What would you change about FiM and why?

If you could change one thing (or multiple things) about MLP: FiM, what would you change and why?

For example, I wish Luna had bat wings, and I really wanted to see a Chrysalis redemption arc. What about you?

Give the characters more depth. I know, I know, everyone praises these characters, but they’re based on stereotypes. Instead of giving Fluttershy all the fears, wouldn’t it be more interesting if they gave them to other characters? Like what if Rainbow was shy, coming off as loud, outgoing and confident with her friends, but inside she’s terrified of meeting new ponies. On the contrary, make Fluttershy brave when it comes to risky tasks and performances. Just because someone is shy, doesn’t mean they’re scared of doing every little thing imaginable. It’s not realistic or interesting.

Not having Starlight at all. I don't hate her, but it took so long for me to not hate her that is just seems like her addition was pointless, especially since she was an edgy Mary Sue right from the beginning.

Redeeming at minimum Chrysalis.

Removing Fame and Misfortune from existence as it is one of the worst episodes in anything ever.

Redoing Newbie Dash. Wouldn't be too hard. Just make Rainbow Dash not a total idiot and make the Wonderbolts not total dickbags.

Never having sea ponies. Easily one of the most worthless additions to FiM.

Aaaaaand making Star Tracker an alicorn Prince.

What version is that?

From the leaked scripts(I can't post any links, but I think the original premise should be fine)

Spoiler

"Rainbow Dash runs in to tell the rest of the Mane 6 her HUGE news: the Wonderboltsjust contacted her and she’s no longer on the reserves. Just as Pinkie Pie consoles Dash for being dropped, Rainbow Dash clarifies: she’s a full-fledged Wonderbolt now and has to report for duty immediately. Dash says her goodbyes, and Pinkie Pie winds up being the one who needs consoling.

Dash can barely contain her excitement among the Wonderbolts. This has been her dream for as long as she can remember, and now that it’s come true the normally-cool Dash is anything but cool. The Wonderbolts are used to seeing this when a newbie gets admitted, and since Rainbow Dash is the only newbie right now that’s what the start calling her: Newbie.

Dash soon learns that this is typical initiation stuff with the Wonderbolts. It’s natural for ponies to start out thinking they’re hot stuff, but to be an effective Wonderbolt newbies get stripped of their “specialness” so they can function as members of a cohesive team capable of responding to the needs of any situation at a moment’s notice. This takes some of the bloom off the rose for Rainbow Dash, who’s none too eager to give up her cocky independent-minded ways. For instance, Dash happens to know she’s the only one on the Wonderbolts who can pull off a Sonic Rainboom, and nopony can take that away from her. The leader of the Wonderbolts replies that she most certainly can: if Dash pulls a stunt like that in a Wonderbolt uniform, she’s gone.

On leave, Dash returns to Ponyville to much hoopla. But to everypony’s surprise, Dash is downbeat about her Wonderbolts experience so far. When Dash explains why, the rest of the Mane 6 encourage her to find ways to express her individuality when she’s not on duty with the Wonderbolts, maybe when she’s just hanging out with them. But Dash complains that’s impossible because they’re all pretty much the same personality type: self-assured and competitive like Rainbow Dash. That’s when Dash hits on the “genius plan” of adopting a different persona altogether. She goes back to Cloudsdale and tries on the only personalities she knows: Pinkie Pie’s, Fluttershy’s, Rarity’s, etc. It’s such a total disaster that she finally gives up trying to stand out. The Wonderbolt leader is pleased.

Soon the Wonderbolts are called for their first official function since Dash started: they’re to fly ceremonial formations over Ponyville as the big attraction of an annual celebration. When they get there, Scootaloo is beside herself. She’s Dash’s biggest fan. Dash tamps down Scoot’s enthusiasm, explaining that she’s nopony special, just a garden variety Wonderbolt. But, when the Wonderbolts fly their formations, Dash notices Scoot out of the corner of her eye –cheering from the highest bleacher from which she quickly looses her balance and falls! In a flash, Dash breaks ranks and speedsto save Scoot, inadvertently causing a Sonic Rainboom in the process. Heartbroken, she heads back to seek consolation from her friends for ruining things with the Wonderbolts. But the Wonderbolts come find Dash to tell her that she’s not dismissed at all. The goal has always been “to respond to the needs of a situation at a moment’s notice” and that’s exactly what Dash did. Team unity is secondary to that. They welcome Dash back and she’s elated. They still call her Newbie, but she’s cool with it. Way cool"

Nothing, too much of the show rocks! :kirin:

Alright, alright, you got me, I'm not that cute and innocent. I sincerely don't like undermining other people's work, however, if the show was my work, you bet your ass there'd be more Kirin and more character to all the villains. And of course, clear clarification in the finale that Discord was trying to reform the villains. I will never like the implication, intended or not, that he was just using them. :maud:

Delete the School, delete Starlight, replace S05 with S08, and go from there with the Frenemies arch. Redeem the three villains in a way that would maintain their way of thinking along with their personalities and make them the next Pillars. Make Grogar real. Make Harmony the real bad guy. Make Mane 6 into the next Spirits of Harmony. Also bat ponies.

Moar Skittle bugs!

At least more of Ocellus arc. She has identity issues and no one took that opportunity to explore it or give her enough space to explain how that works with changelings since we saw another one having color identity issues and Ocellus herself was doubting who she really is in the tree of harmony challenges, which is a huge misoportunity.

Also, Discord, they don't know how to make lessons with him or how to work with him overall. I mean they have good bases but then the explanation of why Discord was acting like this or that is completely different from what I expected it to be and doesn't explain or solve anything in the end. Discord is one if my favorites, but good Lord... The main six treat him like his cancer (except Fluttershy and Spike), they only call him when they need him, he doesn't explain clearly his intentions which are seemingly good but the show paints it as really bad and sometimes the writters make him do unacceptable stuff without showing his not an actual asshole.

Twilight. She suffers from main protagonist syndrome and I send my condolences to her. Poor girl. The ocd, anxiety and panic attacks were not part of her in the beginning but then because of everything that started to happen around her, without her consent (I'm looking at you Celestia), she started to get worse in terms of health, and that's not funny. To pressure someone into a situation so bad that she gets panic attacks that become part of her character. Also, that 9 seasons in she still doubts herself (that should be a sign, CELESTIA). It's like a plot necessity when it just feels so forced, like she suddenly becomes a drama queen whenever the plot demands or has sudden amnesia.

Rainbow. Is she actually a jerk who suddenly has sparks of being a decent person?

Make Yakkity Sax's lesson "it's ok if you like to do this as a new hobby BUT LOOK AT POOR FLUTTERSHY, SHE HASN'T SLEPT IN WEEKS, MY CROPS ARE RUINED, THE TOWN IS FULL OF YOUR SHIT!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IS TO HARM OTHERS AND RESPECT BOUNDARIES?! Nor I, nor anyone has to tolerate it if it's an issue for us! you can continue practice your stuff but do it FAR AWAY where you don't harm anyone other than yourself!"...

I would've liked another season---a season that would've needed to be somewhere in the middle---where the main villains are Hydia, Reeka, and Draggle from G-1, and where the majority of the season's episodes have either their main plot or subplot driven by the machinations of those villains; that'd help to drive home that "these are the villains in the MLP world".  We've had villains that begin and end a season before, but they didn't really drive the plots of that many episodes during their seasons.

Plus, Hydia, Reeka, and Draggle had some pretty good dynamics; the daughters were unmotivated, weak, clumsy loser-villains while the mother was a serious villain, albeit not without her comical moments.

I wouldn’t make Grogar Discord because it sounded like a bit of a lazy attempt to stop developing Grogar.

I would also make Twilight less Celestia-looking and get rid of Luster Dawn since she’s a copy of old Twilight basically.

Finally, I’d give the zebras a proper backstory and use those stories in replacement of all three buckyball episodes because we really didn’t need three sports episodes.

If I were to change stuff in the show, it would be quite a bit of stuff from the top of my head:
-Avoid having Spike ultimately getting left out. Be it some crisis or a fun event, let him be included always. Don't let him ultimately end up in the Mane 6's shadows due to not being an element bearer or "chosen one".  I know Spike got included in some stuff but I feel like that kind of got outweighed by all the times he got left out or sidelined and stuff the Mane 6 were in.(season 9 premiere solidifying the feeling I have of no matter what he does, Spike ultimately ends up in the Mane 6's shadows in the end due to not being an element bearer.)
I say have him turn out to be the 7th element later on(and explain about it so it won't feel forced) or at least have some connection to the elements of harmony(I mean, he was practically born basically due to the very thing that caused the Mane 6 to get their Cutie Marks. And how he got his own throne in the Cutie Map room. He should get SOMETHING involved with harmony there). Or at least end up being a wild card, as in being able to substitute any of the girls(like due to he actually shown the traits of the 6 elements at certain points) when using the elements if something happened to any of the girls.

-Have Spike's parents be shown or at least show us how did his egg ended up in Celestia's school. Eggs of sapient beings don't just randomly poof up out of thin air into the hooves of ponies nor can a pony just waltz into the dragonlands and snatch one up. Like even if Spike chooses to not find out about his origins, fate will have it so he finds out if he wants to or not. Like Ember deciding to investigate this when she heard about Spike's egg. Like she is bound by her duty as Dragon Lord to investigate this to see if Spike's egg was given to the ponies willingly or they found the egg in a abandoned nest/parents missing or it was actually stolen.  Spike finding out his origins would led to some character development and maybe even strengthening his bonds with his friends and "family" he has with Twilight in the process.(Like the saying "the truth will set you free" or something. Felt like saying that)

-Add some more lore/mysticalness to the dragons.  When I got into the fandom months ago, I was interested in Spike and the dragons due to their potential. But sadly so far it looks like the dragons are mostly just basically brutes living in a barren land or something.  Closest thing for mystical for them in lore is the Bloodestone Scepter and the Dragon Lord but that's it.
I say give them stuff like they have ancient ruins and like it turns out they were a prosperous race with such power but some tragedy/disaster caused a huge collapse and the dragons ended up living in those barren lands, forgetting about their past glory and all that's left of their past was the Bloodstone Scepter.  Maybe have Spike be connected with all of that somehow.

-Avoid having the royal sisters get smacked with the worf effect so many times. I just get the impression from the show(and some fans) that Celestia and Luna end up getting rendered "useless" and unable to help directly to save the day. It really stings with Luna there for me(especially with what happened to her in the movie. That REALLY stung).
Just have them(or at least Luna) not end up getting "useless"/sidelined/losing their powers/getting subdued/knocked out of commission. Have them directly help(not just holding some villain back for someone to escape), like join in on the final blow on a villain, do more stuff, protect Equestria rather than being unable to(while having to rely on the Mane 6 to get the job done).
Sadly I got the impression from the show that since the sisters lost the ability to use the elements, they are essentially chopped liver now. Like unable to truly protect Equestria anymore and have to rely mostly on the Mane 6 to save the day.
Have the sisters do more to help and not lose badly, do the best they can and work WITH the Mane 6(and Spike included) to help save Equestria more often. Maybe have them go through trials to earn back the ability to use the elements again. Like be able to substitute any of the girls to use the elements. Their cutie marks are on the freaking tree, Luna and Celestia should get something from that while the Mane 6 use the elements now.

-Have Celestia end up becoming Daybreaker rather than that form existing only within a dream and a fear-inducing hallucination spell from Sombra. Like have her snap and be consumed by power that turns her into Daybreaker. Have it come full circle with Luna, with her having to save her sister from that power and save her.  Maybe like Daybreaker was born from Celestia's guilt of what happened to Luna and also grief-induced anger of a herself, at Luna(for the mess she sadly caused) and anger at the citizens of Equestria(for not appreciating Luna as much as her which caused this whole mess).Pretty much consumed by bottled up emotions and stress.   I mean, Celestia strikes to me as someone who is trying to act like a model to people but deep inside, has bottled up so much stress/emotions within due to its looked down upon for princesses to allow emotions and stuff to show off like that(expressing like that or something).  Afterwards Celestia is afraid of her own power but after help from Luna and everyone, she ends up wielding it again but not letting it consume her but will use it to protect Equestria more.

-Have Luna ending up accepting Nightmare Moon as part of her.  Like it turns out Nightmare Moon and her dark powers still exist within Luna, like it turns out the elements can't purge the dark powers from Luna(maybe due to she is MEANT to wield these powers. Destined to) and thus could only lock them away until something cause the seal to break and Luna has to get these powers under control since they can't be purged. Eventually she ends up accepting/embracing Nightmare Moon/those dark powers in order to protect Equestria and those she love to show darkness is not always evil while its up to the creature in question to choose his or her future.
Like some huge crisis causes her having to use these dark powers to save the day.

-Have Chrysalis reform and not.. well what happened to her in the finale.  Its waste of not getting to see what she looks as a reformed changeling.
Like have it so when she falls into madness and stuff but is ultimately saved or.. something. I don't know, I keep imagining her being sympathetic and ultimately saved and developing and such.  I just like her.

-Explore Luna's and Celestia's backstories. Like more on where did they come from and Alicorn lore.  I know theres the Journal Of The Twin Sisters but I haven't read it(and books are prone to getting retconned/non-canon and other stuff.).  Like say they are orphans due to coming from some place where alicorns live(and are a rare race) but nearly got wiped out due to some tragedy. Like some army coming along and attacked them with Luna and Celestia being able to escape(but traumatized badly and trying to forget/hide this. Luna suffering from this the most). Maybe saying Grogar was responsible for such a tragedy somehow.

-Have Spike and Luna interact more in the show and bond.  I don't know exactly why but they seem to click together good, just seems interesting in seeing them together and bonding.

Well, theres what I got so far on what I would add/change in the show.
And along with bias for Spike and Princess Luna there influenced this.
Pretty much a huge post, oof.

Scrap Wonderbolts Academy and Rainbow Falls where the Wonderbolts aren't consistent with future episodes. Do new story plots for RD's development with Wonderbolts.

The Wonderbolt Arc. Minus ones like WA and Glideance, it had some really gigantic hiccups. They were often the antagonists, very unlikeable, and served more as an obstacle for Dash rather than an achievement.

  1. Spitfire and Fleetfoot lied to Soarin and Rainbow Dash and tried to manipulate her into replacing him permanently on their relay team for the Equestria Games. This doesn’t even count the garbage team from Ponyville that Dash joined.
  2. The Wonderbolts were more than ready to expel Rainbow Dash for a crime they didn’t know if she committed, but they presumed guilty before innocence.
  3. Everyone and their grandparents know how broken Newbie Dash is, and not just its offensive moral. Polsky’s original premise is weak and suffers from its central problem as the official releases, but it ain’t Dash torture porn.

The school needed to happen earlier by Season 5 or 6. It just looks bad that Twilight finally decided on what she wanted to do and has to drop it one successful school year later.

Delete school, delete Student six, Grogar isn't some kind of weakling and actually real. Make it 20% darker. Reform Cozy Glow, Tirek and Chrysalis who really cares about them?

Evil Twilight kills Chrysalis and in season finale confronts real Twilight and her friends.

Remove the School of Friendship arc & the Student 6 since, they were both pointless. (In my opinion.)

Turn the rest of the Mane 6 into Alicorn's*.

*You don't *need* this but I thought it would be nice considering they were a big reason why Twilight earned her Alicornhood in the first place.

Make Twilight Sparkle's's new role as "Queenquestria" actually feel like it means something. I don't feel like this new role felt big enough.
