Responding to stimuli is a necessary attribute of any form of life, yes plants are a form of life and thus they are capable of this. It's simply an evolutionary and survival necessity to react and adapt to your surroundings, but in bacteria and plants for example, awareness on terms we're familiar with and feelings of pain don't exist. Rather, it would be more like: "that's not good, avoid that" communicated by cells and biological necessity, rather than feeling it and saying "ouch" Edited April 11, 2019 by Olly We have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen more than we say. Not necessarily. After all, some humans don't feel pain and they still react to stimuli. Also, the mere fact that plants have neither a brain, central nervous system or nociceptors speaks a strong possibility that they don't in fact feel pain.
