movies/tv Regarding Horror Movie Endings

Have you noticed that a lot of horror movies end with everyone dying (or alternatively, one of them going insane and betraying everyone, or simply betraying them just to save their own skin) and the monster/demon/ghost/serial killer getting away scott-free? Does anyone find that frustrating?

Not really since all I know that letting the bad guy go scott free is just another excuse to make an sequel. Plus I like tragic ending for the main characters.

That's what makes them horror movies.

I'll throw this in. The only horror movie that actually really scared me was the original "Hellraiser" by Clive Barker. "Pin-head" scared the living hell out of me when I saw it the first time! It effected me to the point of not liking to see anything shaped like a small cube!

Well, I think it might be like that in some cases, if not most cases. I did notice that in a lot of horror movies, there are sad endings or the main character or villain dies or something. Either way, they all satisfy me.

Not really. More like the bad guy seems to be killed off at the end but comes back at the last second for a cheap jump scare.

I meant, why do horror movies always have depressing endings.
