AlicornSpell 121 Share January 22 I personally can't stand the place. They won't let you switch your post history to private on your account, so people can see your post history, and you can't do anything about it. The community is bad there; people on that place are all opinionated, and will try shoving their opinion down your throat.
Awkward Segway 153 Share January 22 It really depends on the subreddit. I mainly use it for browsing memes, so I enjoy it.
 Badges
Pentium100 1,339 Share January 22 I don't really use it much. I think I created account because a couple of topics were insteresting and I wanted to discuss about them. But other than that, I sometimes find reddit threads when searching for something and read them, but I don't usually visit the site. As far as I know, there are subreddits for pretty much everything, but so far I was not very interested in using it instead of some sites that are dedicated to specific topics (like this site). I think the communities on that site can tend to be pretty toxic and drama filled, it's really not worth it for me to even waste my time browsing it
 Badges
Califorum 14,489 Share January 22 Never used it once. Never cared about it. I think it is an over-rated and toxic place.
 Badges

ChB 18,213 Share January 23 I like it. It has a lot of good subreddits, and I learn a lot of interesting information from some people who post there. From my experience, the comments there tend to be more constructive than those of many other mainstream social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. But as others have pointed out, it depends on the subreddit (some of them can be very toxic and one-sided.)
 Badges
Blitzo 1,196 Share January 23 Depends on the subreddit really. Certain ones I’ve gotten helpful information from, others are just toxic. 3
 Badges
Califorum 14,489 Share January 23 I really feel like it should regulate the toxicity.
 Badges
abrony-mouse 761 Share January 23 it's like Twitter but more confusing. also I don't understand its mascot
Cagey 3,343 Share January 23 It has its uses and some subreddits are good, but when I was addicted to it (opening meme subreddits and the homepage whenever I was bored), it messed with my worldview, my opinion of myself, and my opinion of others in a way that harmed my mental health. It has nothing to do with arguments or trolls, but the things people say… all the little things added up. I had to leave the website to return to seeing myself as a person.
 Badges
SparklingSwirls 20,805 Share January 23 Some subreddits are good, some aren't. I liked my local city's subreddit for learning about more things to do around town (well pre-covid days). I also read the ones about my various hobbies/interests from time to time so I can learn more about them and hear other perspectives. Stay far away from any political threads.
 Badges
CloudMistDragon 3,928 Share January 23 I've only ever used the site for the small handful of decent subreddits. Otherwise, I utterly despise it. My little brother tells me he only uses it for meme subreddits and avoids anything political on there and I couldn't understand better why.
 Badges
SuperNESBrony 3,995 Share January 23 Honestly Reddit is bad but I use it anyway.
 Badges

It seems that people don't know how to respect peoples' political opinions anymore in today's world. And it seems that people have to act immature and insult others when discussing politics. People need to act mature and respectful when discussing politics, or else they are going to get less people to listen to them.
Cash_In 16,147 Share January 23 (edited) It depends. Some subreddits are pretty good, but there are definitely ones that are better to stay away from. Edited January 23 by Cash_In
 Badges
AppleButt 5,995 Share January 23 I mean I dunno. I only really use it to to look at funny stuff. Some of the subreddits are complete trash though
 Badges
Harmonic Revelations 8,784 Share January 23 Reddit is alright if you're just using it to look for things related to a specific niche. Though in all honesty my interests in spooky stuff usually have me spending far more time on 4chan since that's where the quality spooks tend to be. I've been a long time lurker on various 4Chan boards and that was in fact how I learned about MLP all the way back in the day when all the boards were being flooded with pony content.
TheGleaner 43 Share January 23 For me it's kinda hit or miss...I'm there for a few things, more rare and expensive machine help, but it seems to be becoming more political/argumentive in non political places or there is someone trying to dig up dirt in your history in every thread or trying to dox you or something. So long story short I've been overwriting/deleting my comments and posts there in an effort to leave...I know I'm screwing myself over and others who will ask similar questions in the future, but when those that try to dox you(for reasons unknown it seems, or I missed why) get damn close...its time to shred everything and leave. If I go back, it will be with throwaways. Its shame in the end, all the information that would have been helpful gone, but it's not the place it was 5 years ago it seems.

TheGleaner 43 Share January 23 Moments ago, AlicornSpell said: How different was it five years ago? Well for one it seemed to be less argumentative, more accepting, less political, more helpful, and (the biggest one for me) no one trying to dox me for whatever petty reason. Oh dont forget the random death threats when you ask for help, I didn't receive them 5 years ago when I started there. Then again, I wasn't super active at first, perhaps someone who signed up 10 years ago got to the same point 5 years ago that I'm getting to now.

Kyoshi 35,714 Share January 23 Reddit is mostly trash. Sure, one can maybe find a good subbreddit with chill people just chatting and sharing stuff about something they like, but most of them are instead giant circlejerks where any and all criticism is crushed and buried by hordes of ravenous fanboys. Gaming ones in particular are hilariously sad and pathetic. You dare criticize anything that isn't also being criticized by the hive mind and you will be downvoted to oblivion. I mostly avoid the site.
 Badges
DixonTheAdversary 1,518 Share January 23 I don't have an account, but sometimes I'll scroll through a subreddit for something I like if I'm bored.
 Badges
