Are Batponies and Pegasi Friends?

Now this question could work with both earth ponies and unicorns, but I would think that it would make the most sense for pegasi. Batponies and pegasi are very similar in certain ways. They both can fly, and I would think they can control the weather too. This would make the two types of ponies pretty close, I would think.

Although, I'm wondering how close. Batponies are usually considered to be pretty isolate from the rest of Equestria, but do you think that they sometimes intermingle with the others, especially pegasi? They of course have their differences, but I could see them getting along. Maybe some batponies live in Cloudsdale, and maybe some pegasi live in Hollow Shades (Or whatever the batpony city is in your head-canon). Maybe the two types of ponies even have families together.

Another question would be, have they always been friends? I would think that the banishment of Luna would cause conflict between the two. Like, the batponies stayed loyal to Princess Luna and the pegasi stayed loyal to Princess Celestia (It would actually make a good fanfic). I'm curious to see what all of you think .

I’m pretty sure bats aren’t native to Equestria, and how isolated it was until the last two seasons, interactions between them is scarce at best. According to a chapter book, Luna’s bat guards are indeed foreign, and another one showed a statue of an Alicorn bat.

Headcannon here: 

Bats and pegasai were allies, even helping them in their struggles against the unicorns and earth ponies. Fliers versus the ground bound. But then the Windegoes came and the the three tribes realized they didn't really hate each other and became friends, leaving the bat ponies out in the cold, waiting to avenge their betrayal. And that moment came when Nightmare Moon promised them eternal night and aided her in the rebellion. But when she was defeated, the bats fled or were forced out and thus isolated themselves until their leader returned. 

So no, I don't think they are friends. They're rivals at best and mortal enemies at worst.

Bat ponies are agents of the underworld. The original nightmares and shadow pones. The reason why you don't see them in Hollow Shades is cause none whose magic illuminates the dark can pass through the well of shadows.

I know too little about bat ponies to assume anything. If I remember, bat pony was a temporary thing that Fluttershy became?

Vampire fruit bat pony. Real bat poneh are the likes of the stallions pulling Luna’s carriage back in season 2, and an alternate timeline of Nightmare Moon victorious in S5 finale sans Dashie (you can tell by the fur on the tip of their ears. Dashie is the only one who lack them)

Gonna be honest I thought they weren't real in the show- or rather a separate species. Like the came to be from a spell- not through natural means. Luna had a temporary spell on her guards to match Nightmare night- hense why we never seen them again in any form until that alternate reality where as Nightmare Moon she might have done it permanently but RD didn't have it like you said meaning it could still be temporary and naturally got out of her system or she was never hit with it to begin with.

 

I really just don't know. The fact that even after Eqestria was expanded on they never show or mentioned it bugged the hell out of me given how we could have had them at the background at least a few more times.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t get along. Friendship is magic and all that. Batponies are just another specie like any other. And I don’t assume the Bat ponies would all be loyal to Luna while the Pegasi remained loyal to Celestia. I’m a Pegasus and my loyalties have always been to Luna (okay, so just ignore the Batpony rank!)

I really liked the idea of Hollow Shades being the primary Equestrian residence for Batponies but Shadow Play and to go show this mysterious location that's been around since the first official map release as being long abandoned. 

I like to envision the world of MLP as being partially based on ours given hat the original official map was based off of North America and we've seen and heard multiple real world cultural references. For reasons I won't go into here, I like to think of Batponies as being made up of the Germanic people's of Europe.

Batponies are placed into a bit of an awkward position for relationships with other species with such a strong connection to Luna/Nightmare Moon. If we view her as a deity, and them her chosen people, then we create this sense of supremacy that gets washed away with her "peaceful". It's possible that 1,000 years woeth of generations were already caught between wanting to destroy Equestria out of revenge or seize for their beloved princess. They're then caught in this balance of not being able to do either so some do what they can to undermine the nation while others work towards preserving it so it can't be taken by anyone else. How are citizens of any background supposed to feel towards a race that thinks this way?

A friendship could eventually grow out of the latter, especially over a long period of time. Pegasi and Batponies would become brothers at arms to protect their home, forming a strong bond, but anyone with brothers also knows that quarrels will be had.

Ultimately it depends on the idividual, but I think Pegasi would generally share a similar though competitive relationship with Batponies, as they do with Griffons, and vice versa, and this would be seen outside of Equestrian habitants as well, more out of a repeat towards fellow fliers.
