Sorry, going to have to disallow this also. The specific way to make Bolt version of Magitek has to be a state secret unless you're a member of the court. Knock offs wouldn't be allowed.

Black market imports?

Hey now. Who's disallowing what? Last I checked I'm the GM. I can take your objection into consideration however its ultimately my call.

@nx9100 let me look at it and I'll give my thoughts

Personally, I would have it as Ponyville being an abandoned, ruined town.  That way, when the Mane Team from Prime Universe show up, they have somewhere to start out at that is drastically different.

Manehattan should exist, but a more run-down and crime ridden, like Gotham City.  I would have it as a city that, while under Unicorn Empire control, is populated with a mix of species, perhaps the only place where they live together, though still separated by class.  The Unicorns live in the towers in spender, the Earth ponies in the slums and working the labor, while the few pegasus ponies are somewhere in the middle.  Being on the coast on the Empire's edge is what gives it this mixup.  Would also allow a point where characters from both sides could potentially encounter each other.  If you don't want Manehatten like this, let me know so I can update my OC's bio.

Name: Ennex

Gender: stallion

Race: Earth Pony

National Affiliation: Empire of Midnight

Personality: Intelligent.  Cunning.  Mischievous. Arrogant.  Smooth.  Cultured.                 Evil.

Flaws and quirks: Likes to be in control of everypony around him. Enjoys plotting schemes and wants you to know it was him who outsmarted you.  Doesn't like to get his own hooves dirty, but will when necessary.  He usually acts all kind and friendly in public, to maintain appearances.  Enjoys both classical music, as well as more, modern flavors from a certain DJ....

Biggest flaw is his own ego and arrogance.  Believes his intelligence is unmatched, and that he has planned for everything.

Biggest weakness, and only truly good part of him, is his love for his brother, the only pony he will never harm.  Goes out of his way to take care of his brother and keep him safe.  (this could be exploited)

Specialties/talents: His biggest strength is his intelligence.  Is skilled at manipulation and controlling others.  Always has plans within plans within plans......

Wears magic glasses that allows him to 'see' the darkness in a pony, made from illegally-obtained Magitek.

Bio: Ennex was born in the Republic of Everfree to a poor family.  His father was an earth pony that worked in a steam plant, while his mother was a unicorn that fled from the Empire.  Through some twist of his mother's magic, he and his brother ended up as two sides of a split personality: his brother the kind and lovable side, he the more twisted and darker side.  After loosing his parents to an accident, he struck off on his own, not satisfied with a simple life underground.  He became a smuggler between the Republic and the Empire, and eventually formed a large criminal organization, specializing in black market goods and stolen Magitek and zebra artifacts.  Rumor has it he even has plans for Equus itself....

A few thoughts.

Overall I really like the concept, a black market guy that's underground trading between Everfree and Midnight. I would like to add some thoughts to it.

Pregiduce: Being a citizen of Midnight, he would be living among predominantly Unicorns. He would be severely looked down upon and harrassed, constantly looked upon as some Everfree spy who is up to no good. The fact that he could get into such a vicarious position as a black market hustler would be a feat in intelligence indeed. Unicorns would mostly think Earth ponies are dumb and inferior, so your character could use to his advantage. So the pregiduce he would get would both be a big disadvantage as well as part of how he operates.

I would even change it so that he grew up in Midnights Empire, which is why hes down to funnel black market goods to Everfree, cause f:mellow:ck those racist unicorns!

Earth Pony enginuity: Earth ponies in the show proper as well as in this verse are adept at creating tech in their own right, I could see a blending of the Druidic Steampunk tech of Everfree and the Magitek of Midnight being an underground venture.

The Eye of Midnight is watching: while your character might THINK hes getting away with what hes doing, in truth he'd probably be monitored on to see if there was anything useful to be gained. And if hes euntrapenuerial enough and enough of a turncoat, he could even use that to his advantage.

Questions: given how pregiduce and second class he would be under the Empire (assuming you go that route) HOW would he get in a position that he could funnel magitek?

Name: Kronos Kristiallton (Yes, that’s his actual last name)

Gender: Male/Stallion

Race: Earth Pony

National Affiliation: Republic of Everfree

Personality: Headstrong, valiant, courageous, chivalrous

Flaws and quirks: One thing about Kronos that isnt immediately apparent to orhers until he’s set off is that he has a case of dissociative identity disorder and switches between personailites randomly from time to time. He’s had this problem at a young age since he replaced a section of his brain with machinery. He has gotten batter at controlling it, but problems flare up every now and then. The list of his personalities from docile to dangerous are as follows: Gabriel the Archangel of Justice, Alejandro the Guardian of the Meek, Kronos the Revenant, Kaiser the Dominion of War, and Krux the Beast

Specialties/talents: Kronos is a very skilled mechhanical craftspony, wielding proof of his skill on his body (ie his computerized head segment, his limbs). He’s also a very skilled fighter in close quaters combat and long range combat. With his enhaced scanning technology and sharply heightened neural processing power, he can reverse engineer any form of technology of any level in a matter of minutes and improve upon it; however, his attpemts at imporving dont always go as planned, as mentioned before while his body is proof of his mastery of technology, it’s also proof of some mistakes with technology he’s made in the past, in other words, he hasnt exatcly had a perfect track record with technology, but he’s still one of the best at it.

Bio: Kronos comes from a kingdom far from Equestria’s borders which was once its ally. It was a military empire known as Ragnarok (think of it as Ragnarok is to Equestria the same as Sparta is to Greece). He is of the Kristiallton family, which is the highest standing family in his nation. While outsiders would consider him royalty, Ragnarok technically doesnt have a monarchy, but rather a stratocracy (i literally had to look this up :D) in which the most powerful soldiers are in power. In this case, Kronos’ family, the Kristialltons, are one of the most powerful families and are the head of Ragnarok’s most powerful clan, the Reavers, which is a clan of many families of Ragnarok that are distinguished by their outstanding service of the military and their significant contributions to many key battles in Ragnarok’s history. In the case of Kronos’s family, his great great great grandmother, Jezebel Krause, was one if the greatest Valkyries of Ragnarok’s history, being involved in over 3,500 battles and skirmishes as a powerful inspirational leader and battlefield medic. Her outstanding service to Ragnarok granted her a place in the Reaver clan and she eventually became the Grand Matriarch of the Reaver house. The current leader of the Reaver house is Kronos’s father, Grand Patriarch Ulysses. Kronos intends to live up to his father’s mantle as a great military leader and intends to be the one who reforges his country’s relationship with Equestria.

@Buck Testa, actually, when I updated his bio, forgot to change his affiliation to Everfree, lol.  Take the following part from his bio: "After loosing his parents to an accident, he struck off on his own, not satisfied with a simple life underground.  He became a smuggler between the Republic and the Empire".  Was going to mention in the rp at some point that he has an accomplice in the Empire, my other OC Sakuya.  but figured i'd get to that later.

Heck, let me just re-post the updated bio here....

So far from the sounds of things, each faction kinda operates like the following:

  • Hurricane legion: Representative democratic rule like the Spartans. Capitalist society thanks to the griffons. But all rights must be earned via military service to the state. The right to earn a certain pay, own certain types of property like a home or business, vote in elections or even have freedom of speech must be earned. Wealth and freedom are things to be earned and fought for. Entire adult populace is up for conscription. So right wing, capitalist meritocracy lead by a military junta.
  •  Everfree Republic: Direct social democracy, where populace votes on all matters, but those matters are decided via a council of workers. All profits  and resources go to the state which distributes them among the populace. the state takes care of it's citizens, which helps them focus on work and individual pursuits No ruling class. So Marxist communism mixed with social democracy.
  • Midnight Empire: Technocracy, where positions of power are filled by specialists. Scientists, engineers, economists, design the country from the ground up to be the most efficient and productive. Whole regions are designed to focus on special tasks, the entire country operating as one system. Ponies are assigned roles that best match their skills, interests and intellect to ensure the best productivity. If they fail, they are reassigned to a proper place. All in service of the state and it's qualified leaders. So technocratic fascism?

Also I don't think the dragons should be in the empire. Changelings I get. A ruling queen and subservient drones with specific purposes would compliment the ideas of the unicorns. But Dragons? The value power, wealth and pride. Which makes me think they'd be better in the Legion. Competitive like pegasai, but greedy like the griffons.

Also, I don't think Twi should be out and out evil either. Evil people typically don't craft stable societies. There should be rationale to her actions. Some reason she see's herself as the good mare in all this.

Yup. I sure did. :proud:

@Buck Testahow much of regular Lektra and regular Twilight do you want in forms? Might be useful for anyone else considering canons

The profile page is pretty comprehensive if used verbatim for Lektra, and Twilight is usually hard to quantify unless we just go with the many wonderful profiles written by talented people for EqE and lift things. I guess what in trying to say is we all know Twilight and can look at OC profiles, and it's a bit to much work to pare down either since it's not new characters being made/adapted for this RP? So just please tell me how detailed you'd like to have in the form. Just what's different for this RP? What if it's nothing? I guess I can try to pare down

BTW The Professor is not final. Buck is giving me some notes after work

@Denim&Venomdid you catch where I brought up Luster?:mlp_toldya:

With the Hurricane Legion you've hit the nail on the head. I'm thinking their main export would be weather itself since they have dominion over that. I could see trade deals being arranged around that. I think I need some more fleshing out of their sector tbh

I very much agree with your take on Everfree as well. They are opposed to any semblance of centralized power. They want things to be governed by checks and balances with the peoples will in mind. Now of course political parties and other things muck up the waters, but its definitely power to the people minded.

Even the third I'm not seeing much problem with. It sounds efficient and something that Midnight would be for. It's very much ruled by her and she has absolute authority, however she values everyone and everything being used to their utmost potential, placed where they would fit best.

I see where you are coming from with the dragons, however Midnight had aquired their loyalty through their Dragon Lord. In this timeline, as divergent as it is, still resulted in her acquiring Spikes dragon egg, though through very different means. Spike took over as Dragon Lord and has used the staff to order the Dragons into the fold. I'll get more into that in a bit.

Also waiting on your Evil Twi post so I could adjust mine. It would be a pretty big rewrite, but Lektra would still be very loyal and always looking to for approval and head pats :yay:

So overall doesn't change, just a bit of a motivation shift.

I'm just expressing my sadness that they can't be like, together-together

I’ll try to get my character up by tonight. I was origionally going to have her be a traveller that was trying to just simply get by in the world, possibly joining the Everfree Republic for safety, but that comment about the dragon lord and bloodstone scepter sort of threw that plan out the window.

History of Equus, the chaos, and the Rise of the Empire of Midnight (this is just about the EoM, I'll get into the others later)

With the Windego threat looming, threatening the extinction of pony kind, the ponies in their desperation created for themselves two nightmarish alicorns granted with enough power to send them away. Those Alicorns, the once kind and thoughtful Celestia and Luna, were warped and shifted into Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon. They drove back the Windegoes, however they were chaotic beings in their own right and were almost as bad as the evil they had driven off.

The remaining ponies went into hiding from the two alicorns whom bickered about the sun and moon and caused chaos throughout the land. Those would end up becoming 3 nations, the Republic of Everfree, the Hurricane legion, and Unicornia. Some groups like the Bat ponies and those that couldn't escape from the Alicorns served in the castle of the two sisters, but that chaotic realm was barely a nation.

Discord showed up during this time, and he rather enjoyed the antics of the two sisters, and became a 3rd worker of chaos in the realm for quite some time, keeping the feud between the sisters going with his manipulations. On top of that the Sirens further stoked the conflict, feeding on the negative energy. It was entirely unsafe to leave one of the isolated nations during these dark centuries.

In Unicornia they tried to ignore the utter chaos going on outside their fortifications. They were closed off from the rest of the world, relying entirely on magic and academics to sustain them and keep them sane and safe. It was in this environment that 3 fillies grew up and hatched a plan. The leader of the 3 was named Twilight Sparkle, an accomplished and highly ambitious Unicorn. The other two were named Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer, both top of their class like Twilight and brought in by her charisma. It was during those early days that Twilight had created the crux of her power.

The Oathmaker: A magical device that makes Oaths magically binding and part of their very being. This device would become much more developed and advanced later on, but she had used it to ensure that none of the 3 would betray the other. It seemed like childish and innocent promises at the time, but they were magically binding. At that time they had seen eachother as equals, however as time went on Twilight rose to be the leader.

The three fillies went out on many adventures, crusading into the chaotic beyond. At first as foolhardy attempts at bravery, but eventually at saving the world from the chaos that oppressed them. During that time, Twilight had aquired a dragon egg that had seemed to call to her, the egg that would eventually hatch into Spike.

Over time, the three grew from ambitious fillies to serious and determined mares. Their plans for overthrowing the reign of chaos culminated in several pacts with creatures like the Dragons and Changelings and with Tyrants like Sombra. Twilight with her skillful scheming even got those that would have easily betrayed her to swear binding oaths of fealty, locking their loyalty to her whether they like it or not.

Her magical prowess and her political maneuvering ended up making her become an Alicorn. Though the specifics of how she went on to defeat the nightmarish sisters with her friends and armies isnt clear, it is well known now that she had absorbed the two sisters power into herself and dubbed herself Empress Midnight Sparkle. Discord fled into hiding after that, and the Sirens are missing in action as well.

Her army of Dragons and changelings and with the backing of beings like Sombra, she quickly assimilated Unicornia into her new nation, creating the Empire of Midnight. Though the former Alicorns ruled in chaos and madness, Empress Midnight would value Order above all else. The Oaths of citizenship were enacted, and it was in a very short period of time that the nation stood to be even more formidable than the long standing Everfree and Hurricane nations.

The power structure of Midnight.

Empress Midnight has a council she has advising her. While she is a cool and calculating ruler with many schemes going on at once, she knows when to seek a second opinion.

Sunset and Starlight, her long time comrades and powerful unicorns in their own right. They've been with her from the beginning. Both have two massive contributions to the Empire to their names. Starlight with the invention of the Specialty Mark, an artificial Cutie Mark that embues the citizen with skills and intuitive knowledge towards a given trade. Sunset with her top secret trade and growing takeover of the Human world, which only the council and Midnight are aware of.

Crysalis: Though she would like to betray the ponies, her binding oaths make that Impossible for her to do. She has integrated Changeling magic that can turn off specific varieties of magic into the Empire of Midnight. The changelings have been changed drastically since they discovered they can make their own food source, however Midnight requires them to keep their dark forms for the intimadation factor.

Dragon Lord Spike: This Spike is older looking and more developed than Canon Spike, with roughly the same height as Ember. He is intensely loyal to Midnight and through her has brought a new age of civilization to the once nomadic Dragons. They're paid handsomely for their hoards and they are some of Midnights best ground and air troops that aren't mechanical.

Sombra: He's bringing an experience with magic that few have to the table. A few of the advancements in Magitek are done with knowledge that Sombra has. Midnight is also intensely interested in learning how to harness the dark army of the Umbrum, in case the Windego reveal themselves again. Like Crysalis, he is bound by Oaths.

The Specialty Marks: Not limited to ponies, these artificial Marks are the brainchild of Starlight Glimmer and are one of the Empires secret weapons. In order to gain a specialty mark, Oaths are made to serve the empire, and in exchange Artificially implanted talents and skillsets are granted to the citizens. The Mark is most effective on citizens whom were already proficient in the skill, turning them into masters of the craft. This is part of how technology has advanced so rapidly under Midnight. There are levels of specialty Mark's for higher ranking individuals, and are seen as a sign of their place in the Empire.

Oaths: Midnights nation is built upon Oaths. Magically binding oaths that dictate behavior to their very core. While no one in Midnight is strictly required to Oath, the life of a citizen who doesn't is almost certainly going to end in poverty and homelessness. Oaths of employment, oaths of Trade, Oaths of office, they come in various tiers with stricter and less ambiguous wording the closer they get to Midnight. Criminals are not imprisoned but rather are forced into highly strict oaths that puts them in indentured servitude to the Empire. With this, Midnight is one of the least crime ridden nations in the world, as they do not have a revolving door of criminals in a penal system. In the Empire, an Oath is worth a lot of money, and it is not to be taken lightly, cause it will be binding, unless there is an agreed upon expiration date or clause.

Ok. This is what I have at the moment. Feel free to notify me of any changes that need to be made. Granted, most of what I have is taken directly from the source material in terms of her abilities, but you never know with these sorts of things. Also, why am I getting a very strong Man in the High Castle feel from this?

Name: Gale

Gender: Female

Race: Dragon

Age:20

National Affiliation: Undecided

Personality: Observant, Intelligent, Caring, Introverted, Stubborn at times, Not shy to fighting when it's needed, Independent, Curious about the world around her

Flaws and quirks: Instead of consuming gemstone like most other dragons, Gale's diet mostly consists of whatever meat that she can find. She does prefer the flavor and texture of certain fish, though. As a result of her lack of communication with any of the sentient species of Equus, she is also all but mute, communicating in animalistic noises most associated with her kind and a few others. There is also a major tell for when she is about to attack from the skies and/or with the full, explosive power of her fire. When you hear a high pitched screech that sounds like that of a banshee's wail, one would do good to hit the ground.

Specialties/talents: In short, Gale is rather versatile when it comes to her abilities. Her top recorded flight speed is breaks at an even seventy meters per second in a dive, and her main use of fire takes the form of a shaped charge fueled by a combination of oxygen and acetylene. She can manipulate its strength to some degree, though both allow her to perform what some might refer to as 'boom and zoom' tactics, using her superior speed to enter and exit combat in an instant while her explosive fire deals considerable damage to whatever it hits. Even for a dragoness of her size, Gale is also capable of fighting on the ground with some considerable strength and stamina, though she won't last long if her opponent is more experienced than her.  Due to the coloration of her scales, she is a naturally born master of stealth, being able to blend into the darkness of the night, among other things. Her senses of hearing and smell are also enhanced, allowing her to use a form of echolocation and track a scent from a moderate distance.

Bio: Gale's story is one that could be easily summarized as her answering to the call of the wild that so many of her kind have ignored for the civilization that Midnight and their dragon lord have offered them. To be fair, though, this was not always the case. For you see, while she has no current affiliation to one of the three factions vying for control of Equus or her resources, the dragoness was not born in the untamed wilderness. No, her egg hatched when it was within the borders of Midnight's empire, specifically with a relatively well off family of dragons that had only taken a few oaths in the past in order to live a life of relative luxury. After all, her father had once served in the military while her mother was a trained medic. Thankfully, none of them pertained to what might become of their children, should they have any, or Gale's life might have been drastically different.

Now, you might be thinking why someone from such a background might leave the safety of their home, and the answer is quite simple. While many had come to accept the role oaths play in the empire Midnight had set up, the fact that what was essentially a Faustian bargain even existed scared her. Sure, it wasn't exactly required unless you wanted a good life, but what if someone were to trick another into taking an oath that gave the second party the short end of the stick? After all, that was how Midnight rose to power, albeit a bit more fairer than most might have been, but it could still be done.

Along with this, Gale was naturally curious about the world outside of her technologically advanced home, and would often fly as high as her wings could carry her in the darkness of night and would often admire the beauty of the natural world that laid beyond. It was during one of these flights that she had made up her mind. Gale would leave her home in order to protect her freedom after her family had been offered a marriage contract from another that was somewhat better off. Accepting the deal would have stripped her of anything that had made her who she was once it was approved, but there was no way that she could outright decline without bringing shame to her parents. In all honesty, it was the best choice that she had at the time, and while her parents might worry, they would more than likely be fine.

That decision had been made when Gale was around the age of twelve, and the next eight years of her life would be the hardest. Cut off from the gemstones that the dragons of her home would eat, the dragoness adapted by hunting for fish and whatever prey was smaller than her.  Whatever shelter she finds comfort in normally consists of uninhabited caves or hidden coves, though she doesn't exactly stick to one place for more than a day or two, only taking flight in the dead of night. As for what she does during the day, that is spent either practicing her control over her volatile flame, hunting, or sleeping. The only reason that she has yet to join the Everfree Republic is the mere fact that she does not want to get involved in their potential conflict with the other two factions.

In all honesty, Gale isn't the largest dragon in terms of size. She is around seven and a half meters in length with a wingspan of fourteen meters. Along with this, she weighs eight hundred kilograms, even if most of it is muscle.

National Affiliation: Undecided

Personality: Observant, Intelligent, Caring, Introverted, Stubborn at times, Not shy to fighting when it's needed, Independent

Flaws and quirks:

Specialties/talents: In short, Gale is rather versatile when it comes to her abilities. Her top recorded flight speed is breaks at an even seventy meters per second in a dive, and her fire takes the form of a shaped charge fueled by a combination of oxygen and acetylene. Both allow her to perform what some might refer to as 'boom and zoom' tactics, using speed to enter and exit combat in an instant while her explosive fire deals considerable damage to whatever it hits. Even for a dragoness of her size, Gale is also capable of fighting on the ground with some considerable strength and stamina, though she won't last long if her opponent is more experienced than her given the fact that she has no set style.  Due to the coloration of her scales, she is a natural borne master of stealth, being able to blend into the darkness of the night, among other things. Her senses of hearing and smell are also enhanced, allowing her to use a form of echolocation and track a scent from a moderate distance.

Bio: Major WIP

Just off of a quick glance I'm going to need some flaws and quirks. What is something interesting about the character you wouldn't expect? Exploring those would help flesh the character out. Of course you said this was a work in progress so that makes sense why that isnt filled out.

Now, a nomadic dragon in this scenario would be interesting. Midnight has the lion share under her sway but what if some escaped notice? Why would the Dragon who did not seek out the Republic of Everfree? How did this dragon escape? Those would be good questions to answer for the bio, and could inform the flaws and quirks angle.

@Buck Testa, amazing work on the Empire's history!  You've really put a great deal of thought into this!  Honestly, it would make for a great fanfic by itself!  Well done!

Btw, did you get a chance to review my character's updated bio?  And if you can think of any way he could somehow be working for some evil and/or dark plot, please let me know!  :sneer:

I would definitely look into the Oaths thing. While I had been holding that tidbit back, it's the primary reason I said it would be hard to run a Blackmarket with anything to do with The Empire. Finding people with the access to the Magitek who ALSO arent Oathed to not steal them is a tall order.

To give you an idea: High level White Collar crime and tax evasion is practically doesnt exist in The Empire. Why? Cause in order to get to that level you'd have given oaths that would literally prevent you from withholding taxes. Political corruption in the sense of self serving beurocrats are also almost nonexistent. Midnight values her Order, and crime is disorder, disorganization, not part of the plan. So she will make sure that everything works the way it's supposed too.

So for an Earth Pony from outside Midnights boarders to be able to make a Black Market smuggling ring: That would have to take some true ingenuity and intellectual ability to pull it off. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I was thinking that the black market ring would focus on more....common artifacts and items.  Zebra potions, for example.  Getting a hold of Magitek items would be a much harder task, one so difficult that it could prove a major plot point......

Thanks for the vote of confidence!  You set up a nice challenge for me that I look forward to with great excitement!

@Buck Testa

Skimmed for now, still reading.

Can I call Chrysalis? Well discuss in PM if I can integrate what we've already talked about, and how?

Is it OK Lektra needs no oaths? She's just fanatically loyal? Was it necessary anyway you think?

Well let me put it like this: Oaths have been a part of Midnights life since she was a filly. Her power can be attributed in large part to oaths. I've said that Oaths get less ambiguous and more strict as they get closer to Midnight. Oath taking is an intrinsic part of the empire and moving up the ranks requires oaths.

It would be severely suspect if she HADNT taken oaths yet is that close to the Empress.

@Buck Testa

Just to ensure that I am not downplaying the difficulty in such an act, how easy would it be for someone to escape Midnight's faction? I figured that it'd be the hardest out of the three due to the overall lack of freedom, but I'm kind of torn between having Gale being born in a technologically advanced civilization and in the wild. Now that I think about it, where do the dragons live? I assume that they'd have the same territories as in canon, correct?
