How long didja notice the Nightmare Moon pun?

It's not the pun that makes me laugh, it's more like, it took me this long to find it!

But how bout chu? Didja notice it right away, did it take time, or didja just find out now?

Yeah she's a mare of the night whose evil laugh can give foals nightmares and desires an Endless Night. It was so obvious to me from the moment her name was mentioned in the book Twilight was reading before the first time the theme song played

I saw that pun several years before in Castlevania Aria of Sorrow. There's a literal Nightmare in the bestiary. I shit you not.

I didn't notice it until I saw it spelled "NightMare Moon" somewhere. Maybe because it was at the start of the series and I had no idea how many horse puns they would have.

Kind of a happy coincidence. I had always wondered why nightmares were called as such. Turns out "mare" is an old English term for demon.

I did get to have a little fun with the pun though in fanfics. I did something with Rise of the Guardians in Equestria, and Pitch Black summoned forth his nightmare horde (which are literally horses of death) and they instead appeared as humans.

"Pitch, those aren't Nightmares. Those are Nightpeople."

"Umm.... yeeeeah...."

I noticed it because of the line "You're the mare in the moon: Nightmare Moon." I'm not sure how long it would've taken me to realize it if they hadn't said it like that, saying mare, moon, and Nightmare Moon so close together.
