Denim&Venöm 16,270 July 18, 2019 Share July 18, 2019 It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you all that Kyoto Animation or KyoAni, suffered a catastrophic fire earlier today, which claimed the lives of 33 people and inuring 36 others. Police have confirmed that the fire was an act of arson. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-49027178 https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/17/world/asia/japan-fire-animation-studio.html KyoAni is arguably the best anime producer in the industry today, not only for the high quality of shows like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, K-On and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid and movies like A Silent Voice, but also how they pay their employees a salary, rather than on a per frame, piece meal basis like most studios. One of the brightest examples of art and animation, now has to endure such a senseless loss. Some of the most talented writers, animators and artists in the world, have now either died or suffered horrifying injuries. But if we here are known for anything, it's our ability to come together and help. Partner company Sentai filmworks has set up a GoFundMe to help. Please do chip in whatever you can spare. We're all fans of animation here, regardless of the show or what country it came from. Whatever help you can give would be appreciated. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-kyoani-heal

Splashee 28,535 July 18, 2019 Share July 18, 2019 Not good, not cool! Animation is more than just the final product. A lot of assets, and work, even the way you work is defined inside the walls of the studio you are working for. hearing this saddens me greatly
Misty Shadow 6,992 July 19, 2019 Share July 19, 2019 It's insane that someone would do this to a studio that was just trying to make cartoons. My most sincere condolences go out to all the victims of this tragedy.

Dreambiscuit 7,931 August 2, 2019 Share August 2, 2019 This is such a horrible tragedy; a senseless attack on innocent people working to make the world a better place through their exquisite art. Thank you, @Denim&Venom for the Gofundme link. It’s a good way for everyone to help ease the pain from this horrible disaster.
