't making good first impressions on many, and I were mortified back then, but he did apologize, and when the guard came, said it were his own fault, and he wasn't gonna press charges. It could've gone a lot worse, if he'd been vindictive.

So yeah. I guess my history's pretty bad on the whole dating front... But I'm sure there's got to be some sort of way to try and meet others. Dunno how to connect though. The only one I have that's going that way, sought me out... Maybe I could try asking around, where one might find others. Theres a few I know in town, who might have a better idea of all of this than I do.

...Now that you mention Pen actually, I've not been around to talk to her for some time now. Is she doing okay?"

I guess your points make sense though, if you're nomadic. I honestly do not know a lot about deer culture, so I take your word on anything related to it. I guess... I guess I have things to think about too now. Potential plans, some pros and cons... Y-Yes, I'll need to think too."

Void seemed fidgety, and gazed tot he sight, clearly pondering whatever or not to say something, that were weighing on her mind. She did not hide her emotions all that well, when she were caught in the moment. Wore them on her sleeve, as the saying went.

A-Anyway, I won't disturb you, if you're going off to meditate. I'll go see to the family. Maybe g-get some rest too, if I can. There's... *sigh* There's a lot to think about here, between me worrying about Ardee. I know Null is there to watch out for her, but I'm still nervous for her, being out there, in the big world."

Ardee would proceed to the available food at the first direction that it was available, taking a small sample of all that was available. Arcade would stick close to Null until she too went to the food, and would be a bit more selective than Ardee on what he selected to eat.

The two of them would nod in greeting towards Florence, Arcade responding, "Pleasure to meet you too, I'm sure we'll talk again soon."

They seemed content to let Null lead the way for now.

(I've got something planned for when they get to their rooms, Ardee will get her own small room attached to Null and Arcade's room.)

That said they would go their separate ways for the evening. The next day would be the first day of school, and Void and Vale's first day of just having the foals to take care of.

Null were honestly hungry, and thus, would go to the buffet rather quickly too, and took a bit of several things, with a preference for spicy, bitter, and sour. The latter two of which, weren't the most abundant, but there were a few things of interest.

Eating were simple. Florence would speak with Null a bit on how things had gone here, with her being thankful that she had an enthusiastic audience, as well as a consistent roof over her head, and the ability to have several meals per day. It were more than she had since the war began, and for most of her life prior to that, so she were thankful for what she had. Why, she even had some spending cash, which were a new, fascinating thing, though she barely used any of it, and were saving up instead, for a rainy day. She also mentioned she had repeatedly tried, and failed, to repay Hizu for his kindness, in paying so that she could come here to New Las Pegasus, but he were as steadfast on granite, on not wanting to accept her payment.

She even tried to leave the currency in his room, when he weren't there, just for her to find it sitting in her room, at most a few hours later. It were an ongoing battle of sorts.

It would also lead her to mention that he were thriving. After his shows were mostly toned down, it had become a fascinating sight for various audiences, to see what he'd think of next. He also had a history already, of dealing with hecklers, by adding them into the show. Such as tossing his lungs down at them, to give them more air to shout with. It were all an illusion, but with the mist rolling, it were too realistic for the ones in question to notice, and it tended to shut up dissent.  Tough one had gone further, and wished afterwards that she had not.

There were a warning on the door, that he might include participation from the audience, so the rare complaint, had been directed to look towards that sign, and due to them being hecklers, generally didn't get sympathy from others, staff or not, in the conversation.

He were also allowed some of his more intense shows. Every other Saturday, with warnings given out proper in advance, and waivers to sign, just in case, and he would not start it, if there were any with for instance heart problems, in the audience. He'd know if one tried to sneak in, and would inform them that they had to leave, before he could start, for their safety. Hadn't happened yet, but it were good to be prepared.

Bling had also arranged that he could do a very intense show, on Nightmare Night itself. One where he held nothing back, which were something of a promise, that had already caused some spread murmurs of curiosity and excitement. They'd already gotten twenty seats preordered in advance, which were not bad in her opinion, considering it hadn't even been properly announced yet. They were still working out the finer details, but the rumor itself, had been enough for some.

Bling were just happy, that the theater hall, whoever performed in it, were given as much attention as it were. It had been a travesty, to not have that place active, in her opinion.

Some chatter later, Bling would have returned, and would eventually lead them to their rooms. She had been around the desk, to see which they had, and they had two next to one another, which she assumed they'd prefer. One smaller one, and one more suited for couples. Something she said whilst looking at Arcade and Null, with a glimmer in her eyes, that made Null blush slightly.

As they'd eventually get there, they'd see the rooms. Modest ones, but that were fine too. They didn't need the luxury suites, and this had the things they needed. Carpets, light, clean sheets, night stands... A double bed for Null and Arcade's room...

Null mumbled something to herself, as she saw this, but thanked Bling so far. She'd wander off again, and tell them that they could sort out the finer details later. By which Null assumed she meant the payment. It were likely something less up front, as she knew that Null had gone with the ambassador, and thus, would know where to put a request for issues, in case she tried to bail out of nowhere. That were Null's guess anyway.

"Well then... Guess we'll finally be able to get a good night's sleep later on. Just happy it's not one of them fancy rooms. Least this reminds me of some inns I've been at with Void before. The fancy rooms would probably be jarring.

You think Ardee's alright in her room? Not sure how she's taking to things so far."

I mean, if they wanted you to go, would you? You have the right to make your own decisions after all. And if you do go, I can make sure to send letters. Tell you how they're all doing, in case it weighs on your mind. I wouldn't blame you if it did. I admit that I sometimes find myself worry about that, when I'm not here."

The more life had tossed at her in recent days, the more she felt distant from the idea of giving herself to Mercy. In parts due to this fear. That she'd be sent away, leaving the young ones, and her family, without her there. What would happen to them? Would they miss her? Would there be trouble, and she be far away? Null were already gone, and now, it were just her left here, with many lives depending on her. She had a hard time imagining that she could just leave it all behind. She didn't have the convictions, nor the deep rooted guilt, to just do something like that, like Null did.

She hadn't forgotten the offer after all. But she were thinking on it, and the prospect of leaving this place, were gnawing at her desire to say yes, as she thought that more than any place, this is where she belonged. This were her home, and those around her, the friends and family, that she had yearned for most of her life. It didn't sit well with her, to think of going away from them.

Maybe if things worked the way it appeared to be going, she wouldn't have to worry as much about that, as she feared, but... They'd see.

Next morning were fairly uneventful. Void would get up, and as always, start the day off, by feeding Lacuna. Once he were satisfied, and had had a sip to drink, he'd crawl up on top of her head again, while she'd be working on some lunch packs for the foals. After seeing what they ate over the last several days, and what they liked, she felt like she were getting a fairly good understanding, of what they'd like to eat. Including Elef, who'd get a jar of live crickets with some air holes at the top, to go along with his too. Hopefully this would do well, as she had tried to take into consideration, what he would prefer. Hadn't been hard getting these really. They were often used as pet food, so there were a few places you could get them.

Once everything were done, she'd pack it up, along with breakfast, and go to see her parents and siblings, if they were awake by now. Not much of a schedule there that could be held, as really, the parents had to sleep, when the foals did, to get enough of it. So if she saw no movement, or light in the house, nor heard anything, she'd leave them be for now, to get rest. Though sooner or later, she'd still end up back at base, where the young ponies were. She felt fluttering of nervousness in her stomach, about them going off on their own today, but the school and teachers, seemed safe, so... Hopefully it would be okay.

*knock* *knock*

"Goodmorning. Everyone's awake yet?"

Might not be, but who knew. They might be rather excited, and up earlier than normal. Or one of them foals would be up and running again, waiting for her to show up. Well, her and Lacuna. Peal and him seemed to get along very well.

Ardee had gone into her room first and started settling in as Null and Arcade entered their room. The two rooms were adjacent and there was a door that connected them, so Ardee would be able to come to them without going through the hallway if she wanted.

Once Bling started walking away and Null and Arcade entered the room, the door would close behind them, revealing none other than Epsilon, the Grey Mare herself, sitting there. "Vengeance Null, Arcade, you're looking well."

If Null moved to attack her either out of instinct at being surprised or any other reason, Null would find Epsilon no more than a shadow, something she could pass through, which would explain how she got in. "One of the gifts I got. My cloak makes me untouchable, while yours just made you resistant to damage."

She stood from where she had been sitting, "I'm here for a personal matter, if you would be so kind?" She was looking at Arcade and motioned towards the connecting door, but Arcade shook his head.

He turned towards Null, "Unless you're alright with it?"

If she agreed, Arcade would step out to help Ardee settle in, otherwise he would stay and Epsilon would shrug before continuing. "You left town rather quickly, and understandably so, but we still have a matter of unfinished business surrounding Cabin Maré. You mentioned wanting to have some part in her burial, and I would be remiss if I denied you that opportunity. I already buried her outside the city with the traditional Equestrian rites, but I can show you where if there's anything else you think ought to be done. I also have some of her ashes if you would like to do something with them. I never really knew her, not like you did, so it didn't feel right for me do decide alone."

She would wait for Null's response.

They were all up by the time that Void came for them, and they were for the most part ready to go, with the exception of the foals who were just excited because everyone else was.

Breakfast would be uneventful, and soon enough it was time for them to go. Vale would offer to walk them to school such that Void could stay back with the foals, or she could come along if she wanted to bring the foals along to say goodbye at the school building instead.

In either case eventually the young ponies would be at school, and Void and Vale would be alone with the foals at home, foals who were starting to notice that their siblings were missing.

(School)

The young ponies were the first to arrive at the school, Teal sitting in the front, with Toupé and Elef sitting in the row behind her. They were only there for a minute before their teacher for the day,  Gypsum the diamond dog. As they had already met she would engage in some small talk while they waited for the other students to arrive.

(Go ahead and have your student appear, then I'll bring in the others I had in mind and we'll get started.)

"Epsilon. You look... Thriving.."

She had been tempted to just say sister, yet her bond were not there, at this point in time. Perhaps one day it would, as she kept looking for ways to free Epsilon, whilst she were out there, to prevent her from suffering under the family curse, like her and Void had, but that wasn't there yet. Still, she expected that she would eventually slip up regardless. Epsilon might have disowned Void and her, but in the end... Were that really her showing she wanted nothing to do with them, or more her just freeing them, as an act of kindness? It got the curse off of them. That seemed more a gift, than anything else. Though she didn't know Epsilon's motives so far, so it were hard to say.

I already buried her outside the city with the traditional Equestrian rites, but I can show you where if there's anything else you think ought to be done. I also have some of her ashes if you would like to do something with them. I never really knew her, not like you did, so it didn't feel right for me do decide alone."

"If you got something to say to me, you can say it to him too. He knows pretty much all there is, between us."

She were a stubborn sort too, and didn't see a reason for Arcade to go outside. Not if it were related to anything with Epsilon and her, as she had said what were there. Same with Vengeance, and a few of the things that happened the ladt time they were here. She didn't see what reason there were for him to leave the room,. unless he wanted to himself.

What she were told though, did sting in her chest a little, and made her look briefly towards her bag. The minostralum coins were not in there. She had left those at home, unsure of what to do with them, including if the consul should just have them, but knowing she did not want to risk them getting stolen.

"I... Yes, thank you. I'd like to go and say a prayer over the grave. I dunno what to do with her ashes though. I didn't know her well enough, to know if she wanted to have it scattered somewhere.

Though... She made mentions of a sister. It was unclear if said sister were dead, been driven mad, or just ran for the hills. If she's still out there, the ashes should probably go to her. Might offer some comfort. And if she's dead, and buried nearby, it should be put down there. Just in case there's some peace after death that can be found. I've seen enough ghosts that's been stuck around, 'cause something kept 'em here... It ain't pretty."

She hadn't seen as many as there were, as she didn't have the sight that some did, but some spirits could manifest, and she'd run into several of those over the years. Not all that bad. One even were pretty hospitable and friendly, though they stuck, due to old grief. They managed to get him reunited with a diary, of one they'd missed, and it seemed to help them pass on. A beautiful sight really... Though most were ghosts driven mad, and those were dangerous as all heck.

She sighed, but smiled at that, "I do think I would go if asked. I might even ask to go if they don't. Given the good I was able to do with Pen, and your sister and you, I get the feeling that there are other misunderstood anomalies that I could help become good members of society. Still, I appreciate that you would keep me updated."

"Of course I would. They care about you, and you about them. I know that they'd want to know you were okay, and vice versa. As long as I knew where to send the letters to, I'd make sure that you'd get them."

Just another reason why she couldn't bear the thought of just having anyone adopt them, and spreading out the young ponies, over multiple families. She'd like to know how they were all doing, and be able to ease Vale's mind, in case she had questions. Plus, waking up, and seeing their happy little faces... Were there any better feeling than this? If so, she did not know it yet.

Breakfast would be uneventful, and soon enough it was time for them to go. Vale would offer to walk them to school such that Void could stay back with the foals, or she could come along if she wanted to bring the foals along to say goodbye at the school building instead.

Void figured it were for the best, to have the little ones see their siblings off, so they knew where they were, and thus, wouldn't get as worried, when they saw they were gone. Might still at first, but hopefully, a few days of them being there for both theirs siblings being sent off to, and picked up from school, and they'd feel more calm about things. The first bit here, were probably gonna get a little panicky for the little ones. But who could blame them? They wouldn't understand how things were, right? They just knew that when they didn't see their siblings for a while, said sibling were likely not coming back. Who could blame them, if they got scared?

As for their siblings, she made sure that they got their lunch along with them. Which included some snacks. Nothing major, but you know, something nice. Just to make the school day, a little better.

In either case eventually the young ponies would be at school, and Void and Vale would be alone with the foals at home, foals who were starting to notice that their siblings were missing.

"I know you probably don't understand it yet, but you don't have to worry. That building we took them to, with the nice dragon lady, and the other foals? They're there to learn things. One day, you'll be big enough to learn things too, and go there."

She were hoping they understood... Though she were expecting instead, that they might begin to cry. In which case, she'd try to scoop them up, into a big, comforting embrace. Poor little things, had to be so confused about things right now. getting to a place filled with stability, laughter, and safety... And now, their siblings were gone, and it were just the two of them, that they knew well. How could she let them face a potential future, where they might end up having to get used to their siblings never coming back, because they were with other families?

Though she still needed to sort the logistics of it, the more things happened, the more she simply just couldn't imagine all of them, being gone like that. With the exception of Elef, as she knew that he were going to be happy with the bat ponies. They had welcomed him with open hooves, and he always seemed more happy and spry, when he had been with them. It would be for the best, though she hoped he still came around often.

(School)

Cherish would come into class not long after. The filly were a bright sight in the class, due to her overall positive look, and colorful clothing, so she tended to be hard to miss. That said, her clothing had seen better days, with the dress being patched up, and a little faded over time, but it had been pretty messed up when she had shown up in town originally. The psychologist that she had gone to see for her trauma - like many of the other survivors had to - had some scraps of cloth in roughly the same color, some needle, and some thread. She had seen how much it meant to Cherish, as it were a gift from her mother, and thus, had not only sentimental value, but were a link between them, that helped her to make the filly talk to her.

In time, she had come to like the filly, and had eventually picked her up, and adopted her. It still took a bit for the filly to get used to, but feeling loved and accepted again... It brightened up her day, and helped her to keep her chin up, and a smile on her face. Though there were still hard days... But then, so were it for most of them, right? Hadn't been easy, and likely wouldn't be for a long, long time.

Still, some days had new, fascinating things to see and do, yeah? And sometimes, she evn got to do something, that helped distract her, and make others happy. Her eye for matchmaking were not much use these days, but her being able to sow well, had its perks. helped her keep her own dress in order, along with the clothes of several others. Seemed a more useful skill in the world these days anyway.

As for new things today, that seemed to be new students! And a lot of them too! It were always good to see new students, but these many? That she had never expected.

So she'd head for the first of them that she'd see, and beam towards them. Which did include her chest fluffing up a bit. Not the most common pegasus thing, but some had the trait, that made them puff up like a bird, looking for a mate, under some circumstances. It were not as massively though. Most of the time. It depended on the thickness of ones fluff, and Cherish had a fairly puffy bit of chest fluff. Nice when it were cold, but did make her seem a little silly sometimes, when puffed up. Thankfully the dress kept the most of it down.

"Hi. It's nice to see someone new I'm Cherish Sky. What's your name?"

She nodded at that, "I'll get you some directions then so you can go when you have a moment. It sounds like you have enough company already. Per her sister, I'll look into it, but unless they had similar names it might be difficult to track her down. I'll hold onto the ashes in any case until we have a solution."

She paused a moment longer before turning to leave, "If that's all then? Watch your step. While things have calmed here, it is still far from safe, especially considering who you're after." If they didn't ask anything else she would walk into the shadow that she'd appeared out of, then the shadow would vanish, revealing that the corner had previously been well illuminated.

There was a knock on the door that connected to Ardee's room, which would be revealed to be Ardee herself if they either opened it or waited a few moments for her to open it herself, "I'm just going to take a nap for a bit. You don't have to wait here for me if there's something you need to do."

The foals didn't so much understand Void's words as they picked up on her tone, and as Void didn't seem worried, they figured that there wasn't something to worry about right now, and would go back to enjoying themselves in the pile of stuffed toys that they so enjoyed before napping.

(Just as with Null and Void's siblings, I don't have much planned for the foals when the others are off at school. So if you have some ideas I'd be glad to hear them. Plus Vale can care for the foals if Void wants to take some time to do other things for a bit.)

Null did have something to say, before Epsilon would leave the room. The first being before she were walking off, and regarding who their target were.

"We'll get him, don't worry about that. I can't imagine he's gonna be too keen on staying hidden, once he sniffs me out. Not after I stole his weapon last time."

He seemed like he'd be the petty sort, y'know? Shame it also sounded like he hadn't learned his lesson though, and were continuing to do things, that would earn him a one way ticket back to Tartarus. Unless they were planning on judging him to be a tool for them, as a better usage of his supposed skill... She didn't understand Vengeance, or the whole order of these things all that much yet. And she got the sense that not even those who were heavily entrenched in it, like the consul, fully grasped all that were happening. Guess she just had to do the job, and then see what happened though, yeah? Only way to find out more.

So far all, that seemed to be certain, were that he had messed up his chance on the outside. Some folks just never learned, did they?

The other part she had to say, she would as Epsilon were about to walk back into the shadows. She wasn't sure if she should, but... It felt like she had to, even though Epsilon would probably not like it.

"...I'm sorry, for everything I've done to you."

She refused to give up hope, that there were some way of saving Epsilon, before she'd have foals of her own, and end up having to die by them, and toss them aside... All the things, that had plagued their bloodline for this long. It had to end, and she really, deeply hoped, that it would be before it truly rumbled down around Epsilon. She had lost too much already, and didn't deserve this fool's deal that she had made.

This apology, were nothing. Even though she meant it, she knew that it were just words, for her taking more from Epsilon, than she had any right to. In fact, it might just make her irate, and cause her to lash out. If so, Null wasn't gonna strike back, but just parry and dodge, if she could. She were not going to strike at her own blood like that. Half-sister or not, she did not care. Epsilon were still family, and she refused to go that route. She'd hurt all of them, more than enough as it were.

Whatever happened, even if Epsilon just walked away, Null would feel somewhat down, and saddened. Her head, troubled with thoughts, that she felt like she needed to get in line again.

So when Ardee came in, and said she'd be having a nap, that seemed as good of an idea as any. The trip had been long anyway. Best to recuperate some energy, yeah?

"We should probably rest too, Arcade, and gather our strength for later.

I'll uh... Take the left side."

It was a large bed at least, and they were not, so it were simple enough, for them to still lay apart. Didn't want to give Ardee some ideas or anything here, yeah? That was... Anyway, it'd be good with some rest. Might help her gather her thoughts a little.

Besides, she were not leaving Ardee alone in this hotel. Might be that she felt fairly sure that the few members of Hive Cheshire were fine enough, but there were a lot of other beings here, and no guarantee, that things wouldn't get worse. Going to the outskirts of town, with all of them, and their target in particular? No way that were happening.

So she'd brush her hooves off, unequip her saddlebags and such, and would jump up into the bed. Thankfully not one of those overly soft ones, where you almost drowned in them. Just a nice soft, yet firm mattress. Much more comfortable, than having to try and half-way swim out of bed, after a rest.

(At the gate)

Meanwhile, at the entrance to town, the worker who took care of the welcome stand, were almost done  packing up for now. Folks usually only came in via caravans, or larger groups in general, for safety, so he could go and close up the stand for now, lock up the vouchers, etc. A bit of work to do it, but hey, it were a living, along with the street sweeping. He honestly didn't mind it at all, though he looked forward to grabbing his trusty broom once more. It always got so dusty around the entrance, when new folks showed up.

Hizu were also closing up things. His cauldron took time to cool down, for transport purposes, so he still had a bit of work here. Including cleaning the cauldron. Might as well do it out here while he were at it, yes? Least he did not take more with him than he had to, so the travel back should be fairly easy.

That said, he were also awaiting someone, and soon enough, a smile would spread on his face, as a shadow cast near him.

"As the spirits proclaim, one with infamous fame."

A small pouch, in which seemed to contain a rectangular container, roughly the size of a lunchbox, would be slung up on the side of the stand he had been under, as he looked up, at the peculiar, hooded figure that stood above him. How he had entered by his lonesome... Hardly mattered, nor were it something he would bring up to others.

"Watcher of the forgotten."

The slightly growling voice, came before he would lower something of his own. A bag, the size of Hizu's head, that sounded like something metallic were rattling around in there.

"Til we meet again, stranger and friend."

"Sullen trails, and peaceful rest."

The two would nod towards one another, before the hooded figure would turn away, carrying the bag he had exchanged for, and calmly wandered down a side path, further into town. The dusty robe covered all, with the long hood, obscuring his face, and his steps seemingly making little to no sound. The tracks left behind him in the sand though, spoke of not hooves, but paws. Yet if one were to follow him, they'd find it would not take long, before his tracks would suddenly just be gone, with no trace of him to be seen anywhere. It did not appear, that this one wanted to be disturbed.

(Ardee)

Ardee did try to sleep. The first time she could remember being on her own in several years, she had thought she wanted this, but took note of what she missed. Above the sadness though, there was an itch in the back of her mind. She was free now to do as she liked, no one was depending on her, and she was in a brand new place.

She waited until she thought that Null and Arcade were asleep, then silently left her room. For now, she'd just explore the casino, just in case they woke up and missed her. She wrote as much on a note that she left on her pillow for them. It made her nervous, going out on her own like this, but it also excited her. She'd head to the theater first, just to see what was being preformed at that moment.

(Void)

(Remember, anything you want to do with Void is fine by me but if you want to give her a break that's fine too. Just let me know if something is going to happen.)

(School)

(Changed my mind, but I'm going to use an AI to help structure things to take some of the load off of myself. We'll see how it goes.)

The young ponies were curious about Cherish, not having seen another pony their size before. Teal took the lead, "Well, I'm Teal, that is Toupé and Elef over there." They each waved from their desks as she introduced them.

Gypsum smiled as well when Cherish entered and introduced herself, "It's good to see that you're willing to introduce yourself. Why don't you take a seat while we wait a few more minutes for the rest of the students."

It would only be another minute before the last two students, a pair of thestrals who appeared to be siblings, entered the room. The younger one was a filly who seemed at least hopeful to be there, if not very shy, while the older one was a colt almost Ardee's age who looked like he'd rather be anywhere else. He did nod at Elef though before silently moving to the back of the room. His sister though moved to sit in the middle row next to Toupé unless Cherish took that seat. Otherwise sitting in the front next to Teal and in front of Elef. She wouldn't introduce herself, but if asked she would say her name was Lilac.

Once everyone was seated Gypsum stood up, "Good morning everyone! Today won't be a very long day as we just want to get you all used to the classroom setting before be get into things too far. You all should remember when I came to visit you last week, but in case you forgot my name is Gypsum. Now, by a show of paws, err, hooves," she giggled to herself, "Show of hooves, who has been in school before?"

The young ponies (Which is how I'll refer to Teal, Toupé, and Elef, collectively) would keep their hooves down, as would Lilac, but the older thestral colt in the back would roll his eyes and raise his hoof.

(I'll give Cherish the chance to react to the other two students and the question before continuing.)

@Illiad Easle

(Ardee)

Going to the theater, she had showed up between shows, where there were preparations going for the next act. A half dozen changelings fluttered about, setting up various stage props, making this appear to be a theater production, rather than magic tricks, for instance. It might still be a song though, yet all the sign outside the room would say for the next show, were that it were a performance, of "The Witching Bell". There were some opera scheduled in about an hour and a half after that, then a magic show an hour after, and then further down, a late night performance by Hizu. A few other things too, but it seemed they hadn't updated the list yet, to include everything, with several blank spots prepared. Maybe they just hadn't set up who would be going yet, or all the ones who normally would, were working in there? Hard to say, but the answer would come a few moments later, when a changeling came whistling around, with a bunch of small plagues, and slid them into some of the blank spots, near where the times were put.

Now the performances included a theater production of Fiddler On the Roof, a comedy performance by someone called Fuzzle, a thing described as a *Lightshow Performa, in B Minor*, and smack in the middle, Hive Cheshire's all changeling musical, Out of the Shadows.

"Ah, much better."

The changeling looked like a typical drone, albeit with an odd fascination with rings it seemed. And by that were meant, that they had a ring rattling from 5 different leg holes, spread around the most convenient places on their legs, as well as three that had been pierced into their horn. All in different colors, though simple in design. Likely just what had been around, that wasn't made of fancy, expensive materials.

Said changeling would speak with a slightly feminine voice, but did not show any outward signs, of leaning towards either male, nor female. And as they would turn, and take notice of their company, they'd grin towards Ardee, showing off their smile, which had a lack of fangs. Or rather, the fangs appeared to have been grinded down, to the same height and flatness, as an equines normal teeth. Their eyes were magenta, as were the coloration on their belly.

"Oh hey there. Curious about the shows, huh? Can't blame you. There's so much to go and see now, after they rattled the old theater up again.

I'm personally looking forward to the musical. I've heard it was the star project, of Queen Cheshire, before the war. Not sure if its as good, without her, but we're many who're still curious.

What're you looking forward to?"

==========================================================

(Void)

For the time being, Void would simply enjoy playing with the foals, and give them her undivided attention. The more active they were, until they needed a nap, and the more love and attention they got, the less they'd probably miss their family for the time being. At least, that were her hope. but it were so hard to tell. She didn't have much experience with small foals before. No time like to present to learn though, right? She had some information, from seeing how the little rascals were cared for normally. That'd be a start.

She had been about to say something, when the teacher cut them off, and asked them to go to their seats for the time being, to wait for the others.

"Maybe we can talk more later."

Cherish would smile at them, then wander towards a desk at the front. She didn't pick the one she usually sat at, as it would appear she had been beaten to it, but she were not fuzzed. She didn't really think there were much sense in claiming one as your own, and she didn't want to get into an argument with others, so if someone else had gone and used her regular seat, she'd just move to a nearby table. Made that she always switched around in school, back in Equestria, but it didn't have much of an issue. Only for those who tried to prank her, by putting stuff in her drawer a few times. Pretty often, it ended up affecting someone else instead.

Cherish would rise up a hoof immediately. She had gone to school in Equestria, like normal foals had, before the crisis came and... And...

A pale glance would momentarily go over her face, although brief, as she tried to push it away. Her pulse would still rise though. Bad memories got her sometimes close to having a slight panic attack, but it had gotten better, and it helped being around others. It were when she were alone with her thoughts, that it were worse. Especially if there were no distractions.

As for the visit, Gypsum's visit had been a simple affair. Her adoptive mother had taken the reigns, talked directly and clearly, with both Gypsum and Cherish about this, and the deal had been set up within ten minutes. It could have taken longer, but Sooth Sayer, as the therapist were called, had an appointment, and thus, had only a limited amount of time to work with, setting things up. And they both agreed really, that it would be good for her to get into school like this again. It helped her getting back into a normal routine, as well as give her the opportunity to make more friends, and thus, have more to do, when Sooth needed to work. Less alone time with her thoughts as well, which were something that continued to worry Sooth.
