Well, that's mostly what I meant, though let's not forget that Starlight kidnapped and imprisoned the mane six.

If she had authority over education in Equestria, she would have gotten rid of Neighsay a long time ago, surely.

But if she did get rid of Neighsay and anybody else who was against the 'right' way of thinking no discourse over how the country should be properly run occurs. Therefore we get a country which doesn't check itself. But I guess Celestia could do that on her own if she originally realised she could be unjust, but I think the importance of free speech (sort off) is what she is trying to set up here.

I do see your point about Starlight kidnapping the mane six. It is clear that Starlight is evil at that point, however the regime is not the evil part. The regime is fine if they all consent so Equestria isn't against socialism it's against tyrants (on that note the above point sort of proves Celestia is avid to not be a tyrant?)

If Neighsay works for her, then it's not a free speech issue, it's a matter of policy. If he doesn't work for her, she doesn't have absolute power.

I don't wanna assume political positions here, but Equestria has a serious problem of authoritarianism, they try to spread their ideology everywhere and those who do not think the same way as them are seen as wrong.

If this was 2011, all the Brones would come together a praise the show for having the best world order ever made. Then of course later on, we start seeing how Equestria is really made up, and we even start questioning its leadership.

 

I see Equestria as some kind of fairy tale land, but with a trade system similar to the U.S. Kinda odd, but it helps the story writes to make episodes like "The Saddle Row Review" more realistic (easier to write).
