Do You Like Episode 100 or Episode 200 More?

I haven't even seen 200, but I know it's way better than Slice of Life. I could never understand the fandom obsession with background horses. It was one of things I always thought of as pandering and circlejerking.

Episode #100, in my opinion, was much better than episode #200. I thought that the 200th episode was just silly. I know that was the idea but it was the kind of silly that easily moved over to just being straight up stupid.

I feel that #200 had a better story and it didn’t feel the need to pound cultural references into the faces of the fans. It gave us a heartwarming story with a good balance of background ponies, funny faces, and a very satisfying ending. It was a better constructed story by the voice actors as something that they’ve been wanting to do.

Hmm... My opinion on episode 100 has soured over the years, and I do think episode 200 is a lot of fun, but I think I overall prefer episode 100 more. I feel as if the writers had a lot of fun with it despite all the pandering. Other than how confusing it would be to the target audience and the cynical "the wedding is all everypony will care about" scene from Steven Magnet, it's just such a random and funny episode that I still have good memories of the first time I watched it. Episode 200 is less random but also feels more contrived somehow, and even though there's lots of great jokes, there's also plenty of moments where I could tell it was TRYING to be hilarious but didn't really work for me.

So yeah, despite my issues with episode 100, I think that's the one I enjoyed more.

Episode 100 was epic to me! It finally got me to see that the MLP staff had acknowledged the fans (mainly the Bronies). It took them 5 seasons to do it, but it had one of the most funniest moments in the show (Gummy's existential monologuing).

Episode 200 was..... I forgot what it was about except for some Rarity and Rainbow Dash dress up. Oh, and a Dr Evil Luna with quite odd face (having those Season 9 design changes that I didn't enjoy). Not as good, and I was not a big fan of the voice actors. It didn't feel like they knew everyponies personalities as good as I thought.

Definitely Slice of Life, my dude. I always considered it my most favorite episode from the whole series, I was just so completely blown away by it! There is so much happening there, I couldn't even talk anymore afterwards!!! It was just such an explosion of emotions! I could reference every part of it and it would be amazing! :pinkie: :pinkie: :pinkie: Ahahahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!

Oh no, please don’t be mad at me for this. :( I don’t like Slice of Life at all and I consider it to be by far the most overrated episode of the entire series. The very first time I ever walked away from an episode thinking ‘I don’t think I liked it.’ For me, there’s kind of a selfish reason why. I just hate it when the Mane Six get shoved aside, something that became an even bigger problem later on.

I guess I just never understood the background Pony love. :secret: I like them a lot too but I’ve never liked it when people say they actually prefer them to the leads or want them to get more attention.

So I definitely prefer episode 200, Sparkle’s Seven. One of the better Season Nine episodes for me. :rarity:

No worries, my friend. :) I mean you are the Mane 6 specialist! :eager: So I definitely understand your point of view.
I became a part of the fandom after only 3 or 4 episodes. But I completely avoided all topics related to the episodes. So I was never spoilered and never influenced by other peoples opinions. Plus, since the show came to an end, I was able to watch it all in one go without breaks (took me multiple months though :fluttershy:). And even with all of this in mind, Slice of Life become my favorite episode. I just genuinely enjoyed it and was so happy that Ditzy had a bigger part in it and talked so much more. She is like an Easter Egg character, I'm always happy when I discover this pure angel. But I have to say I didn't know the fandom's idea of Lyra, for this reason I didn't care about her, but Bon Bon. I simply liked that she was revealed to be a Special Agent and I couldn't stop laughing about the whole scene! And Lyra admitted later on, that she ate her oats, hahaha. The scenes were just funny for me, even without my connection to them. I like many characters because of this episode!
DJ Pon-3 always stood out to me with her appearance. So it was nice having more of her. She really is a character who stands out and I always welcome such characters. It is so hilarious when she just nods to Timer Turner and of course the epic music she creates with Octavia. And this scene alone is packed with so many funny, awesome moments, when they drive through Ponyville. And it led to Gummy, who was deeply thinking about life!! The episode made me also love Time Turner, I really love his voice so much as well! The episode really is a chain reaction of hilarious moments and so many (to me) "new" characters! I'm always happy when new characters are part of the show. Coco Pommel, Sassy Saddles, all 3 of the Couture du Future contestants, Photo Finish, Bulk Biceps...everyone! Or Discord, Cozy Glow - I welcome them all, because they offer me always something new. :) Every new character (with a good and outstanding personality) makes the show more colorful. I LOVE variety, my friend! :eager: That's why I don't really see a problem with the last couple of seasons, I still got what I wanted. Actually, the further we go into the show, the more I like it. Besides 2 or more logical flaws I talked about before. :coco: But I still enjoy everything.
Mayor Mare summarized my opinion at the end of Slice of Slice, inter alia she said that everyone matters. Everyone is important and adds something to the world.

And for the same reason...I couldn't just stick to the Mane 6 or a specific character. Like, only watching their episodes or so. :rarity: And since I like almost every character in FiM, I have more options to choose from. Like, I like Marble Pie way more than Fluttershy. She never talks (she was going to, but was stopped :squee:), which makes her more unique, thus more appealing to me. The hair covers one eye (always loved these hair styles in fiction!) and I love the whole Pie family. The family stands more out to me than the Apple family or Fluttershy's family. Or Rainbow Dash. When it comes to characters closer to her type, I prefer her parents by a lot! I just love these characters. Or when it comes to Rarity, and I really like all these designer characters! I prefer the ones who are not...flirty. So the others are just more sympathetic, like Coco and the others I mentioned. Lily Lace also really stands out to me, I love her cute little coughs, her expressions, her way of talking (english too! She's fantastic here! :eager:). I actually wish that my favorite characters would receive more merchandise and stuff. Good thing we have fan art and all that. :coco:

And then we have Pinkie. She is my number 1 out of the Mane 6, because she is the very definition of an outstanding and unique character. And even if I compare them with most other characters, it is still true in her case. So she has no competition at all. The closest I can think of at the moment is Minuette. But they are not the same, I love both characters a ton! Both are great in their own right. But the other Mane 6 don't stick out too much, they have heavy competition. And I'm afraid all of them lost and my favorites are others. I find other characters just nicer and more relatable. In the end, I love them all, so it doesn't matter much. Only when it comes to, like, absolute favorites.

Slice of Life as an episode basically summarizes what I always loved about FiM as a whole: Variety & creativity. The creators definitely gave the Mane 6 enough unique moments across all seasons, so that it didn't become boring for me. It must have been incredibly difficult to pull that off. And the background ponies don't need much of a story in my opinion. They leave it up to fans like us to give them more depth. To make awesome stories about them or art. :)

You are definitely the Mane 6 lover, that's your unique thing, Tom. It's always a joy to read your posts and to see how much you love them. And I'm just more of a background and side character enthusiast. Out of the main ones, I have my favorites with Starlight, Pinkie and my awesome dragon buddy Spike. :kindness:

(Why do I write such long posts? :ButtercupLaugh: But it was fun. <3)
